Yes, Jenni will be dearly missed.

Oh, it's NEVER too early to ask for volunteers. :) :)

We can ask now, and revisit the topic around the first of the year.

Thanks, Nora.

Ladies (gentlemen)? Is there anybody who would like to assist with the
Big Sister program for DLV 2005.

The last night:

Lorraine writes:

>hi all

Hewwo :)

>much about it so far this year

It was not rated that badly, IIRC, but yes, it was an underwhelming end
to what had been a far more exciting week.

I do agree that we need a strong ending for DLV 2005.

>we all meet at the san remo on the saturday before the start of dlv and

Yes, SOM is a good show.

Yes, this is certainly a possibility for Saturday.

We did more or less this exact thing for Saturday of DLV 2003. We had a
happy hour, which had a fairly good crowd, dinner, which maybe 20 or so
went to at different times, and then Showgirls Of Magic. We had 50-some
for SOM, and filled most of the left side of the auditorium.

The guy who was then the Marketing Director for David Saxe (SOM, V,
others) made us a hell of a deal, one I'm sure we could not get again,
which was like $24 per person with no up-front money or guaranteed
number of seats. To get that price, we had to agree to do all of the $$$
collection, handle the ticketing, and police the line for the show. We
also passed the hat for the showroom staff. (I've found that the phrase
"we will take care of the showroom staff" works magic when dealing with
the show sales types.) :)

If you are (or anybody else is) interested in coordinating a Saturday
evening thing like this, I'm sure Aiko has a current contact at David
Saxe Productions who you could talk to about it. For Showgirls Of Magic,
it's the David Saxe people who run the show, as opposed to the San Remo
management. The San Remo just leases the showroom, ticket booth,
dressing rooms, etc. to the Saxe people, so they (the Saxe people) are
the ones you will need to talk to for anything special.

I'm sure they will make a fair deal, probably not as low as $24pp, but
you never know.

I don't think we could fill the place. IIRC, the showroom holds about
150-175 people. They also keep some seats held for such people as high
rollers, invited guests, and some of the hotel and independent ticket
agencies, so our group could not have an exclusive show on a prime
Saturday evening.

My guess is a realistic 60-80 people from our group max, which would be
50-70%of the DLVers in town that evening. That seems to be about the
most we ever get at any one activity.

Some may choose to go to the hh/dinner and not the show. This happened
in 2003. Many of our people have seen it once, several have seen it
twice or more now.

There will also be some more lineup changes in SOM shortly. Steve ("Tiny
Bubbles") has been offered the emcee position in another show, and will
be taking it the last I heard. I've also heard that Antonio ("The Great
Antoine") has been offered another deal as well.

Activity suggestions:

There ya go, ball(room) fans, I think this indicates support for this
from the Teeming Millions.

Rochelle writes:

>Just one suggestion what about the afternoon tea, had a lovely time

IIRC, Mindy said this would happen, but the location to be determined.
It's on the schedule as proposed.

memorable. (>MEOW<) Jeez I'm catty this morning! :)

That's kinda what I suspected, a very generic transfer. I assume an
outfit like that would do it with a heat press and not an electric
iron. :)

If Dorothy goes ahead and sets up a Cafepress store, I'll most likely
order one just to see how they come out.

More Laughlin thoughts:

I wouldn't call it really a dim picture, more like the same thing that
happens around here ... outstate people visit Omaha when they don't have
the time or money to visit Chicago or St. Louis (or Las Vegas). :)

Oh, and Omaha does have indoor plumbing too. (And gaming, sortakinda.)

Laughlin is not really a bad place. I've been there a few times and
enjoyed it, but it's much smaller than Las Vegas and by virtue of that,
the choice of things to do (other than gaming) will be smaller.

>Again, the Laughlin side trip is really dependent upon whether the

I think the stimulus for this idea was the Edwards Twins show, and yes,
this will most likely be the determining factor regarding the demand
for such a side trip, unless people just want a break from Las Vegas
and wanna go someplace else for part of a day.

Sleep:

>Isn't it wonderful!

Uh-huh, it is! :)

Looking at the activity database for 2004, we had 45 activities that
were "scheduled", meaning 45 detail lines on the final schedule.

Many of them were trivial (just show up someplace) and some were
duplicates, meaning each daily LW(o)G had an entry, and a happy hour
and dinner at the same location would have one entry for each.

However, about 20 of them were nontrivial, meaning they required some
kind of effort to make them happen, other than saying "just show up
here" at a certain time.

As for sleep ... that's something you need to do on your own time. :)

But seriously, our people, myself included, tend to OD at DLV and get
more and more tired as the week progresses. Everybody needs to set their
own limits, and everybody will, either voluntarily or involuntary. We
find ourselves getting up later and later in the morning, or at least
some of us do. :)

I envision the number and scope of DLV activities increasing over the
next years. I think we'll see more multi-tracking during the day, and
even in the evening. I see the schedule getting fuller and richer.

We're already starting to see some reaction to the level of scheduling,
the first manifestation of it being the call to have less-intense
evening activities prior to golf.

Each person is, however, going to have to set his/her own limits, and
in many cases may have to make some difficult choices based on his or
her desire and energy level.

It might be a good idea to add a sentence or two about rest and sleep in
the LFM, reiterating that it's never been our intention to have
somenbody do *everything* on the schedule.

Ok, if the test4 colors are the ones you want, I'll clean that one up.

I will re-do the text completely, as the one you saw is 72dpi for the
web. The text will be much smoother if I re-do it at 300dpi. I'll clean
the artwork semiautomatically and remove the pink background. I should
have you a clean copy by the end of the week. I will print it out at
300dpi and eyeball it before sending you a final copy. You can then
print it out yourself and double-check it.

Let me give you a modified graphic with the DLV 2004 dates on the
bottom, kind of like we used to have. This can be in addition to the
generic one.

Do you *really* think the thong will sell? :)

If so, any of the graphics can be reduced as needed.

I see you also have a green shirt in there. Let me sample the color and
see how the logo will look against that. Actually, I think I like that
green one better than the pink one.

This looks fine, thanks. As soon as you are ready we can post the link
on the web and announce it in the next general mailing.
