Org List:
This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

A couple of very important items:
We are now 66 days out from DLV, and we need some help here, please.
We are in need of some volunteers to step forward to take over and/or
assist with some activities which are already scheduled. I ask
particularly those who are not currently coordinating a nontrivial
activity to please do so.
First, we have lost contact with one of our volunteers, Leah. Her mail
has bounced for some time and queries to some of the local people have
not indicated any recent contact.
This means that the Carluccio's dinner on Friday is in jeopardy and the
Hidden Woman Open House is in question.
We are in need of somebody, preferably local, to take over the
Carluccio's dinner coordination. I believe Leah has already made the
initial contact.
Anybody else in contact with the Hidden Woman folks? Last report was
that they wanted to rent a suite in the Sahara and do something like
last year.
We probably don't need a formal coordinator for Hidden Woman, but if
anybody has a relationship with them, it would be good. I will be
sending them a brief note asking if they still plan on attending, since
Leah was the one who was keeping primary contact with them.
. . . . .
Mindy is going to need some help WRT golf, tea, and the thrift shop
tour. See item below.
. . . . .
One other item where help will be appreciated is Big Sisters.
Although I'm not the one counting names (I only count the sign-ups via
the web) it's evident that the demand for Big Sisters will exceed the
supply of them. I'm asking everybody to please consider signing up as a
Big Sister volunteer. This has always been one of our strong points,
and I would like to see this continue. (If anybody is curious, I have
signed up as a BS volunteer myself. Many of the other volunteers have as
well.)

Latest laundry list:
First on the list, Carluccio's.
If the Carluccio's dinner is to happen, we need somebody to step forward
and volunteer to take over the project.
Monique, are things all set to go at the Hard Rock on Wednesday?
Michelle, Bowling. Still interested in taking this on? Going once.
Hidden Woman Open House. Anybody in contact with them? Going once.
Limo tour? Price? Does this include refreshments? Do you need additional
volunteers to handle refreshments? Any special payment arrangements?
Cutoff/deadlines?
Mindy, High Tea? How much? Where? Deadline for sign-ups?
Gina, Yvonne, Gun Show? How much? (Approximately, if you don't know for
sure.) I assume they just buy tickets at the door. Correct?
SO activities. Sandi, any news. Mindy, Diane, are you planning anything
for SO's this year? If so, we need to find the appropriate timeslots and
get them announced.

Limo timing:

I agree that we don't want a large group of our people simply standing
around for the sake of standing around.
I do have one major concern, however, about tightening the window
between the show and the limo tour, and that is restrooms. If time is
tight, they will be less apt to cooperate, and more likely to use the
closest ladies room in one large group, putting us at risk for an
incident.
In 2002 and 2003, despite admonitions to not do so, we had gaggles exit
the showroom and make a bee-line for the nearest ladies room.
That's really my only concern with this timing adjustment.

Mindy, we all wish you the best, and hope you're feeling better by
DLV time.
Ladies, gentlemen, we need some backup volunteers for these items.
Billie Lee? I have you down as a backup golf volunteer. Are you still
available to assist if needed?
We are gonna need some standby volunteers to help with the Pity Party,
the High Tea, and the Thrift Shop Tour if needed.

Yes, assuming we have more than one vehicle going to Rhyolite, which is
quite likely, as I'm not gonna suggest anything other than informal
carpooling, they would come in very handy.
Ditto for NSD, especially when we get near the area and some drivers may
need directions, but might not be comfortable stopping at a gas station
or convenience store. IIRC, there are no conspicuous signs pointing to
the cat houses.
Also might be handy for the drive to the boat trip, the shopping trips,
or any other carpool type activity.

Tootsye/Jamie? Comments?

Lake cruise, Fashion Show, roommates:
Diane writes:
>Afternoon Annie,
Uh, {looking at clock} yes, it is. :)
>Has the locale been decided for the Fashion show ? If it's to be at the
>Pity Party - I'd like to be part of it.
Mindy? Looks like you have another aspiring model here.
>I've written the Cruise company and asked:
>What type of discounts for our group are available & When a deposit
>would need to be filed
Thanks, Diane. Please let us know what you find out, plus what you
want to do WRT reservations and payments.
History has shown that turnout will be better if a pre-DLV hoop-jump
does not have to be made.
. . . . .
>So far have only received one {roommate} inquiry
>They mentioned they would like to share a room with a girl and didnt
>specify when they'd be there:
>I responded with an email w/ 2 questions when where they going to be
>there at DLV & did she mean a DLV girl or a GG
>- no response
That's really all you can do, Diane. If they don't respond, they can't
expect you to match them up.
I would assume that "girl" in this context means another attendee who
is M->F somewhere on the t* spectrum.
I would also suggest that you screen and match on a few hot-button
items, such as:
1. Smoking
2. Quiet hours
3. TV/radio habits
I listened to a lot of griping one year WRT items 1 and 2 above.
>maybe will get more when general registration starts
My hunch is that the last few weeks before DLV will be the busy time for
this, as hotels will be filling up and prices will be higher than they
are now.

The plot sickens:
Toward the end of last week our daily page hits increased from the usual
of about 250-350 or so (this is actual html page pulls, not including
the graphics and such) to 800-1000 per day. As I mentioned last week, a
lot of the referrals are coming from Yahoo groups.
Here are the Yahoo groups that are currently sending traffic our way:

At first I found some of this amusing, but I'm not exactly thrilled at
having our links appear in such things as "getlaidinvegas", "frenchslut"
and stuff like "femalebarebackgangbangextreme".
Even though the web traffic more than doubled during that period, the
amount of queries and mailing list joins has remained about the same.

+This is one of the older casinos in downtown Las Vegas. The crowd is
+somewhat earthy, but friendly - You see a lot of the same people there

:)
If you have ever been by this place, you will know why this is funny!
There is no way I'm gonna place this on a list I control of places to
recommend as t-friendly!
