Org List:

This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Almost ready:

Just a month and a few days, gang! :)

The pace is picking up and will do so until show time.

Validated headcount of 145, including 26 SO's.

Three Jennifers, three Julies, five (5 - count 'em - 5) Michelles!

Still only one Annie. >>HINT<<

One registrant out of contact. a Jennifer/Jenny from Hawaii, bad e-mail
address. Anybody know her personally?
. . . . .

The big thing for the next week or so is to get everything ready for
activity sign-up which is scheduled to begin April 1.

I would like to ask as many of you as possible to please help test
and shake-down the activity sign-up screen.

Please visit the following URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlv2005hc.cgi?12345-67890

Yes, this will pull up a screen in my name. Please try to sign me up for
anything, everything, nothing.

* Any wrong information.

* Grammatical, typographical, and formatting errors. (Jeez, it's getting
late here on Tuesday and I see more of these each time I look.) :( I
know some dollar amounts do not render properly. I will get that fixed.

* Technical errors, server error messages.

* Missing activities. Activities that should not be there.

If you want, try to make the system malfunction. (Try to execute an
arbitrary Unix command -- if you don't know what that is, don't worry.)

(LOL! Try to execute an arbitrary DOS command. If you can do that, you
get the Geek Of The Year award!) :) :) :)

Please report any difficulty, any unexpected results, or any errors.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Latest Laundry list:

* Michelle (NV), can we please have confirmation that the Bowling and
the Mini Golf are still a "GO" and on track. We haven't heard from you
in some time, please send us an ACK. :)
. . .

* Mindy, day/time on the High Tea. We will need at least day and the
approximate time to get activity sign-up finalized.
. . .

* Leah, do you have confirmation on Carluccio's yet?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Holes in the schedule:

As we get closer to show time, we need to get things firmed up and give some
attention to the weaker parts of our schedule.

We have two obvious "holes" in the schedule as of this time.

1. After dinner for Eating Out Night on Wednesday.

We talked about a big gathering at Zingers, but my concern is that we are
OD-ing on one facility and doing another large activity there might spoil
the turnout on other Zingers-based things.

Another option for a gathering that night that comes to mind immediately
is Goodtimes. That's Eric's Karoke night there. I'm not married to this
idea, however.

One other option would be to see Showgirls Of Magic as {mumble} had
suggested some time ago.

Comments? Suggestions?

2. Saturday morning/afternoon to replace the Garden Party (see note below).

In the past on a few Saturdays I've done a semi-self-guided Strip tour thing
and a couple times it worked out well, once it really did not. I'm willing to
do something like this again, lacking anything else, but I think all would
agree that we need something else more "exciting" in this timeslot.

Mindy, do you want to consider moving English High Tea to Saturday? That
might be a good fit.

Comments?

Suggestions?

Information for air tours:

Densie writes:

>We haven't specified a limit because we've never had more passengers

>bringing an airplane, so we will only have the Piper. This means that

I think what's best to do for this is to get an approximate headcount
at sign-up time with a note that they are to see you in person to set
up the time, plus give you the deposit.

>We could schedule flights, but we're not that organized, so suffice it
>to say that if you show up at 8am, you will definitely get to fly, and
>if you show up before 11am, you are likely to get to fly. Also, keep

>may be a little gusty or bumpy.

Thanks for the updates, Densie. :)

High Tea:

Tootsye writes:

>I see the English High Tea listed as being an event, but I do not see
>it on the schedule? I know that Jamie Renae and I are very interested
>in signing up for it, but we need to know when and where!

See Mindy's note below. It's planned but still not scheduled, so it
won't appear on any schedules until we at least have a tentative
timeslot for it.

Garden Party:

Mindy writes:

>it is with regret that i must cancel the garden party for this year.
>we are moving into a new home and diane has requested that i give the
>neighbors some time to get used to me.. she feels that the diva garden
>party is just to close to our move in date.

I really hate to see this one cancelled, Mindy, but I do understand the
circumstances and I'm sure everybody in the ORG group here understands
as well.

>i am sure we will be doing the garden party next year.. as for the golf
>it is a go as planned..

>the high tea will be held we are looking at a date now.. should have a
>decision in the next couple of days..

Thanks, Mindy. This is one that people are asking about.

We'll need to have at least a tentative day and approximate time in order
to get it on the activity sign-up.

It's marked as tentatively for Friday, but I can also see it fitting in
on Saturday in lieu of the Garden Party.

>the pity party is still a go at zingers though with the current
>situation unknow as to if they will still be open then i am looking for
>a backup location..
. . . . .

As to the Zingers situation, I'm going to speak very freely here.

If anybody knows of any reason (a reason that is supported by facts
other than some people being upset at the recent personnel issues) that
Zingers might not be open or might not be available for DLV, we need to
know about it now.

We have quite a few eggs in the Zingers basket for DLV 2005 and we need
to know sooner rather than later if those activities may indeed be at
risk.

We have two volunteers who are in contact with the Zingers staff
members, and they assure us that everything is "GO" as far as all
Zingers-based activities for DLV 2005.

If anybody sincerely believes that this is not the case, please let us
know. If you don't want to post it to the forum, write me off line and
I'll keep your name confidential if requested.

San Remo as Mainstream Watering Hole on Monday:

Thanks, Crystal.

We did have a second nomination off line and Ginger is considering the
options the last I heard.

Glamour Boutique:

John from Glamour Boutique sends in the following item.

I said I would forward this to the ORG group before giving him the "GO"
on it.

Comments on this would be appreciated.

John writes:

+Hi Annie---Amy and I were talking about this year's DLV. We came up
+with an idea that we wanted to run past you. We can put together a
+small package of clubs and interests in the area along with some
+coupons and some scratch prize tickets redeemable at Glamour Boutique
+anytime during the DLV week. Each person would get one when they
+registered with your group. Then they could redeem the coupons and
+scratch tickets at the store at the open house or whenever they were
+around.

+Let me know if you think this is workable and I will get the list of
+prizes together.

+As always we are looking forward to seeing our many Diva Las Vegas
+friends and to make some new ones.

+Many thanks,

+John Warrener
+Glamour Boutique

I personally don't see any issues except for the distribution,
which I'm sure we can get a volunteer to handle.

Thanks, Sarah. I'm planning to use an edited version of this for the
activity feature this week in the general mailing. :)

Eating Out:

Michelle (NZ) writes:

How-DEEEEEEEE!

Hmmm ... Actually that was one thing I was hoping to avoid, both from
the standpoint of more boxes to check and also to encourage the
spontaneity that EON gets.

If you do think this is important, yes, we can add it to the sign-up
screen.

Let's poll the other EON hostesses. Crystal? Lorraine? Do you want an
approximate headcount beforehand?

I'll go with the consensus on this.

>A group of 10 or so to Bertolini's would be no problem, one approaching
>twenty might start to cause Issues of arriving unannounced and anything
>bigger would probably need a booking to avoid a wait! The place is
>fairly big but it also very popular in the evenings so I think a head
>count is in order!

My guess (and that's what it is, a guess) is that about half of the
people we have present in Las Vegas that day (about 50-55 people or so)
will eat at one of the places, and that there will be a skewing of
numbers toward the two "safer" options, those being Pacos at the Sahara
and Milanos. My hunch is that most of the locals will not eat with us,
but join us later in the evening.

If I had to guess at how many you would get, I would say 10. :)

>Bertolini's is a medium priced italian style restaurant located in the
>Ceasars Form shopping area.

>The plan is to sit out in the patio areas rather than inside. The place

>locations so any advice would be appreciated....(though...look up web
>site and see if they have a map...note to self...do soon!)

>When I've eaten there before, usually by myself, I've had no problems
>and been treated very well by all the staff. Over the past three or
>four years I've been there at least a half a dozen times.

>Meals prices, including 1/2 glasses of wine, coffee, and usually
>appetizers, main and dessert have varied from $40.00 to $70.00. The

>Dressy casual to business dress would be OK here. There's a bit of
>walking to / from the casino and car park so comfortable shoes would be

>Can't think of anything else to say about the place.

Thanks, Michelle. I'll get this in the notes on the final schedule.
