Thanks, gang:

Thanks to everybody who helped shake down the registration system. I
think all of the major problems are gone now. Should be ready to go when
re-registration starts next month.

For those who get a validation thank-you before you send in a response,
that is me testing the manual validation function.

Historically, no, the "roommate wanted" announcements never exceeded 3-4
at any one time in any year.

I do think we've had a few cases of BS/LS rooming together, but those
were arranged outside of our roommate matching program.

For the most part, the Big Sister program is green field and if you (the
Big Sister coordinators) think roommate matching would be a good thing
to be included within it, it can happen. If not, it does not have to
happen.

One thing I don't think we need is room-share announcements that look
more like personal ads. <semi grin>

My big question remains ... do we need roommate matching? Do we want it?

Comments?

We do hope that things settle down and that you two will again be able
to make DLV in 2004. Think positive. :)

We do have a few SO's (not many though) who read this list. In the past,
any SO gathering has been singular. I know only one year was there any
significant turnout.

As I said, please think positive and keep us informed. Your input to us
as a SO who has stepped forward is valuable and appreciated, whether or
not you will be attending. Of course we do hope you can make it.

It was!

And so was 1998 ... and 1999 ... and 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 ... :)

One of these years, however, if only due to variance, it will decrease.

Good. I'll watch the logs here for the final one to you and I'll then
intervene.

I'm sure you're really interested in that. :)

Ok, I probably should have edited those out. I removed all of them from
the archived copy of this list.

You're not gonna believe this, but there is actually some commented-out
code in there that checks for this. Somebody wrote in back in 2001? and
said she wanted to be on both the driver and rider lists, having a car
but wanting rides to some things. It's been that way ever since.

San Remo always seems to get mixed reviews, both here and on the various
review sites. To be honest, I've never seen a San Remo room. I'm gonna
try to observe a few this coming year and see for myself what kind of
condition they are in. I have a feeling (due to the mixed reviews) that
some of them are nice and recently renovated, and others are badly
showing their age and the wear and tear.

The only arthropoda that should be in a hotel room are lobsters
delivered by room service, and it seems that for some reason there
are more reports of ants, crickets, etc. at the San Remo than at
other area hotels. (I took a look at some travel sites before I
wrote this response. Looks like a few of your examples came from
www.ratelasvegas.com, which is well respected.)

What concerns me more are the reports of indifference. In the hotels
where I've worked, reports of bugs were taken quite seriously and
always acted upon immediately. That's a major hot-button issue that
no GM or executive housekeeper wants to have happen.

There may be a grain of truth, or at least speculation, to the "about to
be torn down" comment. I've seen two threads on this in the newsfroups.
One is that the Tropicana will try to acquire the property to include it
in its big to-be-announced redevelopment effort. Another thought is that
the monorail extension to the airport (if it happens -- there are lotsa
people fighting that) would traverse what is now the San Remo. Who
knows? The Casino Death Watch isn't really predicting anything imminent.

If you (or anybody) have any comments about the San Remo (or any other
hotel) that you would like to make public, you might make a comment
and/or a rating at http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/ as the stuff
going out about hotels will refer to that page.
