This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Various items:

We need feedback on proposed plans for Wednesday and Saturday.

We have a proposal from Michael Cagle below which has options for both
and we don't want to leave those who have proposed shows (Michael and
Tushell) hanging.

Please read the Cagle item below, (re)read the Tushell item from last
week if necessary, and give us your thoughts and feelings as soon as
possible.
. . . . .

Some golf comments have come in. See below. Looks like most are in favor
of moving it to Thursday.
. . . . .

We now have our Big Sister Volunteer form on the web. If anybody would
like to volunteer as a Big Sister, please feel free to bring this up
on the web and check it out:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/bigsisvol.html

The three of you that we received volunteer info from (Mindy, Michelle,
Ginger) do not have to go back and fill this in. The BS coordinators
already have your information.

The main page for the Big Sister Program, which will now come up at
the last screen of registration, is:

The response to the calling for web sites was not what I hoped for at
all. :( Only one besides myself sent theirs in. I know many of you on
this list have personal web sites. Please hit REPLY and tell us to list
your web site on our list.

This *will* drive traffic to your site. I noticed on my personal
referral reports last Sunday that several hits appeared to originate
from various mail services that appear frequently on the DLV list.
. . . . .

There will not be a general mailing this Sunday unless time-sensitive
items are received before then. Next general mailing will be Feb. 1.

Michael Cagle Show for DLV:

We need feedback on this ASAP.

I can see this fitting either Wednesday or Saturday.

Kate, I would like to hear from you regarding what you think of continuing
your "Secretaries Night" at Tramps with the Michael Cagle show. I don't
see anything specific for after-dinner entertainment or other activities
prior to karaoke at Goodtimes. Such a show, as proposed by Michael, will
fit almost perfectly between the two.

Yes, this would involve one of our dreaded "moves" between dinner and
the show, but, IIRC, it's only a walk of about two city blocks (or one
"avenue block" :) between HRC and Tramps.

Only disadvantage I see of doing Michael Cagle on Wednesday is that he
would have less of a crowd than he would on Saturday.

Saturday would work too. Saturday is still wide open as of this time.
However, the more I think about it, the more I think that Michael would
want his own show, as opposed to being a "guest star" in Tushell's show.

Comments, Kate? Everybody?

Doves and San Remo assembly point:

Diane writes:

>Afternoon Annie,

Uh, (glancing at clock) g'morning. :)

>The "Night of the Soiled Doves" sounds interesting. I'll be there.

I will too. ... And so will about 100 others, I'm sure. :)

>I agree, the San Remo Rarking area is a good central meeting spot for
>events. Please add it to the description for the Boat Tour and the
>Shopping expedition on Wednesday.

Ok, consider it done. Last year it worked out quite well for the
assembly point for the various things.

I think it will work out well for a default meeting/staging area for
all or at least most of the carpool type things. We will have people
staying there, and it's (reasonably) convenient and easy to find for
those who are not.

Another good point to consider using it as an assembly point, and I
don't know how much this will really count for our people, is that it's
convenient to the MGM monorail station. The Monorail service is supposed
to start RSN, and may be an option for those staying at Sahara, IP, and
Bellagio to get to the things that take off from San Remo, as well as
those at the Sahara.

I think it's still up in the air as to what affect, if any, the new
monorail will have on local transportation for DLV.

Saturday show:

Aiko writes:

>>Is this (Bad Attitude's dinner-show proposal) what we wanna do for a
>>feature activity on Saturday evening

>Personally, I would rather have something on Saturday, rather than just
>let it wind down.

Well, I do agree that we should have something strong enough on Saturday
evening to, among other things, reinforce the Garden Party, which, IMAO,
is one of the activities where we want maximum turnout.

>This activity sounds like fun, and from Michael's
>note, it sounds like he can probably, be part of the program.

I thought of maybe writing to both Tushell and Michael, and maybe even
getting Tiny in the loop too, but I want to wait until we have more
details WRT the show, like what exactly it is, where, and, of course,
how much $$$$$.

(See note above.) I do, however, think that Michael would prefer to have
his own show, as opposed to being able to do 2-3 numbers between the
drag acts.

I'm also hoping for more feedback from (>>HINT<<) more of the ORG people
here regarding what they want for Saturday evening.

Golf and several things:

Ok, please let us know what works for Tea arrangements and we'll firm
that up on the schedule.

Ok, let's split the difference and call it 10:30 on Tuesday. :)

Everything indicates this will be a very popular activity.

Tuesday already has the boat tour and bowling, but I don't think there
will be much contention between any of them which could reduce the
overall participation, and having more options is a Good Thing<tm>.
. . . . .

>re: golf.. lets wait a couple of weeks to get some more feedback to see
>about the change to thursday..

I sent a note about this in last Sunday's general mailing.

Here are the comments that have come in so far, most to the Discussion
Forum, one separately:

+I would like to recommend that the golf tourney remain on friday. it is
+one of events that first caught my attention when i found the dlv site
+last year. my time is limited for attending, and friday works out best
+for me. fore...pauline
. . .

+Hi

+I have to say that I am VERY much in favour of moving the golf to top
+THURSDAY.

+Quite frankly I can't see very many people turning up if it is on
+Friday, given the activities planned for Thursday evening / Friday
+morning (eg Show, Limo Tour, Charles Bar).

+Last year I don't think I even got to bed before the scheduled starting
+time for the golf after going to Charles Bar.

+This is clearly going to impact some people but I agree with Mindy that
+I think the less demanding / attractive / tiring Wednesday night
+activities will allow / encourage more people to try out the golf.

+IMHO the golf is one of the relatively low risk "real world" activities
+at DLV and even if you're not a golfer, it is a good activity to try as
+a woman.

+Hugs Michelle
. . .

+For the past two years, I have wanted to do Mindy's golf activity, but
+have declined due to the late ending of the Thursday night activities.
+IMHO, if there is a change of date to Thursday morning, I believe there
+would be more Diva divots.

+Aiko
. . .

+Hi all,

+I'm going to try to change my vacation time to make Thursday available
+for DLV Golf. Wish me luck. Of course most of you know I called in
+sick last year just so I could play... and win the DLV Open :)

+Mindy, I have yet to team up with you, please allow me to to be a part
+of your foresome. Whatever day it's on... i'll be there. I may even
+change my registration to reflect it.

+Julie

Ok, I'll get this on the schedule and plan to put this on the sign-up
form as well.
. . . . .

>re: garden party.. come see what the backyard makeover looks like this

I don't think we will have any problem finding a volunteer to grill
stuff, either in advance or on the fly. Cook your own? :)

How about this:

Kate writes:

If somebody wants to take the initiative on this, I'll have no
objection.

We do have many testimonals going back several years. They are on the
discussion forums (jeez, an English professor would have a cow with my
use of that word) and in the mailing lists, mostly concentrated right
after DLV in various years.

Radios and gun shows:

Yvonne writes:

I hope Yvonne realizes that I edited that last line so this mailing
would not end up in everybody's junk folders. :)

>But anyway....

>Yes, I will be bringing the radios again.

Thanks. I can see a number of places where these will come in handy,
such as the Rhyolite trip, NSD side trip, limo tour, and maybe even
some others.

>Yes, I thought I was help to backup Gina (Glad to see you are back to
>attending DLV!!!) and will work also to backup Denise for the gun show
>on saturday.

Ok, thanks, got you on the list. :)
