Hotel vote results:

We have a winner! 6 of them! :)

As happened with our last vote, the 48 hour window was reset a couple
times just before it was to expire. Last vote was received 0901 CST
Monday and polls were closed a few minutes ago.

Vote totals are:

   Hotel For Against Abstain
   ----- --- ------- -------
1. Sahara 13 3 1
2. Comfort Inn 7 6 4
3. Bellagio 14 2 1
4. San Remo 9 7 1
5. Stratosphere 9 4 4
6. Imperial Palace 11 4 2

Therefore, our suggested hotels for DLV 2004 will be .....

All of the above! :)

A few comments ...

The group this year appears to favor multiple options. I might stretch
this to say that it looks like we favor spreading our people around.
You'll see below that there were a number of us who voted YES for all.

Each nominated hotel got multiple NO votes, showing that there is no one
property that everbody who voted likes.

This is the first year we've given suggestions of an upscale place and a
non-casino hotel. I think it's a Good Thing<tm> that we're doing both
this year. Choice is good. :)

Bellagio was nominated last year but failed. This year it passed with
quite a margin ... highest number of YES votes.

Raw votes appear below.

Thanks everybody. That's all the voting for a while. :)

Some comments:

I would like to respond to a few items that have been posted over on the
discussion forum, but I think it's more appropriate for me to respond
here, where the real discussion regarding the planning should be ...
especially anything that may result in a disagreement and further
discussion.

That area is a public forum, one click away from the main DLV page and
quite a few read it who are not on the ORG list.

Anyway ...

>As a reminder sisters, Saturday is NOT wide open...Sat. afternoon is
>the SBS Garden Party (which we all agreed was sacred for DLV)

Sorry, what I should have said was that Saturday *evening* is wide open.

All we have on the schedule so far for Sat evening is a yet-to-be-homed
happy hour and the maybe-RHPS, making it our prime open evening.
. . . . .

>Umm...I don't recall agreeing that this was sacred. I haven't been to
>it so I wouldn't know. However, if something is sponsored and on the
>schedule already, I wouldn't support any effort to remove it or
>two-track it without the consent of the sponsor.

I was the one who suggested that the Garden Party be "sacred", meaning
not two-tracked, since one of my goals for this coming DLV is maximum
overall participation.

We do a good job of getting people to Las Vegas, but it seems like we
never can get more than 1/2 of our people at any one place at any one
time.

The Garden Party is something that is out enough so the fulltime
and those who are avowedly soooooo mainstream should not feel
claustrophobic, but safe enough for those who are just coming out.

Besides, our people put a lot of effort into that activity, so we
should support it and make it all it can be.
. . . . .

>If we are going to have two show nites then we already have enough
>evenings where the shy are not going to get out with the group.

>Personally, I think we should doubletrack everything with a T-friendly
>environment. At least it's a known, safe place for the more timid.

I see two-tracking as something that can work, but something that
depends on many factors, one of them being, yes, the relative out-ness
of the primary activity.

IMAO, there's no reason to provide a "safer" alternative to such things
as Milano's, HRC, Goodtimes, the Garden Party, etc.

>Let's consider the whole as more and more first timers seem to be
>attending each year.

I think it might be a courtesy to have fallbacks for those who don't
want to do the primary activity for any of several reasons. Many don't
want to spend the $$$ for the show and the limo, and the idea of a "Pity
Party" might work, both for that reason, plus it might be less
intimidating for those who are newly-out.

A related recurring rhetorical question ... is DLV really an appropriate
choice for one's first public exposure? Comments? {grabbing can of worms
and walking toward can opener}
. . . . .

>Hmmm..... think we're reaching a point where we better vote (for next
>year) on how many activities we will have on every morning, afternoon,
>and evening throughout Diva. First come first served after that.

I don't think we need to have any hard and fast rules on how many
activities we have, or what we multi-track against, since the answer
to just about any of these items is "it depends".

There are very few activities, imao, that warrant the "sacred"
designation, those being the large low-cost general-interest social
things where we want to go for maximum bodies in one place. Examples
would be the Welcome Celebration, Annual Mixer, and the Garden Party,
which is, iirc, the only daytime activity that has ever had much of a
real crowd.

Anything at all commercial, special-interest, or high-cost, again, imao,
should be fair game for multi-tracking. (Some would rather sip tea than
drive through the desert, and other would rather shop for guns than shop
for unmentionables.)
. . . . .

And then there's the wedding thing. :)

Quite a bit of chatter and digression, but no concrete proposals or
volunteers to adopt the activity.

I have more questions about this than I have answers.

1. Is this for the general DLV audience? (IMAO, if not, it does not
belong on the schedule and should not cause any schedule adjustments to
accommodate it.)

2. Is this to be an "organized" activity, or just something like a theme
night where everybody just goes to a bar wearing bridesmaids dresses and
such? (I assume in this case that appropriate clerical garb would also
be acceptable. <vbfg>)

3. Is this supposed to be the feature activity of some evening, or
just a smaller optional thing?

4. Last but not least, who is coordinating this?

Comments?

Mailing and San Remo:

Monique writes:

>I think it is prudent to get off a general mailing with all the new
>updates to our general mail list prior to the holidays, but I'm sure
>you've thought of that already.

There is a general mailing scheduled for the end of November. The only
real update will be the hotel suggestions, unless there is anything
major happening between now and then.
. . . . .

>IMO, I think everything is pretty much covered except for one item,
>that's the show prior to the Limo Tour on Thursday. I've not seen any
>activity on this recently. Also, we need to think about any
>pre-payments, etc that need to be addressed if any.

I know that wheels are turning off line on both the limo and the show.
I'm sure that when more details are known they will be posted here.

There's been some chatter on the discussion forum about adding the
wedding reception thing to Thursday. As I've said over there, I think
Thursday is gonna be full enough as is, and if the wedding reception
happens, it might be better to choose another evening for it.
. . . . .

>On my end, during the holiday break, while we will not get a 'block
>room rate' at the San Remo, I've received multiple requests about
>blocking rooms on the same floor at the San Remo. I've held off on
>doing this until we all agreed upon firm dates for DLV'04. I will
>persue this during the holiday season and will report back once I know
>something positive.

If this is something you want to take on, I don't think there will be
any objection.

If there's a demand for it, yes, it would be a Good Thing<tm>, but I
assume for most DLV attendees, they are only in the room for such things
as sleeping and changing and such, and when they are the door is shut
and it doesn't matter if the others are next door or across the city.

Maybe I'm missing something here. :)
. . . . .

>There has also been requests from private emails to go to the
>Showgirls of Magic again for DLV'04. I open this up for discussion,
>but my thoughs are, if we do this, to do it early DLV and not the end
>of DLV. Comments?

Kate had brought this up earlier, and suggested the final Saturday, but
nothing has been said on it since. I see a couple other places where
this would fit.

Sunday evening is possible, but the attendance would not be optimal.

Tuesday evening is wide open. Nothing scheduled at all so far.

It could also be a second-track option to Karaoke on Wednesday.

They (SOM) are dark Monday, so that's out, and Thursday and Friday are
both solid already.

Now, all we need is for somebody to take the lead on this and make it
happen. If somebody speaks up, I have contact information for their
sales director.

We *do* need to plan something for Saturday. It looks like the idea
for a Big Bang has fizzled, so we need to be looking for something
that will be enjoyable, but not so enjoyable that those who have
to leave early will feel slighted. :)

Activity classification:

LeeAnna writes:

>>1:00pm Lunch with or without Ginger (Sahara buffet - MS)
>>5:00pm Happy Hour (Hamburger Mary's - MV)
>>6:00pm Dinner (Hamburger Mary's - MV)
>>8:00pm Welcome Celebration (Flex - SV)

>Ok, I give.... what does the MS, MV, and SV mean after the scheduled
>events???

SV = Safe Venue
MV = Major Venue
MS = Mainstream

Those are the activity classifications that are defined by the recently
adopted B/R/D policy. They overlap somewhat, but for most activities we
have scheduled so far they are clear. The notes are for our reference
and won't appear on the general mailing's copy of the schedule.

High Tea:

Jamie writes:

>Thursday is already full enough, in the afternoon. I will also interfere

This is mostly up to those who have volunteered to host(ess) this, (I'm
showing Mindy/Diane and Jennifer on record) although anybody can give
input and we (ORG group) do have the final say as to what goes on the
schedule.

My suggestion a while back was (and I've heard no response or chatter
on this for a while) is that the two (Mindy/Diane and Jennifer) combine
forces on one HT which works best for all involved.
