Org List:
This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Checking where we stand:
Taking a look at things from the top down, we seem to be
reasonably on target in our planning process.
Looking at the schedule, we do have a lot of TBAs and TBDs,
so we do need to start solidifying some of the details on
our proposed and in-progress activities.
In particular, we need to have volunteers for the following
items. All we ask of each volunteer is to coordinate or assist
with one DLV activity. There are several that need to be adopted,
most of which are easy ones.
1. Tuesday, May 12:
7:00pm: Eating Out Night (various)
7:00pm: Buffet option (TBA) - ms
I'm not showing a coordinator of record for the buffet option on
Tuesday evening. If somebody did volunteer, please refresh my
memory. If not, this is an "easy" one, and will satisfy the
requirement for voting status. All you really have to do is to
choose a buffet and be there.
We also need at least a couple more Eating Out Night options on
Tuesday. We have Milano's and Buffet on the schedule so far, but
we do need more choices here. Being a EON hostess is very low
maintenance.
. . .
2. After dinner on Tuesday we need some more options.
9:00pm: Activity options (various)
9:00pm: Night At The Movies (TBA) - ms
Jessie has commented on the Discussion Forum about the Movie
Night. Jessie, does this mean you're volunteering to coordinate
this one?
We also need a couple more after-dinner activities this evening.
We'll do a bar crawl, but we should have some others as well.
The don't have to be elaborate at all.
. . .
3. Friday evening dinner.
Friday evening needs to be one of our focus items. We have it
scheduled as a multi-track dining and multi-track after-dinner
evening. So far very little is in stone, and no volunteers are
on record for the evening.
We need volunteers for the following:
7:00pm: Dining options (various)
7:00pm: Upscale option (TBA) - ms
7:00pm: Affordable option (TBA) - ms
7:00pm: Alternative option (TBA) - sv
These options (upscale, affordable, alternative) are just basic
concepts. If you wish to host(ess) something that's upscale and
alternative, yes, it can happen, for example. There's also
nothing that says we can't have two or more affordable or upscale
options.
What we need is for people (yes you) to adopt these and make them
happen.
If you're thinking along the lines that you would like to do one
of these but don't know the area well enough to know restaurants
that would be appropriate, please say so, and the group here
will make all kinds of suggestions.
4. Friday evening after dinner:
9:00pm: Activity options (various)
9:00pm: Dancing option (Krave) - sv
9:00pm: Gaming option (TBA) - ms
9:00pm: Socializing option (TBA) - sv
These are all easy ones. All you have to do is to pick a place and
agree to be there. Even Krave is not set in stone, if you want to
do a dance thing elsewhere, let's get things rolling.
5. Saturday, daytime.
Over the past few years we've had the SBS Social on Saturday
at noon. Since the state of SBS appears to be iffy at this time,
we probably won't have anything co-branded SBS this coming
year.
We could have something similar without the SBS brand, and I
know that Ginger has bounced around a similar idea, but the
timeslot is open as of now.
Other options for Saturday might be shopping, touristy
things, etc.
6. Saturday, evening.
We have a possible new venue for our ending bash, but that
will not set the theme and such. We need to continue the
discussion along that line.
Although we'll eventually have one or more coordinators of
record to plan the details of this thing, the initial
planning and oversight of this is the responsibility of
all of us, myself included and yourself included.
Please see Nora's notes below on this one.
. . . . .
Since we've heard no objections and received no additional
nominations, I would like to declare Lisa the holder of the
vacant seat on the Administrative Committee by acclamation.
The Committee is now full, and we'll be making periodic
reports to the group here.
Congratulations, Lisa! :)
. . . . .
On the subject of hotels ...
Forgive me for "campaigning", but I would like to encourage all
of you who are of voting status to vote YES for all of the
suggested hotels (see below). I think we have a very good mix
and a very good set of choices for DLV 2009.

St Tropez:
Nora writes:
>The St Tropez is under new management.
>Tonight I met with the general manager who recently has begun
>operations and plans to renovate and update the hotel.
>He assured me that the St Tropez would continue and even expand
>it's TG friendly policy and welcomed our continued patronage.
Thanks for the report, and thanks for taking the initiative.
We do appreciate it!
>Plans for the hotel are not only for renovations but construction
>of a restaurant with a seating capacity of 200. The restaurant

>liquor license is also being processed.
>There are also plans, though not firmed up, to reopen the
>Hamburger Mary location.
>Now as for the really important news, the hotel rates for the
>DLV. A room rate of 50 dollars per night was given for the DLV.
>This is quite a reduction from the past few years.
That is great news! Hopefully this will help out those who are
on the brink of being able to afford DLV this coming year due
to the economy.
>When making reservations we are to call 702-369-5400 (main
>number of the hotel) and tell the operator that the room is
>being booked for the Diva Las Vegas or DLV and to mention his
>name (Randy).
I will get this copied over to the hotel information page.
This is, of course, dependent on St. Tropez getting confirmed
as a suggested hotel.
Since the current management supports us, both in what is
said and in the $$$ department, I would further encourage
all to vote YES on St. Tropez as a suggested hotel.
>I would also like to book a full dinner for the DLV at the St
>Tropez possibly for opening or closing night. In addition we can
>possibly use the restaurant for the pre-opening get-together.
>Of course this would depend on the restaurant actually opening
>and being acceptable for us. I will be monitoring the situation
>closely.
Let's hear some comments on this, gang! Do we want a closing
night dinner, perhaps combined with some other function, at
the St. Tropez?
If we're going to do the pre-opening thing at St. Tropez, I
tend to think that it's best that we have the official Welcome
Celebration (the next evening) elsewhere, perhaps at the Blue Ox
again, as I think that worked out quite well.
As for Hamburger Marys, I'm very surprised that nothing has
gone into that location. That's a very busy intersection with
the Hard Rock as the anchor. Just about everything in that
area seems to be doing well.
Comments, gang?

High Tea:
Jamie Renae writes:
>I feel that the English Tea needs to be on Thursday. Hopefully it
>won't interfere with preparation for the Soiled Dove trip. Tea runs
>from 3:00 to 4:00 pm
Ok, I have you on the schedule. Thanks.
I do have some major concerns about the timing, though.
The NSD assembly typically takes place at about 5:00pm. If the
High Tea breaks up at 4, that gives them only one hour (which is
a fleeting moment in "Vegas Time") to go back to their hotels,
change, and get to the NSD assembly point. Very tight!
About the only solution I can see, for those who want to do
both High Tea and NSD, is to wear their High Tea outfit to NSD.
(Or, LOL, wear their NSD outfit to High Tea.) :) :)

Photos and ending activity:

This idea (photos, with backdrop, etc.) has come up in the past
a couple of times, but nothing has ever happened. The last thread
on the topic is in the ORG archives on line, and begins at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/0004.html
If there is a theme to the ending bash, fashion, costume,
even dress-up, this would be all the better.
The big issue is facilities and space. Since we (DLV) do not
have any ongoing presence in any one venue for more than a
few hours, something like this has to be hauled in, set up,
used, torn down, and hauled out within the period of a few
hours.
The way the schedule is developing, there will be two large
activities, one on Monday and the other on Saturday. Neither
will have our total contingent. Some don't arrive for the
first evening, and some tend to bail prior to the weekend.
Some of the venues we use for the larger activities would
have space for a photo backdrop, many will not. For example,
I would not imagine this working at either of our large
gatherings last year just due to space. Bahama Breeze was
much too crowded, and the Blue Ox just lacks the space,
period.
Now ...
(Project Manager's hat on)
Let me speak very freely here.
Please don't take this the wrong way.
Please understand that our primary job is to coordinate the
activities that make up DLV 2009.
We value your initiative and enthusiasm, but we need to
be sure that things like this don't dilute your energy and
availability for activity coordination. If you think you
and Britney can indeed manage this as well as your fair
share of the activity coordination, then all the better,
please run with this ball.
Now (hint!) for a win-win, if you and Britney will volunteer
to help coordinate the ending bash, you could work space for
the photo shoot into the plans. :)
(Project Manager's hat off)
Any comments on this one, gang? I know some of the other TG
events have photo opportunities such as this. Is this
something we want to have included next year?

Hotel vote:
Everyone who is of voting status should receive their hotel
ballot shortly. If you don't get this within the next day,
write in and say so.
Please remember that you are voting YES or NO for EACH of the
hotels on the ballot. Each year we seem to get 1-2 ballots in
which look like the voter made a one-of-many selection.
Final nominated/seconded hotel list appears below.
