This mailing:
We're back on the normal schedule for mailing, at least for today. :)
If there's more discussion received about the B/R/D policy, or the
proposed motion, that will be expedited.
Please be watching for a special call for votes mailing on our combined
behavior/restroom/dress policy. That will be sent out shortly when it
appears the discussion on it has finished.

Another motion on the floor:
I (annie) would like to enter the following motion for consideration:
I'm hoping somebody out there agrees with me and seconds this motion
so we can advance it for discussion and consideration.
(begin motion)
This is a motion to establish two standing rules:
1. No DLV events or activities will be formally or informally planned or
scheduled to occur on Mothers Day (normally the second Sunday in May)
nor on the two days (Friday and Saturday) immediately preceding Mothers
Day.
2. Any motion to change the scheduled dates of a DLV timeframe by more
than 3 days will require a 2/3 majority to carry.
(3.) None of these provisions shall apply retroactively.
(end motion)
Item 1 covers the obvious, plus it considers those for whom Mothers Day
is a two-day or three-day event.
Item 2 raises the bar for rescheduling and discourages casual or
frivolous motions to reschedule. It does permit the schedule to be
changed, such as in cases of unforseen events or gross oversights,
assuming 2/3 agree. It does allow for simple extensions by majority.
Item 3 affirms that there is no intent to un-do what is currently
scheduled, making this motion forward-looking only.
Do we have a second to this motion? If so, discussion and consideration
may begin.

Sunday stuph:

Ok, thanks. I'll put 10:15 on the schedule.
I assume "casual to dressy" is the appropriate dress.

Ok, tea fans. We have a proposal on the floor for a tea on Sunday. Let's
hear some chatter from the infield! :)
>The tea, usually last about two hours, so for those that do the tea,
>they are probably not going to be hungry until late, read 8:00 or 9:00
>PM. But, a couple of drinks and some chips at HM might be a good place
>to hang out!
And remember ... not everybody has to do everything. :)
Looking at the schedule, it might be good to do Milano's on Sunday,
rather than Monday since that will likely be our lowest attendance day,
plus the fact that if there's a tea, some of the gang will not be
hungry, and Milano's does have limited seating. We could then move HM's
to Monday. Comments?

Lunch with Ginger on Sunday:
>>Ginger, will the daily Lunch With Or Without Ginger be with or without
>>Ginger on Sunday.
>Unless I can find a very late Saturday night flight or very early
>Sunday morning flight, Sunday lunch will likely be without Ginger. I'll

>early Monday morning snack with Ginger in the Sahara's Coffee Shop is
>more likely! If you haven't had their veggie burger with cottage cheese
>in the wee hours of the morning you haven't lived!
Thanks, Ginger. It may be a good idea to remove the Sunday lunch thing
if a chaperone with the DLV sign will not be there, since many of those
arriving will not know anybody by sight.
>Ginger (who's getting ready to leave for Pinkfest in Chicago and
>reminds you that there's still time for you to come too!)
Yes, still plenty of time, but it is getting very close, like tomorrow.

Tea, Sahara, policy:
Jennifer writes:
>Would there be enough people to support two High Tea's?
I don't know. HT is not really my thing, so I would probably skip both.
I'm sure there are others who can give a better opinion. I was under the
impression that there was a demand for such a tea on a real Sunday.
>I myself am planning to arrive midweek because of work and would miss
>Sunday's events.
>What has been the average attendance for the opening of Diva?
The past two years we've had good crowds for the first official DLV
evening, which has been Tuesday. My guess is maybe 30 or so at Flex
each year on that first evening.
>I had a wonderful time at the Sahara! I and my friends were treated
>very well and I was not aware of any issues that were negative there. I
>remember on several occasions the smiles and sincere welcome I felt from
>the staff.
Oh yes, I agree. Our money is definitely green there. :) :) :)
>It would be a very functional place to hold an event such High Tea.
>Elaborate no, but comfortable, yes. And I feel they would welcome us
>anywhere in the establishment.
Tea people, comments?
>Don't even dream of ash canning the behavior policy!
I'm not dreaming of doing so, but for it to be effective it does have to
be ratified by the group here. A policy that does not have the support
of the ORG group would be useless.
>In fact one real issue ought to be highly emphasized and that is our

>bathroom issue up towards the front of the policy for all to read as
>one of the first does and don'ts. Too many people regard this

Here's what the current plan is regarding restrooms, and I think that
this will ease your concern about people just skimming and missing
the important stuff.
The entire policy document (if ratified) will be available to all, but
will not be rammed down anybody's throat. Excerpts from it will be sent
in a challenge-response e-mail to those who register and in the LFM, but
yes, it is possible (probable, more like highly likely) for some people
to just blow it off.
What will be done, however, is that at check-in time, each person will
be given a brief one-page summary of behavior, restroom, and dress
issues, and asked (more like told) to read it there and now, prior to
actually checking in and getting the name badge. It's intentionally
limited to one page (and we did a lot of copyfitting to get it to fit)
and long enough to make the point, but brief enough to be digested in
about a minute and not exceed the attention span.
(And no, if anybody's wheels are turning, this will not be used as a
lead-in to handing a bale of dead trees to each particpiant at check-in,
as is done at the conventions. The Ad-Hoc Committee believed this was a
very appropriate sole exception to our otherwise paperless procedures.
One page, one page only, with full attention for one minute.)
The latest edit of the handout is at the URL:
http://www.drbbs.com/dmr/handout7.txt
The part that pertains to restrooms reads:
+Public restrooms:
+You are solely responsible to determine which restroom you will
+use, if any, and accept any consequences that may occur. Caution
+is strongly advised when using any public restroom.
+Any advice about use of a ladies restroom from DLV organizers or
+attendees is considered advisory only, and no authorization for
+use of is given nor implied.
+Entering a ladies rest room at any venue is considered high risk.
+Using a ladies rest room in a group is especially high risk and
+must be avoided. DLV organizers consider this act as your total
+lack of concern for others, who could suffer great embarrassment
+from your actions. This happened at the previous DLV.
>The entire document is valuable and a valid road map for new comers
>and a stern, but friendly reminder for the experienced.
We plan to replace the existing text of the b/r/d sections of the large
final mailing with the appropriate text from the policy, so yes, it will
be used as a roadmap for newcomers and a reminder for returnees.
