Org List:

This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Keeping on track:

We're just over a month and a half out.

We're rounding the turn, heading into the stretch. Now is the time to
be sure our I's are crossed and our T's are dotted. :)

General registration just opened. Registrations will continue to trickle
in until show time. My best guess is that we're still on track for a
total turnout in the 120-130 range. We sit at 109 as of this time.

We did have a number of people register yesterday just as general
registration opened. Four of them have yet to validate.

For those of you who need to check to see if somebody is actually
registered (Big Sister, roommate, advance activity, etc.) the URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvr.html

... will always give the latest status. Those who show "entered" in the
last "val" column (as opposed to "confirmed") are the ones who have yet
to validate.
. . .

Our next big milestone will be the activity sign-up process, which is
set to start on or around April 1. We set a goal to have all nontrivial
activities planned by March 15, which is less than 2 weeks away.

Although most of the plans for the major activities are all set (thanks
again for making this happen, gang) there are a few which don't have
details, timeslot, or confirmation.

Seriously, if there are things you've been putting off which you will not
be able to do, or just don't feel like doing, now is the time to say so.
It will be much better to say so now and let the group make other plans
than to say so at the last minute. Time to "defecate or abdicate" to use
an old expression. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

Updates on all of these will be appreciated. :)

Those marked with the double asterisk are the ones that will hold up
the activity sign-up process if they are not taken care of.

** Michelle (NV)? Carluccio's? Have you been in contact? I apologize for
nagging, but it's getting time to defecate or abdicate on this one. :)
We really do need to know one way or the other on this one.
. . .

** Mindy, High Tea. Has a location been selected? Has a timeslot been
selected? We need day and timeslot soon, please.
. . .

* Jenni? Will the FSE thing be Monday or Wednesday?
. . .

* Mindy, will there be a charge for the Pity Party this year? Will this
still be at Zingers?
. . .

* SO activities?

Any more SO thoughts or discussion? Going going ... ...
. . .

* Mindy, Nora, Any decision for the Garden Party location?
. . .

Thanks, gang! :)

That's what I thought. I *know* we had people go there.

Hmmmm ... this is one of the first complaints about GB that I've heard
of. Did you let them know that you were not satisfied?

In fact I was thinking of booking a makeover session with Amy there
this year so I could get a first-hand impression of how she does.

Here's chapter and verse from the NRS. Item 2 clearly indicates the
exception to the open container law for limos, and the way I read it,
taxis as well.

+NRS 484.448 Drinking alcoholic beverage while driving motor vehicle
+unlawful; open container of alcoholic beverage; additional penalty for
+violation committed in work zone.

+1. It is unlawful for a person to drink an alcoholic beverage while he
+is driving or in actual physical control of a motor vehicle upon a
+highway.

+2. Except as otherwise provided in this subsection, it is unlawful
+for a person to have an open container of an alcoholic beverage within
+the passenger area of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is upon a
+highway. This subsection does not apply to a motor vehicle which is
+designed, maintained or used primarily for the transportation of
+persons for compensation, or to the living quarters of a house coach or
+house trailer.

The distinct conclusion on the newsfroup was that the producers of the
cable show did not do their homework.

I'll bring the radios as planned. It may be a good idea to exchange
cell phone numbers as we get ready to take off in case the radios are
too noisy or go out of range.

Misc stuph:

>>Ok, is [Bellagio] a "go" for Friday after SG/DH then?

>Umm...I guess so.

Ok, umm, I guess I'll get that on the schedule then. :)
. . .

>>I would say it's intended for those who want to go sunbathing in their
>>preferred mode

>I prefer to sunbathe in the nude. Is that OK?

Actually, there is a nude beach on Lake Mead, but a bit farther up north
from where Diane was planning. Finding this will be an exercise for the
student. :)
. . .

>>Hmmmmm ... Last year I don't think we stopped for any booze

>Was it this year before last? I remember that we stopped on the curb
>at a liquor store in a really bad neighborhood. You stayed in the car,
>and when we came back, some wino had the door open and was trying to
>climb in. Remember that?

That was 2003. Gina wanted more booze and you needed more Galiano [sic]
so we pulled over to this hole-in-the-wall liquor store by the corner of
Main and Bridger. Gina came out with a shopping cart. That is a
neighborhood that creeps me out even with the doors locked and the
windows rolled up, even though up a few blocks to the north or east
it's perfectly safe.

>I pulled him out and you said, "Wait, let me at least get his phone
>number."

Well, you were the one who wanted his phone number so I got it for you.
Too bad it turned out to be a pay phone at the bus station. :)

>>there was stuff left over. I know we didn't even touch the Galiano. :)

>We still have it, on the kitchen counter, and we don't need a night
>light in there because it glows in the dark.

Well, bring it along this year for the Galiano [sic] Challenge.

And, if Margeth comes, I haven't forgotten the Galiano [sic] toast to
the occasion. :)

Agreed. If our people are definitely not wanted, we don't want to give
them our business.

>i could try the sahara i know we use this a lot but it may serve well
>as a venue for the girls who dont like the bigger restauraunts

>they have a very good mexican restaurant which i have used many times
>and i am positive they would make us welcome what do you think

Pacos at the Sahara would be a good choice I'm sure.

>i would like to get this done soon the days are flying by and i dont
>seem to be geeting any were.

There's really not much you have to do. The way Eating Out Night works,
it's really impractical to make a reservation since you won't know how
many will be showing up until they show up. :)

>could you please put me down for golf thanks

You can sign up for golf at activity sign-up time, which will happen on
or around April 1. This will be announced very clearly before it
happens.

>did i see a few weeks ago someone was going to se mama mia if so i
>would like to go if anyone is interested

Michelle (NV) was interested in that, but it's not on the schedule as
an official (if there is such a thing) DLV activity. Of course anybody
who wants to see it can do so just about any time.
