Org List:

This is the DLV 2005 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Ongoing activity database appears on the web at:

Dates, etc.:

There really has not been too much discussion on this over the past
few weeks, but ...

On July 25 a special mailing will be sent out for a Call For Votes on
our DLV 2005 dates. Everybody on the ORG list gets one vote. As of this
time there is only one "candidate" on the ballot, April 24-30 2005. Even
if there are no others proposed, we will still do the vote, so we don't
have any complaints on the dates or on the process, as we did last year.

That's just one regular list cycle away. This is your final call for
discussion on the dates, and your final call for alternative timeframe
nominations to appear on the ballot.

If everybody's indeed fine with those dates, then there's no need for
discussion, but if there are any objections, they need to go on the
table now.

Going twice ...
. . . . .

Although I don't think any of the ORG mail was affected, we have had a
few incoming messages from Yahoo that were inadvertently and erroneously
deleted as spam over the past week or so. If you sent something in and
don't see it or at least a reference to it, please let me know.

If you ever send something in and don't at least see a reference to it,
please let me know. E-mail is not a perfect medium. Thanks.
. . . . .

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that there will be no measure
of the anti-cathouse variety on the Nye County ballot this November,
so NSD II is not in jeopardy, from that angle, anyway. :)

Hi Crystal

:) :) :)

Good, and we appreciate you stepping forward. :)

>If EON needs another hostess, count me in. Annie - it was funny that

>Big Brother, er um, I mean Big Sister watching me?

Yes, we saw what you did and we know who you are ...

Thank you, we'll put you down for EON. There's a Nathan's over at NYNY
and one at Luxor if you wanna do that, :) but you can decide where to
host(ess) your thing as the date approaches.

>Speaking of Big Sisters ... Nora, if you need help with the Big Sister

Ok Nora, if you need a volunteer, there ya go. :)

>I have to say, I love the ballroom idea! What a fun event. Hmmm, which
>ball gown should I wear?

I'm still a bit unclear on exactly what the ball(room) thing is supposed
to be, but I'm waiting for those who want to make it happen to announce
some plans or ideas.

>I agree that the informal get together at the San Remo the Saturday

Thanks, Crystal. Sounds like a plan.

Aiko has the current contact info for the David Saxe people. That should
be able to get you started. I doubt if they book this far in advance,
but ...
. . . . .

And Aiko responds ...

>I was bounced around to a couple of sales people, but my last contact
>at David Saxe was Bobbi Dragone .... bdragone@davidsaxe.com.

>When they cancelled V at Venetian, Bobbi sent me to the asst. manager
>of the Desert Passage theater, who then changed everything to O, then
>back to V, then another change, or was that two changes ... hey, it
>might have been three or four changes. I can't really remember. :)

>Anyway, for SOM, I think Bobbi can help Crystal. It'll be interesting
>to see how many times Crystal gets bounced around. :)

There ya go, Crystal. :) Thanks, Aiko.

T-shirts:

Some cleaned-up images now appear on the web, first, the logo with the
background colors from the green and pink shirts shown at the Cafepress
site:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvtsampleg.jpg
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlvtsamplep.jpg

These are .jpg's and do have some loss, plus they are made to display at
72dpi on standard web browsers. They are much cleaner that the rough
samples from a couple weeks ago, but not as crisp as the t-shirt artwork
will be. The colors of the backgrounds are as close as I could get by
sampling the images on the Cafepress site.

This next one is a slight variation, for a 2004 commemorative shirt, not
unlike the ones we did for 1998-1999.

The full-resolution image, if anybody wants to see it, it at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv05jm01.png

This is 2400x3000 pixels, 300dpi. Most browsers will attempt to display
it at 72dpi, so it will most likely fill the screen several times over.

If you use an external viewer or graphics program at 300dpi, or print it
on a color printer capable of 300dpi or greater, you will get an idea of
what it actually looks like.
. . .

And, Dorothy, I also like the "Jr Raglan" top, item 102 on their site.
It comes in pink/white (shown) plus black/white and blue/white. Kind of
a mid/long sleeve. I think that would be a nice addition to the product
list, with the generic DLV logo on the front.

Kenny materializes:

Thanks to several who sent in pointers and links to the item partially
quoted below. As reported in Mike Weatherford's column in the {Review
Journal} last Thursday, Kenny Kerr is once again on stage in Las Vegas.

Kenny and company opened last weekend at the Sunset Station.

Assuming the show stays open (shows like this can last for a few weeks
or many years) this would be another show that would interest our
people.

All it would take for this to happen as a DLV activity is for somebody
to volunteer to take on the project. If this show stays on a Thursday
schedule, it could work quite well as the show portion of what has
become our traditional Thursday Show-Limo thing.

For those not familiar with Kenny Kerr, Kenny was the headliner of the
"Boylesque" show, which opened in the late 70's at the Silver Slipper
Casino. The Silver Slipper is long gone, but it sat between the Frontier
and the Stardust, straddling what is now the north parking lot of the
Frontier and part of the DI arterial underpass.

DLV first saw Kenny's Boylesque show at the Debbie Reynolds (now Greek
Isles) in 1998. We had a much larger group attend the show at the Plaza
in 1999.

In late 2000, business issues caused the closure of the long-running
Boylesque (at the time, Kenny Kerr was the longest continuously
appearing headliner in Las Vegas) but he opened a smaller show at the
Frontier shortly after.

DLV attended Kenny's show at the Frontier shortly before it closed in
2001.

I watched for comments and reviews of Kenny's new show last weekend, but
didn't see any.

If anybody sees any reviews or better yet sees the show, please let us
know.
. . . . .

 From Mike Weatherford:

+It's "welcome back" week as three veteran acts return to local stages.
+Comic cross-dresser Kenny Kerr and illusionist-escape artist Dixie
+Dooley open new shows today, while Hawaiian variety favorite Society of
+Seven plans an Aug. 7 comeback.
...

+Local fans of Kerr will be happy to find the star of the
+well-remembered "Boylesque" in a new drag endeavor at Sunset Station's
+Club Madrid.

+"I'm back here for good. I'm sick of traveling," Kerr says of
+out-of-town work, mostly in Palm Springs, Calif., that kept him busy
+since his ill-fated show at the New Frontier in 2001.

+Many of Kerr's problems there, and at the Plaza before that, seemed to
+stem from trying to run the business side. This time, Excalibur
+"Tournament of Kings" producer Patrick Jackson has stepped in as
+producer.

+"Kenny Kerr and Friends" begins modestly, opening today with a schedule
+of two 10 p.m. shows weekly, on Thursdays and Fridays. Tickets are
+$19.95, but locals get a $5 discount.

+"Friends" include a three-piece band and impersonator Chad Michaels. He
+and Kerr plan to team up for "four Cher looks in four minutes," Kerr
+says, adding that he hopes to add dancers and more drag performers over
+time.
