This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)

Various ORG items:

Survey responses continue to come in. If anybody here who attended has
not yet taken the survey, please do so at the URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2006/2006survey.html

Photos continue to come in. 8 staging areas are now on line. About 200
or so are in queue to be processed. We expect the NSD photos to be
released shortly.

A number of photos (>HINT<) which are expected have not come in yet. If
you have difficulty sending them in, please ask for assistance.

Call For Volunteers mailing will go out this weekend. The enthusiasm
level was high this year as we know, so I am expecting a very good
response and several new volunteers to be joining our ORG group shortly.

Missing in action:

Yes, I know, one major opportunity for improvement is check-in coverage,
and the result is that we do not have anywhere near an accurate
headcount for DLV 2006.

I would like to ask everybody to look over this list carefully. These
are the ones who should have been present, but were not marked off on
anybody's check-in sheet. If you see anybody on this list who definitely
WAS present, please let me know and I will adjust the list.

Transition Team:

As of this time we have the following on the Transition Team. If anybody
is missing, please let me know. If anybody wants to be on the team,
please send in a note.

Annie
Ginger
Mindy
Aiko
Diane
Amber Michelle
Nora
Yvonne

I envision the Transition Team to be temporary and to be strategic in
nature, concentrating on the organization and direction of DLV. I see
the ORG group as a whole to be the tactical group, those who will plan
and implement DLV 2007 and beyond.

The Transition Team mailings will be starting very shortly. I would
invite those who wish to be involved in the overall direction and scope
of DLV to volunteer.

Survey comments:

Thanks to all who helped shake down the survey. If you did not take
this "for real" since the general survey announcement went out, please
do so, as the test results were discarded.

Various notes and comments:

>Annie (& co.), I think an entry for Did anyone give you constructive
>criticism or did you ask for help from = another sister: Might be
>helpful. (I know the info I received from two sisters WILL keep me from
>making the same mistake).

Thanks, and two questions along this line have been added.
. . .

>In the item about the $$ spent for DLV, the gap between $2,000-5000 may
>be a little too large. Perhaps we should break it down to $2,000-3000,
>3,000-4000, $5,000+. I think most of us spend between $2,000 to $3,000
>for DLV, and very few over $3,000.

What I've tried to do on the dollar questions is to use the classical
1-2-5 quasilogarithmic scale. Respondents are asked to estimate and to
come up with a response in a few seconds. 1-2-5 options will get
responses that are within walking distance of the ballpark, although
they are not terribly precise.

I also hesitate to change this from year to year as it would make it
more difficult to track trends if the scales change.

>My $0.02 worth. :)

Uh, I don't remember $0.02 being an answer. :) :) :)

>I took the survey and hit the send button so I may have screwed up and
>will submit a new one if this one changes.

Please be sure to take it (following the general survey announcement) if
you have not done so.

>I have these two questions regarding the survey:

>*Is it California Dreaming or Dreamin? The survey has "Dreamin."

Probably "Dreaming", I'm sure that spelling was just me trying to be
cute or something. :)

>*On some of the events you have no "Planned to Attend" option. Is this
>deliberate or an omission?

The "Planned to attend" was on those activities which had the sign-up on
the web or some other kind of hoop-jump involved.

>The questions were clear and the form was easy to negotiate.

Thanks, that's what I like to hear. :)

Devil's advocate mode here -- Are we maybe expecting too much when we
have a very large group all being seated, ordering, and being served
within such a short time? From what I understand about the restaurant
business, they depend on the randomness in the arrival of customers
to avoid overloading the wait staff.

At both Bahama Breeze and Suede this year, and previously at Hamburger
Mary's and Milano's, we've seen congestion and "queue drops" when the
whole group is seated within a very short time.
