Org List:
This is the DLV 2009 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)

Resuming:
Time is creeping up on us, and the holiday season will very soon
commence. This has historically been our slow time, but it's been
a time for brainstorming and planning on a high level.
Planning is continuing as everyone can see below.
However, one item we need to not lose focus on is the planning
of our ending evening. You will see that the schedule for Saturday
evening is blank!
We've had discussion of a big dress-up affair, a costume type
of thing, a general dinner-social thing, and a dinner-show
thing. We need to re-visit these, consider other options if
none of these seem to fit, and get some tentative plans
underway.
. . .
Another thing that happens very shortly about this time of year
is the testing of the on-line registration. I'll soon be asking
the people here to test it out, proofread the screens and the
responses, and sign up, either in a test mode or for real to
help shake down the system.

Administrative Committee:
We have one vacant seat, and one seconded nominee for that
position, Lisa. No response has been received to a call for
additional nominees.
Unless additional nominees are made, or objections are made,
by next Wednesday, one list cycle, I would like to declare
Lisa the holder of the vacant seat by acclamation.
Objections?
Nominations?

Lake Mead Boat Tour:
Diane (AZ) writes:
>If I can get a co-worker, I'd like to see the Boat cruise on Friday
>afternoon - I believe the 2nd cruise is at 2:00
Thanks, Diane.
I am going to mark this down at noon on Friday, since we've found
that posting the assembly time is the best practice. Please let
me know if that time should be adjusted.
Also, please let me know if you want to have a breakfast or lunch
in conjunction with this.
Ladies, Diane would like an assistant on this. Volunteers? This
would be an excellent one for a new volunteer, and would count
toward voting status.

Hotels:
As of this time I would like to close the floor to additional
hotel nominations and go for a vote next week.
The floor is still open for hotel discussion.
We now have five seconded hotels, two of them being
casino-hotels with reasonable rates, two of them being
off-strip nongaming hotels, and one being more upscale.
I think we have a very good selection.

Thanks, Britney. Alexis Park will now appear on the ballot.
>I used St Tropez last year for lodging and it was pretty crusty,
>terrible bathroom lighting. But the place *was* cheap!!!
>($69/night I think).
St. Tropez is not the Ritz, but they have been good to us in
the past. I think we will have a good selection of hotels
this year.
The one hotel which has been nominated but not seconded is the
Sahara, and I would suggest that before anyone seconds it, they
contact the Sahara and verify what their status will be next
May. They are still not accepting reservations after February,
and it's highly unusual for this to occur unless something is
going on.

Shooting Range activity:
Gina writes:
>I'll be happy to coordinate a shooting activity.
>I'm thinking that we should do it early on Friday 9:00 AM or so.
Ok, I've got it down for Friday, 9:00am.
>There are a couple of choices, Desert Lakes range out near
>Bullhead City is probably the best choice, we'd have to reserve
>a range in town otherwise.
I'm assuming you mean Boulder City. Bullhead City is a good
two-hour drive from Las Vegas! :)
>A few of us went to Desert Lakes last year and were received very
>well, Aiko and Kumiko have been there in girl before, but showed
>up in make mode, Michele and I were in appropriate mode! It was
>great.
>I have several weapons I can bring, pistols and rifles, I'll

Thanks Gina. See additional notes below, as we have another
volunteer to help on this.

Shooting:

>going trap or skeet shooting would be more of an activity like
>golf and two rounds of skeet or trap would take less than an hour
>to complete...should be in the $30-$0 price range.?
Thanks, Vanessa.
I would like to ask you to please work with Gina on this
activity. I'm putting you down as a co-coordinator on the
schedule so you'll get credit for activity coordination.
>Let's have some input from attendees on the shooting event.
We've had input from both the organizers here and from the
rank and file, going back to the earlier days of DLV. There
have been multiple suggestions along this line over the
years, but nobody has actually put it on the schedule before.
We had a group go shooting last year, but it was not an
official activity.
I think there will be more than enough demand to make this
work.
