Org List:
This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org05arc/acts.html
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Looking VERY good:
As I keep saying {knocking on wood} things are looking great!
Everybody's doing their part and it's all coming together and looking
more and more like this will be our best DLV ever.
Thanks to everybody for doing their part in making this one of the
smoothest years I can remember! :)
We're on a roll, gang! :)
. . . . .
Registrations continue to come in. We are WAY ahead of the game this
year, we already have as many validated attendees as we had in the
middle of February last year!
Validated registrations: 70
SO's: 15
Validated headcount: 85
No validations outstanding. No registrations cancelled for no-validate
yet. Very good cooperation so far! Much better than last year!
Still a few conspicuous names missing. (>>HINT<<) :)
. . . . .
Web hits are still good. Average in the 1300 or so hits per day range.
Lowest in recent days was 800-something and highest was 2400-something.
. . . . .
Glamour Boutique would like to host their usual Open House on Thursday
of DLV week, this time running from 10 in the morning until 4 in the
afternoon. They will have some promotional specials yet to be
determined.
. . .
I've written to Tushell over at Bad Attitude with regard to things like
open house sessions, workshops, etc. No response yet. I'll keep the
group in the loop.
. . .
Also a query from Femme Fever about coming in and doing makeovers as
well as doing some kind of a junket for their people. (NYC/LI area) I
sent pretty much the standard responses, have not heard back yet.
. . .
A couple more queries about group registrations. My standard answer is
that we need to have a one-to-one relationship with every attendee and
that we ask all who plan to attend to register directly with us. This
is becoming a candidate for an addition to the FAQ list.
. . . . .
There will most likely not be a general mailing this week unless
something unexpected happens. Next one will be on the 30th.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:
Much shorter this time! Thanks to everybody who helped out! :)
* Aiko, any thoughts to which show for Thursday?
* All, any volunteers to help Aiko?
. . .
* Aiko, also, what's the maximum capacity for NSD II?
. . .
* Mindy, will there be a charge for the Pity Party this year?
. . .
* Monique, have you selected a venue for the Mainstream Option on
Monday evening?
. . .
* Michelle - Miniature golf. Timeslot? Location?
. . .
* Late-Night gambling expedition? Volunteers?
This could actually be combined with the FSE thing. See below.
Going twice ...
. . .
* SO activities?
Not a peep on this one. :( 15 SO's registered so far as of this writing
with many more to come.
It should be noted that a number of people who have previously come
solo, including some reading this right now (>>HINT<<) will be coming
this year with SO in tow.
. . .
* Gina? Shooting expedition? I know you updated us on the 4x4 thing.
Going once ...
. . .
* Tuesday evening? Do we want to have some kind of a local alternative
for those not going on the Night Of The Soiled Doves? Yes, I know the
obvious, but do we want something official on the schedule?
. . .
* For Saturday. Mindy, Nora, is the Garden Party still on track? Is this
to be a joint SBS/DLV sponsorship this year? If so I want to be sure to
get the nomenclature on the schedules correct. Nobody corrected me last
year until after the fact. Location?
Thanks, gang! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Use of Zingers:
It's obvious that we will be using Zingers more than we've ever used
any other facility in the history of DLV.
This is a "going twice" with the gavel raised for the final bang.
Anybody who objects to using one facility this much, speak now, because
most of these proposed Zingers activities will be changed from pencil to
ink shortly.
. . . . .
On a related note ...
We want to have a mutually-beneficial and consistent working
relationship with the Zingers staff. It's a great club, and I know our
people will frequent it for DLV activities, on their own during DLV
week, and on non-DLV trips to Las Vegas.
We will be driving a lot of bar business their way, so I'm sure they
want to know what we want, and want to keep us happy.
On the other hand, we don't want to overly burden them or wear out
our welcome.
We need to be sure that the Zingers staff has people to go to who know
what's going on with regard to DLV, and we want to be sure that our
contact people know who in fact does and does not speak for the
management of Zingers.
I've asked Aiko and Nora to jump in and act in the capacity of contact
people between us and Zingers. I'm sorry that this had to be done so
quickly without the usual round of discussion here. If anybody else is
anxious to serve in this capacity, they can feel free to volunteer for
such a position next year if there is a need for same.
Thanks to Aiko and Nora for helping out here.
I would like to ask all to please use Aiko and Nora as your go-to people
for anything that involves DLV and Zingers this year.
If you need contact information for them, write in and it will be yours.
. . .
Looking over the schedule ...
Here's what I'm currently showing as our planned and possible Zingers
activities as of this time. Of course, everything is still tentative.
Sunday: 8:30pm Welcome Celebration
Monday: 10:00am Death Valley Tour (Carpool staging)
Tuesday: 10:30am Lake Mead Boat Cruise (Carpool staging)
Ev Night Of The Soiled Doves II (Carpool staging)
Ev Possible local alternative to NSD
Ev Post-NSD (whether we schedule or not)
Thursday: 10:00am Art Tour (Carpool staging)
Ev Pity Party (Mindy)
Friday: 11:00am Shopping trip (Carpool staging)
8:30pm Annual Mixer
Saturday: Ev Michael Cagle Show (Aiko)
Ev Jamie Fox and farewell ...
We've also had a tentative thing at Zingers appear on some schedules
for Wedneday night, but as we've been discussing, the whole focus of
the post-EON thing on Wednesday may be changing.
I'm asking the Zingers staff to please use Mindy as the contact person
for the Pity Party on Thursday, Aiko for the Michael Cagle Show, and
Aiko and/or Nora as the contact people for all other DLV activities
using Zingers or for any other activities or concerns.
I'm asking everybody in our group here to be aware that Nora and Aiko
are our liason between us and Zingers, and to please go to them or
through them if you're planning anything else for Zingers, or if there
are any concerns or issues about the details of any of our functions
that will be held at Zingers. If you need contact info, write in.
Your cooperation is appreciated. Thanks. :)

Slumber party:

Well, as to what I think, I don't know really ... thinking back ...
We tried a slumber party thing in 2002 and it did not work, and those
who sponsored it took a significant bath. About 65 or so signed up for
it, IIRC, but only 20 or so showed.
The problems were:
1. Access to the facility (Residence Inn off DI by Convention Center)
was gated so we kinda had to run a shuttle van. We didn't find this out
until the day of the party. This prevented people from bringing their
own vehicles and coming and going as they please.
2. It followed a fairly intense and tightly-scheduled day and evening.
Many of the people were just too tired.
They had a very good idea and planned it well, but things just did not
work out. :( I really hated to see all of that effort (and $$$) go to
waste. :(
The only way you're gonna find out if it will work or not is to try it.
I really think that the lack of convenient access was the primary factor
that killed the one in 2002.
>I would be willing to rent it Sunday through Wednesday or Monday
>through Thursday if people wanted to share it. There are 2 bedrooms

If you will definitely have this available for those days, let's get
Diane (AZ) in the loop. She's coordinating roommate matching, and that
would most certainly have some takers I'm sure.
>well, just want to hear what you think, and if you think any monday
>through wednesday night would be good for a slumber party. i could
>rent it for just one night for the sissy slumber party, and no one

For a slumber party, looking at the schedule the way it stands now,
I see the following timeslot options:
Sunday night (24th) would probably work. Big activity is the Welcome
Celebration and that is normally not too tiring. There is the DV tour
the next morning, but not everybody will go on that.
Monday night (25th) would work. Mainstream/alternative night. Not
that intense. There is the Lake Mead tour the next morning, but again,
not everybody will go on that.
Tuesday is most likely a bad night. Night Of The Soiled Doves. Very
popular activity and I'm sure there will be some post-partying.
Wednesday night is not that intense, but golf is the next day, and we've
tried not to schedule anything that tiring the night before.
Thursday probably won't work. Show/Limo/Pity.
Yes, I agree that those who attend should help pay for it. You can do
this informally, such as a kitty in the room, or formally like requiring
pre-pay. That's up to you.
You also say that you may be called out of town. Since this would not be
something that would be a show-stopper if it happened to be cancelled
even on short notice, I think it would be safe to schedule it and then
pull it or have somebody else take it over if necessary.
I'm going to put this in our activity database as a "proposed" activity.
It won't show on the schedule until it has a timeslot. Think about it,
and select a timeslot if you want to do it.
This also would be an activity where it would be perfectly fine to dress
in stuff that is not appropriate for our more mainstream things.
I would also be interested in hearing what the others here have to say
about this.
Thanks, Sarona.
Comments ladies? (Gentlemen?) :)

>Thoughts?
I'm not a golfer, so please take this as an external observation.
Knowing our group, and how it behaves, I think there's more risk of
spoiling the golf turnout by scheduling golf on Wednesday than there is
risk of spoiling the Show/PP/Limo turnout by having golf on Thursday.
Even if we don't have an official post-NSD thing, if we stage the
vehicles at Zingers, 90% of the "doves" are gonna go back there and
party until it's well into Wednesday. People are gonna lose track of
time (anybody's ears burning?) :) and some will oversleep. It's a lot
harder to get up following a long night of partying than it is to stay
up after a day of moderate physical activity.
That's my non-golfer opinion, anyway ... :)

I'll finalize this on the schedule, with a note in the final schedule
to meet at MCC at 9:45 and look for the hostess with the "DLV" sign.
It will be on the map and directions, same as last year. I do have a
photo of the building for the visual directions, again as last year.
>Last year most of us went to lunch together after the service. I see no
>reason we cannot do that again.
Question here ... do you want to name a time and place for lunch in
advance, thus allowing others to catch up with the group, or do you just
want to decide the lunch venue on the fly in real time after services?

Dancing and FSE:
Jenni writes:
>The dance event should be held on Friday starting around 11:ish PM and

Krave is on Harmon just east of the Strip on the north side of the road.
The address listed is kinda deceptive, as it's a LVB address, but the
entrance is indeed on Harmon and not on LVB. It's on the south end of
the Desert Passage complex. (Aladdin, soon to be Planet Hollywood.)

Krave's phone number is 702-836-0830
A good reference for locations and phones of many of the places of
interest to the t* community is:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/
Here's some of the text from the Krave come-on page at Travelnice:
+Welcome to Krave! The only alternative lifestyles nightclub on the
+strip. This mega entertainment complex in the Desert Passage at the
+Aladdin Hotel Casino is a modern state of the art nightclub that is
+comfortable and welcoming to everyone. In addition to one of the
+largest dance floors on the strip with one of the best light shows in
+the country, Krave is home to E.A.T. with its comfortable dining
+atmosphere and the Fashionistas. A modern and unusual Las Vegas show
+produced by John Stagliano.
+Music Style: Dance, House
+Drink Prices: Drinks prices start at about $7.00
+Age Restriction: Ages 21 and over.
+Hours Of Operation: Club opens at 10pm Fridays and Saturdays.
+Venue Type: Alternative lifestyles; everyone welcome.
+Dress Code: Dress to impress. No baggy jeans, sneakers or baseball caps.
+Seating: Seating available. VIP seating and bottle service available.
They don't discuss cover charge, since this is from a page of an agency
that sells tickets to clubs, but I'm sure there is one. :)
My hunch is that Krave will be a bit less smoky that Gipsy, since the
building is much newer and probably has better air handling.
. . . . .
>The "Freemont Street Experience" would best be held at night because of

Ok, pick a night. AFAIC, we can make this the featured post-Eating Out
Night activity on Wednesday if you want.
>There are many small to large "vintaged" casinos (such
>as the "Golden Nugget"), dinner establishments and gift shops that make

Speaking of dinner, if you choose to do this on Wednesday, one of the
dinner options for Eating Out Night could be someplace downtown, such as
the Golden Nugget Buffet or the Main Street Station buffet. If you want
more of a "real" restaurant, something like Hugo's Cellar or even
Roberta's at the El Cortez. There are many more in the area.
>Were we thinking of having a "central point" to gather at? Possibly one
>of the casinos?
That will be up to you. I might suggest having one location at which to
kind of make contact with someone from the group, but not encouraging
people to hang around in large groups.
>The Freemont Street light show has several times that
>it "plays". I will try to get some type of a show schedule. It should

IIRC, it happens on the hour. Possibly other times as well.
This could also segue into a late-night gaming thing.
They tell me that there is indeed a GLBT bar downtown, but I've never
been there.

Thanks, Tawni. That's what we needed. Let's plan on this going out in
the next general mailing, which will most likely be January 30.
I'm also going to change the title of the activity on the schedule to
"Dance Instruction", removing the "ballroom" for clarity.
Do you know what the maximum capacity for this will be?
Also, I'm assuming that this will be at the Arthur Murray Studio on
Maryland Parkway, opposite UNLV. Am I correct?

Again, sounds good. Thanks. This will be one of the featured activities
in the general mailings within the next several weeks.

Sounds good. Only question I have is which specific restaurant at the
Paris are you planning this for? We do need to give very explicit names
and such on the final schedule. If you don't remember the restaurant
name for sure, describe it and we'll figure it out.
>i was thinking the theme would be little black dress (or not so little)
>this is an item which most people have and does not look over the top
That's fine. We'll note this in the schedule. Thanks, Lorraine! :)

Actually, I like this option. We did have some complaints about the
limited menu at HR last year and at Sasha's before.
>We were offered a private but open room to the right of the restaurant,

As for turnout and capacity, wow, that's so hard to say this soon. All
things are pointing to a very heavy turnout, even for the early things.
(Yeah, I know I've said that for the past few years too. ...) :)
We're getting a good handle on what our typical show-up rate is for
various activities and what various fall-out factors are. We can most
likely give them a very good guess a couple weeks before the 25th.
My hunch is that we will make 40 easily for this. We can set a limit on
sign-ups based on our observed fallout for things like this and any
extra people can sit in the adjacent area.
>Let me know if this seems OK.
Sounds just fine, Nora. Thanks. :)

That's really up to you. I'm assuming you mean one group with an early
departure, eventually taking the same cruise, am I correct?
Monday evening is not too intense (as of now) so there may be some
interest, but the only way to find out is to try it.
