Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

The clock is ticking:

We have just passed the 2 month mark.

Registration just zoomed up to 106 validated, with 3 more, pending
validation, all since Sunday. Plus, there are still some very familiar
names still missing from the roster >>HINT<<! :)

Our mailing list has been well over 600 again for some time now with 1-2
new list joins per day over the last week or so.
. . .

There's a lot happening and I'm aware of quite a few other things going
on in the background which are taking shape quite nicely. If anybody
needs assistance with anything, please post a note here.
. . .

This week I'm asking everybody who is involved with any kind of major
activity to do a final review of the timeslot assigned to that activity,
and speak now if there are any issues. If something's not going to work
in the time assigned to it, or not going to work at all, we need to know
it now, so we can make adjustments.
. . .

Please excuse me if I get a bit pushy over the days and weeks to come,
but we need to turn discussion and chit-chat into solid plans regarding
many items on our schedule.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Shows:

We have had a bit of discussion and a few other suggestions regarding
our shows.

The bottom line is that if we are going to make any changes to our
current line-up of shows, we need to do it now, so we have time to get
schedules adjusted time to let our coordinators do their thing(s).

As of this minute and second, our line-up of shows includes the
following:

Wednesday: George Wallace, part of Mainstream-Alternative night.

I see this one as solid. Late news on this is that there will be an
option to pre-pay for close-up seats, should anybody dare to do so. :)

This will be announced in the next general mailing, which will either
be this coming Sunday or the Sunday after.

I see this one as non-exclusive, meaning the after-dinner timeslot of
Mainstream/Alternative Night is still open for additional shows and
additional activities of all types.
. . .

Thursday: LaCage (Frank Marino) as the pre-Limo show.

There's been some discussion both on line and off line regarding other
shows in lieu of LaCage.

If another show is to be substituted, we need to make plans now, and
we have some constraints we must work within:

1. Time of the show. This must start 8-ish at the very latest. Having a
start time later than 8:00pm or so will spoil the turnout for the Limo
Tour.

2. It needs to be reasonable in price. A three-figure Cirque or major
headliner show means that many of our people will skip it due to the
cost.

3. We need the coordinator resources. Something like LaCage can be
mostly a no-host thing where all we need is somebody there to be a
recognizable face, answer questions, direct traffic, and grease the
penguins. History has shown that for LaCage, it's relatively easy to
pay separately and sit together.

If we're going to substitute another show in place of LaCage, We don't
need to hear sombody say "Why don't we ..." (or worse, "Why don't you
..") or "We could get somebody to ...", we need somebody to utter the
words "I volunteer to coordinate ..." if a substitution is to be made on
the Thursday pre-limo show.

Going once ...

I see the Thursday show and limo timeslots as semi-exclusive, meaning
that if somebody wants to put together a minor alternative, such as a
"Pity Party" or something it's fine, but no competing big guns that
would siphon people from the Show/Limo main activities.
. . .

Saturday: Buck Wild. It's reasonable in price, fresh to our people, and
we have an eager coordinator and a very enthusiastic cast member. I
would like to call this one a done deal. Going three times {gavel
raised}.
. . . . .

Now let's look at the other show suggestions that are currently on the
table:

1. Hairspray. Multiple suggestions.

This starts too late to be a pre-limo show. It's more expensive than the
others above. It also has reserved seats, so if the group wants to sit
together, it will take some busy work.

About the only place I can really see this fitting in this year is as an
option on M-A Night on Wednesday. If it's to happen, "I volunteer to
coordinate ..." needs to be spoken shortly.

See more comments below.
. . .

2. Dragapella.

I see this as a strong candidate for a Wednesday M-A option. From what I
understand, it's not reserved seats, so it could be no-host, meaning all
we need a volunteer for is to be there and collect and apply grease,
assuming the group does not want the nosebleed section. :)

Another timeslot that came up off line was Tuesday, as a local option
against Night Of The Soiled Doves, but I have a feeling that it would
get a better turnout on Wednesday.
. . .

3. Lucky Cheng (Dinner-Show)

Again, I think the best timeslot for this is as an option, both dinner
and after-dinner, on Wednesday.
. . .

The big bottom line on any show additions or changes is that those who
have it as a priority to make these things happen as DLV activities
speak the words "I volunteer to coordinate" very shortly. The clock is
ticking. :)

Yes, Hairspray would fit Wednesday quite easily. With the reserved
seating, if our group wants to sit together, they will have to pay
together, and that most likely means some coordination effort.

Yes, for something like M-A night you could probably just say to meet at
the box office an hour before the show and get whatever is available,
but that's risky, as shows like that do sell out at times, even on the
weekdays.
. . . . .

Anya, if you would be willing to coordinate (you really don't have to
do anything on this one other than be there) a buffet dinner followed
by a Strat Tower tour, it would be appreciated and I'm sure there
will be a number of people joining you. Please let me know.

If the Garden Party people need some front money, yes, it could be
collected in advance during DLV.

Lunch With Ginger update:

Actually, trips like the DV tour usually draw less than half of our
people, so I'm sure there will be at least a modest turnout for the
first day.

/me dcc's ginger a clue ...

(Ms. Scarlet in the bedroom with Col. Mustard.) :)

+Monday, April 17:
+1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara)
+2:00pm Walk Off Your Lunch (to CVS for shopping and back to Sahara)

+Tuesday, April 18:
+1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Sahara)

+Wednesday, April 19:
+1:00pm Lunch With Lori and Ginger (Harrah's)
+2:00pm Walk Off Your Lunch (Fashion Show Mall and then on your own)

+Thursday, April 20:
+1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Hilton)
+2:00pm Walk Off Your Lunch (Serge's Wigs and Outlet, Glamour
+Boutique, and back to Sahara)

+Friday, April 21:
+1:00pm Lunch With Ginger (Bellagio)
+1:00pm Lunch Without Ginger (Sahara)

I see this as working well and I'll get things adjusted on the main
schedule. Tuesday will work out well having shopping in lieu of walking,
and on Friday skipping it, well, cuz it's Friday! :)

Thanks, Ginger. :) Please sanity check the schedule below.

Thanks, Nora. I'll get this on the schedule. :)

One item to consider, and you probably know this. Does this Marie C's
have alcohol? I seem to recall that some Marie C's do and some do not.

Please let me know and if so, I'll add that as a Happy Hour option as
well.

I'm going to promote this one as a moderately safe option. Last year I
was asked several times what the "safest" EON option was and I said it
was most like Milanos, and BOOM that's where everybody showed up and
overwhelmed them even with extra help. (We got about TWICE the expected
turnout.)

>>I think we can safely say that {Buck Wild} will be at worst a
>>moderately entertaining evening. :)

>I saw Buck Wild last month and yes you are right. It is a moderately

Thanks for the report. :) I think it will be a good choice that
everybody can afford and will give us a good turnout. :)

AARGH! I spoke too soon on that one, sorry. LWG will be at the Sahara
Buffet on Tuesday, so unless you tell me otherwise, I'll move the
rendezvous point for shopping (back) to the Sahara Buffet at 2:00pm.

>Car pool co-ordination will be done after the lunch when we see who

Thanks for the updates, Sarona, I'll get these on the list.

Bowling:

Michelle (NV) writes:

>I think bowling will be Monday as i want to participate in the shopping

I'm going to mark this for Monday. The time has passed for thinking. :)
We need to get things solid. Please let us know if you need anything.

A few items we need ...

1. Location? Sams Town again?

2. Price?

3. Maximum numbers?

4. Payment arrangements? Any advance hoop-jumping needed?

Thanks.

>Another show idea is Hairspray which will be opening soon at the Luxor
>if its not already. I dont remember if this has been mentioned already
>or not.

Speak of the devil. :) Yes, and all it takes to make it happen is ... :)
