Things coming up shortly:
The next big item coming up is activity sign-up.
This is scheduled to start April 1, and in order for this to happen, we
need details to be solid on each activity that requires a hoop-jump or
sign-up.
The drop-dead date for sign-up details is Wednesday, March 31, which is
2 weeks from today.
As I've said, prior to April 1, it's very easy to add or edit these
things. After April 1, very difficult.

Most all who have registered within the past couple weeks have been
total newbees, never attended, and not on the mailing list. As you will
notice, we do have several who are not responding to the validation
e-mail. One of them is a case of undeliverable mail, and I will try
to match this with names on our mailing list, in case it's a typo or
something simple.
Here are where our newbees are coming from this year, from the "where
did you hear about DLV" on the registration:

As you see, a very good scatter to our referrals, with personal and

Time to test:
I would like to ask for some help in shaking down our activity sign-up
process. If you would like to help, please go to the URL:
http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/dlv/dlv2004hc.cgi?12345-67890
Please look for both obvious grammatical, spelling, ergonomic errors,
etc., and any technical errors as well. If you get an error message,
please do a cut-paste of the error message and send it to me.
Go ahead and sign me up for anything and everything. :)
The activity information is not complete, so don't worry if some details
on the activity descriptions are missing, but if anything's grossly in
error, please let me know. TIA! :)

Saturday evening:
I'm getting just a wee bit concerned about our Saturday schedule. Cagle
still has not responded (I resent to him) and I've heard rumblings that
the situation over at Tramps is not very stable.
I'm also trying to confirm that there is indeed a stable RHPS
performance in Las Vegas at this time.
Anybody local in contact with Michael Cagle?
Anybody local care to comment about Tramps status?
Anybody local know anything about the RHPS situation?
Currently I'm counting 62 plus 12 SO's for a total of 74 who indicated
they will be departing after Saturday the 8th., with 6+ weeks to go.
Even with a significant no-show percentage we still will have a very
large group in town for Saturday evening.
I do think it might be a good idea to have a fallback plan for Saturday
evening, and even some solid plans for Happy Hour and perhaps a meal
no matter which way things go.
Comments? Ideas?

Hmmmm ... We will definitely miss you. I had you down in the "maybe"
column.
Ladies (gentlemen) if Dance Night is to happen, or at least to stay
on the schedule, we'll need somebody to coordinate it.
This is a very easy one. Just takes somebody to go on record as doing
it, setting the itinerary, with approval of the ORG group here, of
course, and agreeing to be there so our people will not think everybody
else bailed on them.

Thanks, Nora. This year we do expect to be able to give more accurate
real-world turnout counts, and we'll have this the week before DLV.

There ya go, Mindy! :)
Thanks for stepping forward on this one, Nora. I know Mindy appreciates
it as well as everybody who will be attending DLV.

I haven't been out on a large craft on Lake Mead, but my impression is
that it's not nearly as rocky as the coastal tours.
I know that people do sometimes get seasick on Lake Michigan tours, but
I haven't heard the same about Lake Mead.
It's my impression that this boat is more of a flat-bottom inland/river
type craft as opposed to a v-hull craft, and these do tend to be a lot
more stable.

I think I'll just put something like "modest admission fee at the door,
discounts may be available" in the descriptions. Thanks.
If you want you can send in a note when the coupons are on line and we
can send that out.

Thanks, Michelle.
I'm assuming that ST will be no sign-up, just show-up. Correct?
Please let us know about bowling as soon as you can. We'll need details
regarding where and how much by the end of the month if it is to happen.

Ok, consider it done.
I know a few of the Big Sister volunteers have stated they can handle
more than one, and I think that will work well in the cases of LS's
who do not need constant attention.
One other thing to consider is that there will be a certain number of
cancellations and no-shows. For the past 2 years, the actual show-up
percentage for what I call the "cold newcomer", meaning those who
register having never been on the mailing list or making contact before,
has been just a bit less than 40%. I'm hoping that with some pre-DLV
Big Sister attention, we can get that particular number up a bit.
I'm also aware of one BS volunteer in the past who was quite bummed
out when her designated LS was a no-show.
I also know of two (volunteers to be BS's) who are rooming together who
are considering doing kind of a tag-team thing with both LS's, so maybe
if we do get into a crunch we can have kind of a Big Sister Pool to
oversee a number of LS's.
Anyway, I'll get another notice out in this weekend's mailing. If you
think we need it, we can do (another) mailing to the returnees.
