Can we tawk:
It was noted in our note to ebabz/YS that we've placed Opal's
registration on hold. We actually have not done anything to it as of
this time.
It was suggested to me that we place her registration in a suspended
state, so as not to receive the LFM and such, until somebody from their
"organization" responds.
Before I do it, or anything, I want to have a clear consensus of the
group here. I see two ways of doing this.
First is to run the "suspend" script on her registration. This will
result in a "Registration XXXXXXXXXX-YYYYY has been suspended, please
contact dlv@geekbabe.com for further information." note to be sent to
the e-mail address on that registration.
Second is to simply go into the tables using SQL and set the appropriate
field. This will suspend the registration, but will not send out any
notice.
Comments???

One thing I do want to be sure of, regarding any action we take, is that
we don't end up looking like jerks to the Teeming Millions. In any
net.dispute, anything you say (in e-mail or snailmail) can and will be
used against you. It's not that unusual for sites to post various things
like cease and desist notices in public, and ignore them with impunity.

Legal action:
Jena writes:

Here's more or less the way that conversation went with the attorney ...
A: So, you're saying both civil and criminal penalties ...
M: Yes.
A: What action can we take that would have some teeth in it?
M: ha-ha Have fun! Not much. Would cost far more than you would recover.
IMAO, it's not worth the money and effort if they want to be jerks and
keep the logo and link active. I think a technical solution to render
the link ineffective would be better.

Saturday, uh, fun:

Yes, I agree. :)

I think your opinion is shared by the vast majority of the ORG people
here. In fact, I have not heard one opinion in favor of putting the
party on the schedule.

Link redirection games:
>>If this should not be effective, we can block the link (do something
>>like redirect any referrals from that page to www.fbi.gov or
>>something) by a bit of programming, rendering it ineffective.
>Is it possible to redirect online traffic to another site...
>without ...either of the two sites knowing who did the redirecting?
Yes and no. It will be very obvious to anybody if a link ends up at a
page other than the one intended. It will be very obvious to the
referring site that we are intercepting the link and redirecting. All
they have to do is click on the link. When they manually type the same
URL into their browser, it will of course bring up the proper page.
The techies at the site that the user ultimately ends up at may or may
not see who is doing the dirty work depending on how the user's browser
handles the HTTP_REFERER parameter in a case of a zero-time forced
refresh to an alternate site.
I'm thinking of something along the line of redirecting the hits that
come from ebabz.com to www.wctu.org if anybody knows what that is. :)

FOUND IT ... a typo in the listing:
Ok, me bad! >>SLAP!<<
Yvonne reported a typo of mine.
Correct URL for activity the sign-up summary is:
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/dlvmaster.txt
I was running on fumes when I wrote that. I've had some very odd hours
due to some upgrades that we're doing that have to be done at 0-dark-30
so I wrote in the wrong path name.
When Yvonne reported it, I looked at it and didn't even notice that it
was obviously wrong! :) :(
If anybody really cares, org04 is the name of the directory on the big
machine for the dlvorg stuff, and org04arc is the name of the directory
on the web server that holds the ORG list archives and other related
stuff.

Champagne, of course! Also maybe some vodka/sour mix, but I'll go with
the flow as long as it's not Galiano [sic] or parts cleaner or dimethyl
hydrazine or anything nasty.
