Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Milestones and checkpoints:

First of all, thanks to those who voluntered and/or reconfirmed as Big
Sisters. This program is one of our high points and because of it, a
good number of our people have made the giant step from the closet to
the community to the mainstream.

Our validated headcount, as of a few minutes ago, stands at 115, with 4
validations outstanding but all of those early in the cycle. Cooperation
with validation (done mostly for newcomers this year but also for some
returnees for any of several reasons) is good. I think only one had to
be reminded to actually read the thing, and in one case I think somebody
made an attempt to bypass procedure. :) Overall, registration has been
going quite well.

In general, things appear to be going well. However, we're under a
tighter approach this year and we do need to tie up several loose ends
very shortly.

Our next big red letter date is Sunday, March 26. This is when activity
sign-up starts. As of that day, details of all activities which need a
sign-up, headcount or any kind of a hoop jump (such as prepayment) need
to be known. As you can see from the latest Laundry List below, a number
of details need to be added to what we now have on file.

One very important point to note is that additional activities and
details on those already planned can be VERY EASILY added or changed
BEFORE the activity sign-up mailing goes out (on March 26) but it's DAMN
NEAR IMPOSSIBLE if done after activity sign-up begins.

Laundry List:

This list now contains various outstanding items. If your activity is
mentioned, please send in an update. If you don't know as of now, a
response of "I'll let you know later" is much better than no response
at all and would be appreciated.

Our primary focus over the next couple weeks needs to be on settling
the details below.

Also, everybody, please look over the schedule and this list and if you
see anything that is wrong (like an activity listed on the wrong day or
at the wrong time) or anything that is unclear, uncertain, or un-done,
please speak up.
. . . . .

Michelle (NZ)? Lorraine? Your choice for Eating Out Night venue?
. . .

Bowling? Michelle (NV)? Can you please confirm Sams Town (or alternate)
as the venue? We also need price and any hoop-jump that needs to be made
such as prepayment. Deadline for payment?
. . .

Diane? Sunbathing? What time for rendezvous? I'll assume Sahara surface
parking lot unless you say otherwise.
. . .

Also Diane? Lake Mead Cruise? Do you have any details on the discount
and what they need to do if they want to take advantage of it?
. . .

Local Happy Hour opposite Night Of The Soiled Doves on Tuesday?

Any local alternative feature activity on Tuesday?
. . .

Aiko? Do you have a price on Night Of The Soiled Doves III set? Also
rendezvous time? I'll assume Sahara surface parking lot unless you say
otherwise.
. . .

Diane? Time of the Ballroom Dance Instruction? Price? Method of payment?
Will prepayment and/or any hoop jump (other than usual sign-up) be
required? Am I correct to assume that those participating just meet
at Arthur Murray?
. . .

Mindy? Golf? We need to know the price and method of payment. IIRC last
year the golfers needed to phone the course with a CC number. Will that
be the same this year? Also, can you please confirm that it will be
Desert Rose Golf Course again this year. Rendezvous time?
. . .

SBS and Garden Party people? Any news? I know there have been some
various discussions on a Garden Party and a possible alternative SBS
"Social" should that not happen. Anything to report?
. . .

High Tea gang? Jamie? Any news?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Flex, Buck Wild, walking:

Diana (nee Leah) writes:

>Haven't seen Flex mentioned on the schedule,

It's on the schedule for the farewell gathering on Sunday evening. Also
I'm planning on using it for one of the stops on the bar crawl on
Wednesday.

>might be good after Buck Wild seeing as it's so close to Az. Charlies.

Az. Charlie's????? Huh????? Last I heard, Buck Wild was at the Sahara.

Is there something we need to know? Quick check on the Sahara web site
(still) lists it there.

>Also, just want to mention that it is a pretty good hike from the
>Hilton to Glamour Boutique. Might seem close but it's a long walk.

Ginger? Any comments?

I remember walking once from the Hilton (actually from the LVCC thru the
Hilton) over to Tony Roma's, which is about a block from GB and I didn't
think it was that bad. My guess is that it was less than a mile.

Art Tour update:

Sarah writes:

Annie & JoAnn,

>I hope the following covers the Art Tour well enough. Please make
>whatever edits or changes you see fit.
. . .

>We have been reviewing the various exhibits that will be open during
>DLV this year and would love to host a visit to the Guggenheim -
>Hermitage Museum at the Venetian. The museum is cosponsored by two of
>the great art museums in the world and the exhibit is titled "Rubens
>and His Age: Masterpieces from the Hermitage Museum".

>The exhibition centers around Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), whose
>enormous talent and versatility made him one of the preeminent and most
>creative artists of the 17th century. This exhibition features nearly
>fifty masterworks of the Hermitage's collection of Flemish baroque
>paintings and decorative arts. Rubens felt art should closely
>resemble human anatomy and developed his signature portrayal of fleshy,
>robust nudes.

>This isn't for the faint of heart and it's not just for art snobs
>either. Recently an exhibit of Rubens art and sculpture at
>conservative Brigham Young University was subjected to some censorship
>as some of the pieces were just a little too realistic for young minds.
>I don't doubt that if he were painting today, both Dolly Parton and
>Pamela Anderson would be favored models for Rubens.

>We plan to hit the exhibit on Wednesday around 11:00 AM. The cost is
>$19.50 per person, but there may be discounts for seniors or groups.
>We should be able to finish in time to go to a 1:00 lunch with Ginger
>at Harrahs. This is a mainstream venue and dress should be mainstream
>casual or boy mode. Please, we would like to continue our positive
>experience of no formal or club wear for this experience. We welcome
>new attendees and signficant others as well. Those of us who have done
>this in the past find it to be well worth the time it takes to get ready
>at this time of the day!

>There are other museums in Las Vegas we have visited in the past and
>have been warmly received. The Las Vegas Art Museum and Liberace come
>to mind. And there are several other sites that were on our short list
>including the Atomic Testing Museum, the Art Museum at the Bellagio
>and the Gambling Museum at the Tropicana. If anyone is interested in
>going to any of those please let us know and we'll try to link folks
>together for informal visits.

Thanks, Sarah. I've made a few minor edits, and I plan to use this as
the weekly activity highlight this weekend.
