Org List:
This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

This mailing:
There are a number of widely varying misc. things going on this week.
A few decisions that have to be made by the group, see various items.
Thanks again to everybody for input and follow-up. :)
Registrations continue to come in. See numbers below. They seem to
(carefully watching wording here) :) arrive in bursts as they did the
past couple years.
. . . . .
Roommates and Big Sisters:
Nora, Crystal, Diane? What is/are the approximate timeframe(s) for the
matching of Big/Little Sisters and roommates?
When can the people who requested these expect to receive some kind
of response?
I want to post some general information on these topics soon in the
general mailings.
. . . . .
Event coverage, TRANSFORMATION Magazine:
I got a note from a Marlayna Lacie citing TRANSFORMATION Magazine,
expressing interest on doing a feature photo article on this year's
event.
She gave the URL http://www.marlaynasworld.com/ in the note. I pulled it
up and it appears to be a pay site. Some of the images appeared broken
on the machine here, but they may be visible with IE.
Is anybody familiar with Marlayna Lacie or TRANSFORMATION Magazine?
I admit that I am somewhat out of the loop regarding the community
publications.
Is this the kind of coverage we want? Do we want any coverage?
Comments, please.
. . . . .
Latest numbers:
Validated primary attendees: 83
Validated SO's: 16
Total validated headcount: 99
Validations pending: 1
Looks like the winning run is rounding third. :) :) :)

Opinion and sanity check please:
Let's discuss group meals, and in particular, do we need or want more
of them.
Do our attendees want more of them?
I don't know. I'm asking. :)
In particular, do we want to try for some kind of a group meal right
before the Michael Cagle show on Saturday?
On one hand I can see this increasing our overall turnout and
participation for the final evening.
On the other hand, I don't want something like this to dilute the
enthusiasm for our other group meals.
Currently we have 3 major group evening meals planned, plus the smaller
group thing on Wednesday. That leaves Tuesday (NSD night), Thursday
(show, limo, pity night), and Saturday (final night) without any major
meal plans.

Some apprehensive newbee feedback:
This began as an e-mail exchange between me and one who registered who
had some concerns.
I asked her to elaborate on some points, and I received what I believe
is the best first-person feedback within the history of DLV from
somebody who chose not to attend (twice) at the 11th. hour. I would
like to share these responses with all of you ...
I don't see any of this as being critical, but more of a valuable
insight into what goes on with those who choose to bail.
I'm copying it here for the benefit of all of us, and in particular
those who volunteered to be Big Sisters.
. . .
+I had a Big Sister who was assigned to me last year, and said after the
+first exchange, "if you ever need any help feel free to email me." But
+as the days got more and more close, I started to feel more and more
+alone, and chickened out.
+I don't think there was a definitive date when I decided not to go,
+it just kept mounting and mounting. I think that if the Big Sisters can
+be a little more proactive -- just shooting an email every week to just
+check in, it would probably create a stronger bond between them and the
+newbies.
+I probably knew, for sure, I wasn't going to go about 2-3 weeks
+before the event. I hadn't booked a hotel room, flight, or anything.
+It wasn't that I didn't have the money to do so at the last minute,
+just that the fear was too big.
+This is why I suggested in my original email a little sister network
+-- a message board or something for those of who are in the same boat
+to communicate with each other. The Big Sisters may have been in our
+place at one time, but it "feels" like that was a long time ago.
+>Did you actually travel to Las Vegas, or did you stay at home?
+No, I didn't travel to Vegas, I stayed home. The interesting thing is
+that I would have thought that I would have felt guilty about not
+attending, missing opportunities, and letting my Big Sister down, but
+maybe because I wasn't emotionally invested, I didn't feel that bad. I
+actually felt a bit of relief at chickening out.
+And I became a little more resolute that the next year I would get one
+step closer to attending.
+The first year, I registered and followed along with the emails.
+The second year, I registered, followed along, and got a big sister.
+This year, I registered, asked for a big sister, asked for a room mate
+Each year, I feel I am getting closer and closer to putting on those
+heels and walking out the door, let's just hope I'm not old and grey
+before that day :)
. . .
+>Would there have been anything that we could have done in particular
+>that would have made you reconsider your decision to not attend?
+I think a couple of things may have helped.
+Email reminders of what to prepare for as the months and then weeks
+got closer. Some of the email seem very tactical -- make sure you are
+registered, remember the costs, remember how to dress.
+Maybe they could be a little more "nurturing" to the scared of heart.
+If I did cancel out, a nice email from the Big Sister asking why and
+saying that she was disappointed may have tipped the scale so that I
+would feel like I had let her, myself, and the whole team down.
+I'm not trying to be a baby, and I know that the BIg Sisters have
+lives of their own to lead.
+But, I guess I'm saying that I didn't really feel any proactive
+support, just reactive support to the questions I raised.
. . .
+>Was there anything about DLV in particular that made you feel
+>uncertain or uneasy?
+As I've mentioned, I've been following along for a couple years, via
+email. I read the emails, follow the discussions, check out the photos
+and recaps of the events. One part of me longs to participate, but
+another feels isolated and uncomfortable in my skin, body, and mind.
+Hope this helps, I tried to be as honest as possible.

FSE, sunbathing, dancing:
Diane writes:
>Morning Annie,
Good morning, starshine ... :)

>address below) runs along LV Blvd to Fremont street It's about 2 1/4
>miles from the Sahara Casino to the Four Queens hotel; which is on the

Let's do another discussion and sanity check here ... :)
And I'm really not trying to come down on Diane's suggestion here, I
know she said "for those who are comfortable ...", I'm just questioning
the general idea ...
For some reason I'm very uneasy recommending a city bus for DLV
transportation, particularly to those who don't have much experience out
in public, and even for those who are starting to build up a degree of
experience and confidence.
I do know that some of our people do take them in LV and have had good
luck.
And I'm one who in general supports public transit.
The one time I did ride a CAT bus, I found it slow, crowded, and hot,
and my impression was that it's not what Cathy Closetcase would feel
comfortable taking.
I'm first of all concerned of potential incidents on a bus. Should
something happen, one of our people could be enroute in the middle of
nowhere with nobody to turn to. Sure, the bus driver could radio Metro
(police) if something serious happened, but we don't want that.
Another concern I have is that if we promote the use of city busses,
those who are nervous might take it to mean that safer modes of
transportation are not available or discouraged.
Personally, I think our ride sharing has worked reasonably well, plus
taxis, which have proven to be quite "safe" over the years.

>Yes, sleepwear/loungewear/lingerie will be required for the slumber

Thanks, Sarona. I'll get this on the dress and activity notes.
>>2. Maximum capacity for both activities? (not counting me and Suzie)
>15 max for tea party

Thanks. I'll get this into the activity sign-up page.

Thanks for mentioning this. I remember it was asked of the other Slumber
Party a few years ago.

I will note to pay Sarona in person at any major DLV activity prior.
>I don't know how to arrange a pre-pay. Also, this will give me a
>chance to meet everyone prior.
Since not everybody gets to Las Vegas the same day and not everybody
goes to everything, there will be some I'm sure who will not see you
prior. I'll put on the notes to phone you for payment arrangements
if they do not see you.
Prepayment, even to the extent of requiring payment prior to DLV
sometimes has to be used in some cases to avoid taking a bath.
We're now getting a handle on what our turnout and no-show rates
will be, but there are still cases where actual turnout is poor.
>First priorty in signup is for those who want to do the whole night
>from little girl tea party through sleep over. Then on a space-available
>basis for others at the sleep over, and others at the tea party.
I will get this into the sign-up screen. I don't know if you know how
the reports come out of that, but you'll get a list of those who are
first-priority and those who are on the waiting list.
>Did I answer all the questions?
Yes, including some I didn't ask, actually. :) Thanks.
>breakfast is not included, please be prepared to check out before ten
>in the morning.
And again, I'll get these in the notes.
>bye for now from Sarona

Limo tour notes:
Jamie sends in the following:
+Diva Las Vegas Limo Tour
+Thursday evening, April 28th, 2005 $38.00 covers cost of limo and
+beverage
+The Limo Tour is one of the premier events at Diva Las Vegas. It
+involves a Stretch limousine ride around Las Vegas. You will join 35
+other Ladies and Gentlemen in a 3 hour tour of selected Casinos for a
+photo shoot. If you can imagine what 6 stretch limos look like pulling
+up to the front doors of Las Vegas casinos, you can imagine the fun you
+will have getting your photo taken with your Sisters and Brothers in
+front of famous Las Vegas landmarks.
+There is a limit of 36 participants. There will be 6 people in each, of
+6, limos. The list will be on a first come first served basis. I will
+enter your name on a list in the order that I receive it. I will accept
+emails that are addressed to
+I will keep a list of all applicants, so that if and when someone
+cancels, the next person will move up a place. Payment MUST be
+completed by Tuesday April 26, 2005, prior to the NSD event. You may
+pay in advance by mailing a money order or personal check, made out to
+J. VanHorn, to:
+Jamie Renae
+P.O. Box 8831
+Fayetteville Ar, 72703
+I have to receive the advance payment prior to April 20th , 2005, since
+I will be leaving for DLV the next day. You may pay in cash anytime in
+Las Vegas, up until the cutoff time.
+I will need the name that you will be using while attending DLV, your
+choice of beverage, champagne, soft drink or water, and any preferences
+of who you want to share a limo with.
+I can assure you that you will have a great time.
+Jamie Renae
. . . . .
A few notes and comments here, primarily to Jamie and Tootsye.
First, I want to use most of this as an activity highlight shortly,
like the mailing after next. It's time to feature some of our big gun
activities.
Second, if you don't mind, I would like to roll the sign-up of the Limo
Tour into the overall DLV activity sign-up to keep that process a
one-stop-shop for all activities, as opposed to having a separate
sign-up for just the Limo Tour. This can be set up to give you an e-mail
at the above address when a sign-up is made, so if you want to keep a
separate list, that will work. It can also launch an e-mail to the
person signing up reminding them of the payment details.
Is this ok with you?

I would sure like to list this information on the Big List and in the
Large Final Mailing. As I think, the only unisex restrooms I know of
are in the Desert Passage (Aladdin) and the Pahrump Nugget.
If anybody knows of any unisex restrooms in the Las Vegas area, please
send in a note. I'll be happy to add a listing to our Big List, and also
add appropriate notes in the LFM.
