Org List:
This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Looking real good:
Sorry about the length of this. Lots of material has come in as you
will see below.
Once again, BIG THANKS to those who have stepped forward to volunteer!
I'm very impressed by the way that things have fallen into place over
the past 2 weeks or so. I think we can almost safely say that all of our
major bases are just about covered at this time.
I'm hearing no callings to move or reschedule any of our major
activities, so it looks like we won't see a Great Reshuffling this
year. :) Unless there are unforseen circumstances, let's consider
the timeslots of the major evening activities to be in stone.
. . . . .
Web site hits are WAY up, with 1500 or more per day being common. The
record so far this year, and possibly over all time is 2706 last
Saturday.
. . . . .
Latest numbers:
Validated primary attendees: 63
Validated SO's: 14
Total validated headcount: 77
Fasten your seatbelts, gang!

Production show:
Aiko writes:
>Since we are missing an activity prior to the Limo Tour on Thursday, I
>volunteer to be the coordinator for that activity. In previous years,
>we've had a production show, and we can do that again this year.
Thanks, Aiko. :) (Ok, everybody in unison now ... "Thanks, Aiko!") :)
>But just out of curiousity, is there another activity that others would
>like, keeping in mind that the Limo Tour follows, and most will be
>dressed more formally.
Personally, I think the combination of show and limo works very well
together. Very enjoyable two-part evening. It ain't broke, don't fix it!
About the only other thing I can think of would be a group dinner, but
we do have more eating activities than show activities on the schedule
already.
>If we decide on a production show, I would also like to have an
>assistant volunteer. However, it would be nice to have someone who
>has not volunteered in the past and is currently not involved in
>coordinating any other activity.
Volunteers? :) Anybody for OJT? :)

Din-din on Monday:
Nora writes:
>I am still interested in coordinating a dinner activity.
>I was originally thinking of having the dinner at the Bahama Breeze
>which is centrally located right on Flamingo and a block away from the
>Hard Rock where last years dinner was being held.
Ok, that sounds great, thanks. :)
>Bahama Breeze might work on Monday But haven't we traditionally held
>the Monday night happy hour at Hamburger Mary's.
We have Hamburger Mary's for Sunday evening HH and dinner this year.
Assuming that Bahama Breeze has a bar, it would work for both HH and
dinner on Monday.
If there are no objections, I'll put Bahama Breeze down for both HH and
Dinner on Monday. Remember, everything is still in pencil as of this
time. :)
Thanks, Nora :)
Oh, also, about Bahama Breeze, is it directly accessible from Flamingo?
Reason I'm asking, I think I remember seeing it once and I thought I saw
it like on a main corner. However the Big List gives the address on
Hughes Center Drive, which would (I think) put it more over in the area
with Lawrys and Cozymels. I'm actually starting to put together the
initial stuff for the maps and directions.

Dancing and FSE:
Jenni writes:
>Why of course I will volunteer to be the coordinator for the Friday
>night dance. I did such a good job last year (my left hand patting
>myself on my back while I am typing)! I would love to do it again.
Thanks, Jenni, we've got you down! :)
>Do we really want to hold it at Gypsies again this year?
That's really up to you. You're the doctor, or, uh, the dancer in this
case. :)
We should probably ask for comments about that.
How about it, dancing fans, do you want Gipsy or elsewhere?
>We did have 22 ladies show last year, but Gypsies is a real "smoke
>house" and it may be more advisable to hold it elsewhere.
I think 22 was our all-time high turnout for this one.
As to the smoke/smoking issue, I don't have an answer. Yes, the issue
did appear multiple times in the survey responses last year. Las Vegas
is not very nonsmoker-friendly. That's one fact that we will most likely
have to accept. In other words, I don't know of a place that will have
the same atmosphere but will be considerably less smoky. :(
>Any suggestions from our locals?
Well, I'm not local, but the one place that gets talked about is Krave.
They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that Krave wants to take over some
of Gipsy's business. You could do both -- or more. I'm also assuming
that Goodtimes has their new dance floor open.
I have never been to Krave, I could have gone there -- there was an
after-party there after a concert I went to at the Aladdin, but we were
all tired and such, so we skipped it.
>When is the last activity over with?
Well, since Dance Night is the last activity that night, it will be over
when you and your gang finally crash. :) :)
Seriously, the activity before will be the Annual Mixer, which will most
likely include the Lou Martinez Show, which starts at 9. IIRC, they end
about midnight, which is about the time the dance clubs just start to
get going. If you wanna go dancing earlier, that will be your option
as well.
. . . . .
>I am also willing to help out on the Freemont experience and will
>probably ask one or two others to help. It is a beautiful part of the
>strip that goes unnoticed. Got a date in mind?
Well, I see several timeslot options for this. I assume you want this to
be in the evening, right?
One might be Sunday after the Welcome Celebration, maybe for those who
want something more out in the open, or those who just want a break
from drinking and shooting the $#!+.
It could be Monday as a third option for our Mainstream-Alternative
Night.
It could be a local option opposite Night Of The Soiled Doves for those
who don't want to take that trip.
On Wednesday I had planned for a Maximum-Turnout thing after Eating
Out Night, but since it looks like we're gonna have two very strong
max-turnout things on Friday and Saturday, I'm kinda rethinking the
options for that night, so FSE may be workable Wednesday, either as
the featured after-EON activity or one of two or more options.
It could also be a third option against the Limo Tour and Pity Party, on
Thursday, but I don't think the turnout would be the best since most of
our people will probably want to do one of those or the other.
Whadaya think, Jenni?
Everybody else, whadaya think?

Bowling, dinner, shows, (mini)golf:
Michelle (NV) writes:
>I will get on the bowling the next two weeks also will find out about
>Carlucciios. I volunteer to do the minature golf also.
Ok, we'll consider bowling a done deal, please say where and firm up
when, we have it penciled in on Monday.
I'm assuming you will want some kind of prepay system this year. If this
is the case, it might be worth looking in to moving this one to some day
later in the week, as it might allow more to prepay in person. Please
let me know.
As for Mini Golf, please pick a timeslot and location.
Also, please check into and let us know about Carluccio's. In the past
they have not required any deposit or formality.
In the past Leah very assertively negotiated no restrictions on the use
of facilities, plus that the "s-word" was not to be used by their
staff. :) :)

That's one show that keeps coming up in conversation, but I don't really
know anything about it.
Comments, gang?
>I also think dinner at the Rainbow Lounge might be nice. They have a
>nice atmosphere there.
Please tell us more about the Rainbow Lounge.
What kind of food to they feature? Price range? What is their seating
capacity for dinner? I know it's in the old Cobalt building, and I don't
think of that place as being very large.
Would Rainbow Lounge maybe be appropriate for a dinner on Saturday prior
to the Michael Cagle Show?
>The other show id love to see is Mama Mia at Mandalay.
Do you know what the price is on this?
Everybody, would you be interested in this?
Thanks, Michelle. :)

Well, you're the doctor on this one, I mean the pilot. :)
I kinda like this idea, actually. :)
Since those who show get their $$$ back, there's no way anybody could
claim it's a ride for hire. :)
I'm sure that we will be seeing more pre-pay things this year, just to
avoid anybody taking a bath. We could actually be quite direct with
those signing up, and tell them that it's intended for the no-shows
to buy the fuel. :)

It's a done deal then, let's make it happen! :)
IIRC, Nathans in NYNY is up the escalator and kinda to the left from the
main casino area. Is this correct?
For those listening in, Crystal hints at a special surprise for
everybody who joins her at Nathan's on Wednesday evening. :)
Thanks, Crystal.
Any others want to select their places? Does anybody need any
suggestions?

Ok {squeak!} one mark for Four Seasons noted. :)
. . . . .
>Tootsey and I will be getting together for a planning session on the
>Limo Tour. We should have a firm package by the middle of Feburary.
>Will that work into the "Notification schedule" OK?
Yes, that will be well within the schedule. We do want to have the
dates/times/places solid by March 15.
>We are looking at pretty well the same procedure.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I was very impressed by the way the
tour was organized and how smoothly it went last year. It was very
enjoyable. I heard lots of very positive comments!
One question, will you still have the same 36 person limit this year?
>We just need to
>reverify the costs. Since the fuel prices have gone up so much, I am
>figuring on an increased charge from the Limo company.
That very well may be the case. I'm sure all will understand if the
price has to be hiked a bit.
Thanks for the update, Jamie. :)

Thanks, Julie Anne and Jamie! :) I think that's the last of the major
calendars that we were missing from. :)
We are starting to see referrals from that site now, so we know it's
working.
. . .
>When will we be able to start signing up for DLV events?
Activity sign-up is scheduled to start April 1, maybe even a bit earlier
if all of the details of the major ones are solid.

"going twice" note in this week's general mailing.

>>I think that's Lou Martinez, but I don't know how long their gig is.
>Correct, yes. And his keyboard player is Lou Armstrong?
>If you weren't there, you don't get the joke. ;)
I probably missed it. I kinda got distracted and ended up wandering
all over the place and it seemed like the later it got, the farther
to the back of the place I got. :)
. . . . .

We'll get Margeth back one year, and when that does happen, yes, I'll
toast the occasion with a glass of Galiano [sic]. Yes, you have it in
writing. :)
T-shirts are back, although in somewhat of a different form.
As for the Del Mar ... :)
