Lotsa things happening:

Lots of activity lately. Let's keep it up. :)

One major item on our plate this month is the hotel nominations. So far
only one hotel has been nominated, that being the Sahara. At this time I
would like to also place the Imperial Palace into nomination.

Why? Because it's there.

Any other nominations? Hotel comments?
. . . . .

Lots of show activity. Thanks to everybody who volunteered to coordinate
shows for DLV 2006! Please be thinking of where you think your show will
best fit on our schedule. I've made a few comments below.

Wake or Funeral:

Densie writes:

Not even Doug and Wendy?

Do you have some macaroni and cheese for their diverticulitis?

:)

>Suggestions are fine, but it is a funeral. We're planting a corpse.
>If you want a wake activity, sponsor it and get it on the list.
>Whatever goes, goes.

Let's let Densie take the ball and run with it on this one. I don't
know what it is, exactly, but I'm sure it will be fun. (I somehow
get the feeling that part of this will involve trying to get me to
drink, knowingly or not, a certain icky yellow liquid.) :)

Yes, I know, the first part of funeral is FUN! :)

If you do want a wake, I'm sure that can happen as well.

Shows:

Ginger writes:

>Put me down to investigate the two shows.

Thanks, Ginger. :)

Any comments? Hairspray? Spamalot? Which one? Both?

I think that either one of these would make a great "big show" for
the prelude to the Limo Tour.

Golf:

The Limo Tour is penciled in on Thursday evening, but things may change
between now and then. Plus, it looks like there will be some other
major evening things going on this year.

Thanks, Mindy.

I stopped in the Boardwalk when I was there a couple weeks ago to
see if you were there, but I didn't see you in the pit area.

Remember that Billie Lee is standing by to assist if you need a hand,
and please don't be hesitant to ask for it if you need it. I know we
have others as well who are willing to help you where they can.

Suede:

Nora writes:

>I was at Suede tonight and spoke to the manager about our having a
>dinner there during the DLV.

Thanks for checking into this, Nora. :) I was favorably impressed with
the place a few weeks ago and I agree it would be a good venue to use
for DLV 2006.

>I was told that they would love to have us and would do whatever it
>takes to accommodate us. They can seat, with advance notice, up to
>about 55.

>With that amount of capacity we can either have it scheduled for a full
>DLV night or part of a mixed night with three or four restaurants.

Actually, with a capacity of 55, this would be just about right for one
of our dinners earlier in the week.

IIRC we had 40 or so eat at HM on Sunday and 48 at BB on Monday.

I'm envisioning something like a welcome happy hour at Freezone and then
a dinner at Suede, maybe.

>We have the option of choosing off the menu or he will provide a fixed
>price menu with three or four selections. It would be preferable to
>have the fixed ...

IMAO, details like this should be up to those who do the work of
coordinating the activity. :)

>We also can bring in our own entertainment as long as there are not
>more than two people performing at once.

If we're limited to 55 seating, then I don't think it would work for
something like a Michael Cagle Show. I'm hoping that Steven Davids will
still be there and be available for something like this, since it seats
100 or so. (Update: see below) :(

It would, however, be wise for us to keep this one in the back pocket,
as a show venue, as we have had venues close or change attitude at short
notice before.

>If there are three or more performing on stage at one time then local
>laws require that they supply valet parking.

Hmmmm ... Is this really the case? I'm unaware of any such law in NRS or
Clark County Code. I can think of many cases where this is not done. Any
bar with a band would be covered by this, and most of them don't have
valet parking.

>Please let me know how you feel about this. If you feel that we should
>again do the Bahama Breeze please let me know. However I am still
>disturbed about what I feel was unfair negative feedback from last
>year.

Speaking very freely, I'm gonna do a cut-paste of what I said to some
of the others in another background thread about one venue ...

+I think that (some/much/most) of the bitching about the food was a
+manifestation of the disappointment of other things with last year's
+DLV.

+Most of that bitching I heard was after the fact, as was most I heard
+about Hamburger Marys, Sahara Buffet, Bahama Breeze, Milanos, and
+Carluccio's.

+Yes, there were some (legitimate) issues at all of the food venues, but
+I think that the food was the scapegoat in many cases.

I have no complaints about Bahama Breeze. I think the complaints I heard
were rather minor, such as slow service on checks. IMAO, nothing I heard
precludes the use of Bahama Breeze again.

I think there were a few more legitimate food gripes with Hamburger
Marys and one with Carluccios, but for BB, I did not hear of any that
should take them off of the DLV venue list.

LOL! I like the choice of words. :) :) :)

As you might see, I've taken the liberty of penciling in a NSD III for
Tuesday. Is this when you want to have it?

Of course. :)

Well, after that "insult comic" we saw during Pinkfest, I'm sure this
will be very tame by comparison. :)

Seriously, I think it's a good idea.

Steven David's:

:(

I was kind of afraid that something like this might happen. When I was
there in September, there was not much of a crowd. He gave me the
impression that they were kinda marking time until they got a license
for VP, and that they were hoping that would pick things up.

I'm hoping the closure is temporary.

Thanks for the report, Nora.

I sure hate to see this one go bibi. :(

True, but closures will not be new to us.

>It is a shame. The restaurant was upscale, quality and friendly to us.

I have a feeling that SD's will either be dead and long gone by April or
else open and doing ok with the VP. Critical time to watch will be next
February or March, since that will be when the current lease will
expire, if they opened about when I think they did.

Yes, please do. Also please be thinking of what day this might work on
our schedule.

Hmmmm ... I stayed at the Sahara just a few weeks ago and I sure didn't
see anything about this. I take it the show just opened recently ...

Ah! Here it is! Looking at the Sahara webside they show Little Debbie
and Melvin "Shorty" Rossi as part of the Buck Wild show. I do remember
seeing signs for this when I was out there. If I knew Tiny was in it,
I would have seen it. I have a feeling I know who "Shorty" is too! :)

Yes, I think this would be worth looking into. Thanks.
