Org List:

This is the DLV 2006 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

ORG happenings:

This is being sent out early due to the amount of things happening
and the clock continuing to tick.

I think that between now and DLV we need to put the ORG mailings on
an as-needed schedule, as a lot of things have to happen within the
time we have left.

This is a fairly long mailing, sorry about the length, but there are
a lot of things happening. We're a bit behind the power curve this
year, so things may be a bit intense between now and DLV.

Thanks to those who wrote in with suggestions or comments WRT Saturday.
We have a couple suggestions, we just need to do any discussion and
make things solid.

Please accept my apology in advance if I seem pushy or assertive to the
point of being bitchy over the next 8 weeks or so. We need to keep
things moving, and in some cases get things moving.

Our schedule is indeed shaping up, but there are still many holes and
loose ends. I want to start posting a summary schedule in the weekly
mailings shortly.

Although most things are falling together, one of our big jobs now is to
fit suggested activities into timeslots. See note below about the show
timing and scheduling.
. . . . .

To keep everybody in the loop, JoAnn, LeeAnna, and I have begun the
nuts and bolts for this year's Limo Tour.

There will be options for a 6-passenger vehicle for $36, refreshments
included, and for a 4-passenger vehicle for those who want more room,
for $50, also with refreshments included.
. . . . .

I'm penciling in a going-away dinner at the Palace Station buffet on
Sunday evening. Why? Because it's there and it's bad enough that
somebody else will suggest an alternative. :) Don't be shy?

I'm also penciling in a Farewell Get-Together at Flex on Sunday evening.
Why? Because there's already a dot on the map for it. Seriously, I think
we need (dare I say it?) some more bar time this year. See below.
. . . . .

We had a semi-volunteer the other night to host(ess) the traditional
Charles Bar thing if Gina can't do so, so I'm putting this on the
schedule in the traditional timeslot, Charles Bar, with or without Gina,
with or without Charles.
. . . . .

We're now up to 93 validated.

Of particular significance, Ursula, who was our very first overseas
attendee, way back in 1998, will be joining us again for DLV 2006,
with SO attending as well. :)

Shows and Saturday:

We now have a number of good suggestions on the table to fill in some of
our open timeslots, we need to do some fitting of suggestions to these
timeslots, and we need to think of getting these solid in the very near
future.

I'm giving some of my opinions of what would work, but we need some
discussion and feedback WRT what the group (meaning you as representing
them) would like.

Let's go over some of the significant open timeslots we have:

1. Wednesday evening Mainstream/Alternative Night
2. Thursday Pre-Limo show
3. Saturday evening feature activity (show)

The show suggestions we have so far include:

1. George Wallace (see item below)
2. Hairspray (see item below)
3. La Cage (see item below)
4. Buck Wild (see items below)

Here's what I think, and sorry for motormouthing but I would like to
comment on both the timeslots and the suggested shows as to what I
think would fit when.

1. George Wallace (see item below)

As Aiko notes below, I see this as being a good fit as a mainstream
option on Wednesday evening. I agree that this would probably not be a
good one to promote as a feature or single-track activity. This would be
a "high maintenance" one for the organizer, since I'm sure they use the
system where only those who pay together sit together.

2. Hairspray (see item below)

This won't work Wednesday, as the show is dark that night. I see this
working either a the pre-limo show or the feature activity for Saturday.
Again, I'm sure this is "high maintenance", assigned seats, those who
pay together stay together, etc.

3. La Cage (see item below)

I see this one as working well in most any timeslot, including an
"alternative" option for Wednesday evening, the pre-limo show on
Thursday, or the feature activity on Saturday evening. I see this one as
"low maintenance" not really requiring any significant organizing unless
somebody wants to see about group deals. Low(er) cost I see as an
advantage to turnout.

Only disadvantage I can see is that quite a few in our group have seen
this multlple times, and this might mean lower demand. (We need feedback
on this, particularly from those who have seen this already.)

4. Buck Wild (see items below)

I had originally thought of this as an option on the first evening,
but the more I think of it, I think it would work well as the feature
activity some night, and its low(er) cost would help to bring out
our people.

Because of the later start time (9:00pm) I don't see this working well
for a pre-limo show.

My guess is that this is "low maintenance" but I'm not sure if they have
maitre'd seating for sure. I'm also sure that we could get a special
deal thru Steve's people.

Now, pardon my long-windedness, let's look at these from the perspective
of timeslots.

1. Wednesday evening Mainstream/Alternative Night

I think George Wallace is a great fit here (mainstream) and La Cage
would be a good fit (alternative) if we don't use it for Thursday or
Saturday.

2. Thursday Pre-Limo show

I think either Hairspray or La Cage would work here, but I'm leaning
toward suggesting La Cage due to price and organizer overhead.

3. Saturday evening feature activity (show)

The more I think of it, the more I think that Buck Wild is a good choice
here overall. It's fresh for our group, reasonable in cost, and being
invited by Steve will give some comfort to those who might otherwise be
shy. I think our best turnout would go with this one.

Comments, gang?

Laundry List:

We are close to 2 months. Time to defecate or abdicate on many of these.
. . . . .

Garden Party -- going once.
. . .

Ginger? I have Sahara Buffet for Monday, LV Hilton Buffet for Tuesday,
and Bellagio Buffet for Friday for LWG. Any decision on Wednesday or
Thursday?
. . .

Michelle, what day for bowling? Pick a day, tentative if need be.
. . .

One more hostess for Eating Out Night. Volunteers? Crystal? Wanna do
Nathan's again?
. . .

Speaking of Eating Out Night, Lorraine and Michelle? Do you want the
same venues as last year or do you want to choose different ones?
. . .

Dance Night? Going twice! This has been a DLV tradition. All we need for
this one is for somebody to decide on a place (Gipsy? Krave?) and be
there so Kathy Klosetcase doesn't peek in, see her shadow, and run away.
This one can be really low maintenance, gang! You don't really have to
negotiate a discount or take reservations if you don't want to. You just
have to agree to be there.

Saturday Night:

>What do you thing girls???

I know we've had smaller groups go by themselves over the past few
years, but -- you're right, looking over the archives, the last year
we saw it as a group was 2002.

Wow, time flies. 4 years ago.

I think it's a viable option. One other advantage to this is that it's
relatively easy for a group our size to pay separately and sit together.

All we really need to do is to herd everybody together and grea$e the
penguin$ with $ome con$ideration and we can get good $eat$ for the
entire group.

I think this would be a good candidate for either Saturday evening or
a pre-limo Thursday show.

Thanks, Julie.

There was a missed connection last year which caused the turnout to be
bad and the complaints from those who were ready to go.

>Those that do not wish to sun bathe (providing it's not raining) can

Here's what I think you should do.

Don't combine them. Having an earlier departure time would hurt your
turnout, not help it.

I'll go as far as to say that I'll be the volunteer (of last resort) to
lead the boat-only contingent from the rendezvous site to the pier. I've
been wanting to do this one, and having to be there will remove my
excuse! :)

>Or should the events be moved to another day ?

No, Tuesday is just fine unless there's a particular reason to move to
another day. I think you'll find that the early activities will work
better when people are still fresh.

We'll feature this as one of the upcoming activity highlights to get
the interest up.
. . . . .

>F.A. Dance lesson

F.A.? I thought it was A.M. :)

>If a 2nd person is willing/able to co-hostess the Dance lesson I'm all

What I would suggest is this: Just do it, take the ball and run with
it. If you need help, pick a partner, hopefully one who writes in in
response to this and offers to help, but if not, I can get you a list of
those who volunteered for "something social" who aren't doing anything
so far.

Last year, IIRC, we had more volunteeers than we needed for this one.

Pick a day, even tentatively, to hold the place on the calendar and to
generate interest when we post the schedule in the general mailings.
Wednesday afternoon does not seem very intense, or maybe Thursday as
a second track to Golf.
. . . . .

And Diane continues:

>I contact the FA dance studio about a time frame on Wednesday...

Ok, I will put this down for Wednesday afternoon. Please let me know
the exact time when you know.

Also, is this FA or AM? :)

>I concur with two departures but I dont want to P... O.. (again) those

>the Phx area.

Agreed. This year we to need to be sure that our i's are crossed and t's
are dotted in this respect. We need to be sure that each assembly point
will have somebody there who knows what's going on.

>Thanks for volunteering

You're very welcome. :) And thanks for taking these on.

Jamie, what I would suggest is to concurrently look into the details and
contact Mindy and work out the nuts and bolts. We need to move forward
on this if it's to happen.

Please update the group here as to what you find out and what the plans
are.

Please pick a day/time (Sunday afternoon?) if only to hold the space on
the schedule. Thanks.

Bar Crawl:

Labwomba writes:

>>So far the only serious proposal for the prime-time part of Saturday

>Why don't we just make the whole week a bar crawl, like it used to be?

I like bar time. We've eschewed it over the past few years over a few
complaints of too much bar time. Much of that Quality Social Time<tm>
that was spoken of a few years back was indeed bar time.

I think we need a bar crawl at DLV 2006, and I'll go as far as to
volunteer to coordinate one as an "Alternative" option on Wednesday.

Now all we need are a couple mainstream options for that evening.

Remember, though, it wasn't always bar-bar-bar in the early days, we had
shows, then we went to the bar. we had meals, then we went to the bar,
we went shopping, then we went to the bar, we went on side trips, then
we went to the bar ...

Shows and such:

Aiko writes (from a conversation):

>The George Wallace show can be any night, but that might not be a good

>few of us who will want to do the GW thing.

I really think that George Wallace would be a good "Mainstream" option
for mainstream/alternative night on Wednesday. Unfortunately I may end
up leading an alternative bar crawl that night and I would hate to miss
it. :(

We do need one or more mainstream options that evening and I think
George Wallace would be a good fit.
. . .

Edy has (semi)volunteered to do a Buck Wild show, and Steve Daly has
been expressing interest in getting a DLV gang to the show.

However (comma) Buck Wild has only one performance on Thursday at 9:00,
and that might make it a bit late for the Limo Tour after, translated,
poorer sign-up and turnout if we start the LT at 11:00 instead of 9-ish.

Julie has suggested La Cage (last time we saw it as a group was 2002)
for Saturday night, but I'm thinking that might be better for pre-limo
since they have a 7-ish show which would let out 9-ish.

>Just thought of something, yeah scary. :) How about the Buck Wild show
>for the Saturday end to DLV. Or, we could do the BW prior to the LT.
>Just a thought. Steve might give us a discount on tickets, which would
>increase the attendance.

Remember, we did SOM in 2003 as our Big Saturday Show<tm> and it was
well attended. It was on the same scale as BW.

>However, if we do the BW on Saturday, we still have the LT lead-in
>vacant. We might also think of a dinner prior to the LT instead of a
>show.

As I think about the logistics and timing (Hello Amtrak, one ticket, one
way, to the real world please ...) I think a show is a much better
lead-in to limo than dinner. Why? The show gives us a fixed "anchor" in
time. With our dinners, we often have stragglers coming in getting
seated after the others are served. A pre-limo dinner means that some
would have to scarf down quick while others would be standing around ...

With the show, they have to be there at a certain time and we know +/- 5
minutes or so when it will get out.

The more I think about it, the more I think that Buck Wild might work
for Saturday. It's relatively inexpensive ($49-ish) and it's fresh for
our group. Nobody can complain that we've repeated it, ...

The way I'm thinking now, the best fit might be like this:

Wednesday, M/A Night: George Wallace
Thursday, pre-limo: La Cage
Saturday, Big Show<tm>: Buck Wild

Steve (Tiny Bubbles) Daly writes:

>Hey "Peep" lady!

Hi Tiny. :)

>Cant wait for ya all to come back to "Sin City" - ALWAYs a hoot when
>you all are in town!

Ok, here's the story. DLV will run from Monday, April 17 thru Sunday,
April 23. Of course you're welcome to join us for anything on the
schedule.

>Just to let you know - (you probably already heard...) San Remo is
>Gone. HOOTERS is now open and the place is D-I-F-F-E-R-E-N-T!!!!!!

I haven't been there since it changed, but yes, I'm sure it will
be totally different from the old San Remo. :)

>I have been appearing in "BUCK WILD!" at the Sahara for almost 6 months
>now! It's a country western Variety Show with Magic, Juggler, Live
>band, Singers, Dancers and lil' ol' ME! It is topless, and lots of
>"country fun!"

>Showtimes are Mon - Sat - at 9 PM (one show per night)

I sure wish I would have known you were in Buck Wild. I was in LV for
quite a bit of September and October off and on, staying at the Sahara
each time. I remember the placards for Buck Wild and if I knew you were
in it I would have seen it some evening.

>Hope you all consider checking out the show when you are in town!

I think it's safe to say that we will have a group going to Buck
Wild this year, but as of this day, hour, minute and second we don't
know what day, since we're currently in the process of fitting
activities into timeslots on our schedule.

Edy (I believe you're acquainted with her, I am copying her on this and
I'm also copying the DLV organizational group) will be the contact
person for the nuts and bolts of this one. As always, any deals will be
appreciated.

Depending on the circumstances, I can see Buck Wild in 2 places on the
schedule:

1. As an optional activity on Monday, April 17.

2. As our feature evening activity on Saturday, April 22. (more likely.)

>(Of course, let me know when you and 3 others would like to come - I
>can arrange you up to four comps total... not a problem!)

I probably will not be in Las Vegas before DLV, but Edy is planning to
be there in March and plans to check out the show. I'm sure she would
appreciate a comp. :)

Thanks for the updates, and I'm looking forward to seeing you again
this April. :)

Hairspray:

Mardi writes:

>Will Hairspray be in town at the Luxor.

As of this day, hour, minute and second, Luxor's web site still says
"Opening February 2006" for Hairspray, no prices or times given.

Checking further I find a press release showing it opening next week
with preview performances this week.

Anticipated ticket prices are $71 and up, with performances nightly
at 7:00pm and at 10:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, dark Wednesday.

Yes, I think this is a candidate for either our pre-limo show or our
feature activity on Saturday. Thanks.

Check-in:

Mardi writes:

>I will help check people in,

Thanks. That makes 3 total, I think that one is solid. I will be
preparing 3 check-in "kits" with tag holders, Miranda sheets, and a copy
of the tag inserts. Those are dirt cheap, so all check-in hostesses can
have a tag for everybody, including Labwomba and Rastus.

We do want to offer check-in at most of the major activities, in
particular those toward the beginning of the week.

>and also direct them where to go.

Uh ... :)
