Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Eating and parking:

Thanks for everybody's input. I think we have a consensus on both items
here.
. . . . .

As a late report, there was the usual flurry of cancellations and
updates and such right after the Large Final Mailing went out. We now
have a reconfirmed headcount of 143, with about 20 more in various
states of limbo.

My best guess is that we'll have a total turnout very close to what we
had last year. Most of our registrants are newcomers this year, and they
typically have a higher no-show rate than returnees. I am hoping all of
the admonitions and the like have weeded out most of the no-shows
already.
. . . . .

Coordinators: You'll probably want to check the final rosters for your
various activities at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvhc.html

It's still being updated hourly, but the only changes you can expect to
see now will be due to cancellations receieved between now and DLV.

The only activities that are in a waiting list state are NSD and Limo.

The number of bodies that you can expect to see will most likely be
between the estimated turnout and the total count. Unless something
totally unexpected happens, these will not be changing much from now
on.

Let's eat:

Wow, this is the clearest consensus I think we've ever had! :)

>>>We have a whole litany of suggestions, and I am going to decline to
>>>select one myself. The only thing we seem to have a consensus on is
>>>that nobody wants Palace Station. :)

>>I suggest definitively Tony Roma's. Any seconds? Sincerely, ANYA in her
>>kitchen here in Las Vegas and getting off her soapbox.

Cheryl writes:

>Tony Romas has something for everyone and is pretty reasonably priced.
>I vote yes.

JB writes:

>I'll second Tony Romas... It meets my criteria (not a buffet) and it's
>a decent place that I haven't been to in years.

Tootsye writes:

>The food at Tony Romas is tastey, but eating baby back ribs in a lady
>like manner is sooooo difficult! <g>

You use tools, like (some of) the people in the Nawth do. :) :) :)

Nora writes:

>I second Tony Roma's. I assume you mean the one on Sahara.

Yes, I'm also assuming the one at 6th and Sahara. That's the one I'm
putting on the schedule. There's also one on Sahara just east of
Decatur, IIRC.

And one lone dissenter comments: :) :) :) :)

>just for the hell of it i suggest the blue ox.. cheep.. friendly and
>lots of room. also very slow on sat night.. they would love the biz

The dissenter is free to identify herself if she wants. :) :) :)

Parking and assembly point:

Nora writes:

>Unless someone comes up with a better suggestion the use of the Sahara
>parking lot for non drivers and everyone meets under the Monorail in a
>caravan seems to me to be the best solution.

I think we have a consensus, with some reservations, of course, I agree
it's not ideal, but I don't think we can do better at the 59th minute of
the 11th hour.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Parking:

Ginger (or is it Aiko?) writes:

>The Sahara parking garage works for me ............ and as I recall
>there is ample space especially before evening.

I've never seen the Sahara parking structures crowded on the weekdays,
which is when our assembly-point activities will be meeting. Even
evenings are not nearly full during the week.

Parking:

Aiko (or is it Ginger?) writes:

>Thank you JB, Nora, and Sarona.

Yes, a big hand! {clap-clap, whistle!} :)

>I agree with Annie about keeping it as close to the original site as
>possible. But, I really don't know where we would be meeting under the
>monorail.

I think Nora's expression "under the Monorail" was kind of a generic
term for anywhere we can find in that area to stage a few vehicles.

>Also, it's gonna be rush hour at the corner of Saraha and Paradise at
>5:30 pm.

Actually, it's gonna be rush hour all over the area at that time.
{ducking, running, hiding} :)

>Is the walkway over Paradise still open?

Yes, it has to be open to get to the Monorail from the Sahara and one
item I could pick up on the web is that there is access to the GM Drive
thing from the Monorail stairs.

>I can just imagine the "motorist eyeballing" that will happen when the
>doves dressed for NSD meet under the monorail. :)

I don't think we can actually park or assemble on Paradise, but I'm
sure the doves will be visible if people look in the right place. :)

Parking:

Jamie writes:

>If the Sahara garage has the free room, even at the top, I would go for
>that. Being close to the monorail is just an added plus. That would
>permit people along the monorail corridor to get to the meeting place
>without driving.

Agreed, and I think we have a good consensus here on doing the best we
can with as close to the original plans as possible.
