Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Systems items:

Wow, it seems to be once a year about this time. :(

We had a major system failure last night. www.geekbabe.com is running on
backup hardware. It's fully operational, but a bit slow. It should be
back to normal within a week or so.
. . . . .

The survey is now ready to test.

Please do a proof-read and shakedown on the DLV 2006 attendee survey,
which is on line now:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2006/2006survey.html

Please look for typos and errors, but if you think of something we
should ask and do not have on the survey, please send it in now.

Please don't take this "for real" yet, as if something needs to be
added, the results have to be started from scratch.

We do this in a way. We have the "planned to attend" checkbox, which is
to be used for those who signed up but for some reason did not show up.

>Also which of our events have declined or expanded over the past 3

One thing a survey such as this is not very good at is getting any
headcount totals. A more accurate measure would be just to ask Mindy
what the totals have been doing over the past few years.

I wouldn't be too concerned about any one year's decrease in attendance
for any particular activity. Golf has had a consistent following over
the years. In 2005 it was cold, rainy, and yucky, and I think that may
have had something to do with the decreased turnout this year. I don't
see this as indicating a trend.

Thanks, Kate. I do think that most people will respond favorably to
some gentle peer guidance.

I don't have any specific suggestions, other than to remind them that
there have been issues two years in a row.

Speaking very freely, blaming "we are too busy to serve you" on a few
confused bar tabs over an hour after that fact is bovine doodoo!

The staff of a restaurant like that should *NEVER* speak that way to a
customer. If waiters are too busy, management needs to be informed and
the staff shifted a bit to fill in the holes.

We also can help them out, like encouraging our people to do Happy Hour
by the drink, paid at the bar, if that will take some load off their
staff.

Lunch, etc.:

It's up to you as to whether you join the TT. It's a volunteer group
for those who want to get a bit more involved. Your call. :)

I'm assuming this will be a one-shot lunch and not a recurring thing
like Lunch With Ginger. It might be good to plan this for the Sunday
after MCC, as this seemed to work well for this year. Please keep
this in mind as the schedule starts to form again this coming year.

It's entirely your call as to if you want to be part of the TT.

Last year we had quite a few complaints WRT food and service at HM's. I
admit that this year I ate before I came to the SBS Social due to this,
and I'm sure others were skeptical as well.

Hopefully the good reports this year are an omen of things to come.
