Happy Holidays:
For the next 2 weeks, I'm gonna hold off sending out this list unless
there's something very important or time-sensitive. If anybody sends in
anything and wants it to go out earlier, please say so.
Let's plan on the next regular mailing of this list to be on January 7.
There is a rather large "kick off" general mailing (mostly
administrivia, everybody on this list has heard it all before :)
which is scheduled to go to the general list on Sunday, January 4,
which will be the first of the general mailings leading up to DLV 2004.
Thanks again for the help testing the registration functions. Everybody
who sent one in that looked like a for-real one should be all set up and
validated.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Year, gang! :)

I'm gonna let it go to the ORG as you sent it. I'm hoping the San Remo
fans will comment, and maybe Monique or somebody will pass it on to the
management at the SR, as this is not the treatment we want to see.
In particular, the use of the pronoun "it" bothers me. Where the use of
the pronoun of the incorrect gender often indicates ignorance or
oversight, the use of "it" indicates hostility.
>I will give the Board Walk a stay for DLV2004 since it sounds like we

We did have one very bad experience at the BW in 2002, and time will
tell if they are sincere about welcoming the t* community. They were
not nominated for our suggested hotels this year, but please give us
feedback on how you are treated and how the facilities are.
Again I say, I will believe the Boardwalk really wants our business when
one of our people receives a long-overdue apology for the way she was
treated there.
Once again I'll suggest that if you (or anybody) has opinions, good or
bad, on the San Remo or any other hotel (or any business), please make
a rating and/or comment on our Big List at:

Roommates:

Thanks, Diane. :)
Ok, how would you like to do this?
The one year we had somebody do this, we posted her e-mail address and
just said for those needing roommates to contact her.
The past several years we've had a "roommate clearing house" on the
announcement list.
It's really up to you, since you volunteered. If you want people to
contact you directly that's fine. If you don't want to post your
real e-mail address, we could set up some more generic e-mail address
such as roommate@geekbabe.com which would auto-forward to you.
We could do any variation of the above two methods if you like. Let us
know what you have in mind.
One thing I think we need to do if we're gonna have roommate matching
is to announce it as early in the game as possible. Therefore we should
have plans for it set so it can be announced in the January 4 mailing if
possible or as soon after that as practical.

The sad thing is, that if spamming were not profitable, it would die out
very quickly. If all users around the world would simply NEVER NEVER EVER
do business with a spammer, they would go away. Unfortunately enough
suckers keep buying to keep the practice alive. :(

Hmmmm ... now that I think back, I do believe there were tables. I
vaguely recall that the showroom was "remodeled" between 2002 and 2003,
and I'm sure that was more to get more bodies in it than to make it more
luxurious.

Last laugh:
When I sent out the last mailing, I waited a minute or so for it to show
up in my inbox, since I always file it in the archive folder and run the
script that creates the web version of same.
I waited ... and waited.
After a few minutes I looked at the mail logs. Yes, delivered to most of
the people on the list including me.
I then looked at the procmail log. (Procmail is a mail processor that
does such things as pre-sort mail into folders and such.) I then
realized that Spam Assassin, one of the spam filters we use here, had
flagged it as spam and procmail had then placed it in the "autospam"
folder.
Looking at the Spam Assassin headers:
+Subject: *****SPAM***** dlvorg Registration, roommates, Remo ...

It looks like phrases in the body of the message such as:
+>Here's one right in between "You can have a bigger penis" and "get your
+>meds here".
... caused the message to look just "spammy" enough to trigger Spam
Assassin to flag it as spam.
So ... if you did not receive a mailing on December 10, look in your junk
mail folder or view it on the web in the archives. :)
