Org List:

This is the DLV 2004 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg@geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Motion carries:

Here's the results. Looks like the tribe has spoken ...

For: 12
Against: 3
Abstain: 9

Last vote was dated Sat, 18 Oct 2003 15:24:38 -0400 and polls were
closed Monday at 15:24:38 EDT. No late votes were discarded.

Raw votes appear below.

Therefore, DLV 2004 dates will now be Sunday, May 2 thru Saturday, May
8. The working schedule has now been extended to include Sunday. This
will be updated on the web site and announced in the October-November
general mailing.

If there are any other motions on the subject of timeframe, please put
them on the floor now. As I've said, I will be presenting a motion to
prevent things like this in the future, but I will again defer the floor
to others at this time. If no other motions regarding timeframe come in
within the next few days, I'm going to consider the topic closed and
send in the announcements to the various TG event web sites and such.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Extension items:

A few various things affected by the extension ...

Tootsye (and others), I've placed MCC on the schedule for Sunday
morning. What time should we announce for this?

Ginger, will the daily Lunch With Or Without Ginger be with or without
Ginger on Sunday? :)

High tea people, do we want to move High Tea to Sunday, or do we want
to schedule two teas, one for Sunday, another for Thursday?

All: What other activities do we want to have for Sunday? How about a
Pre-DLV thing at Flex that evening? (Galiano Challenge?) :)

Dinner at HM's on Sunday? I don't see HM's on the slate yet. HH before?

Behavior/dress/restroom policy:

Yes, another vote coming up. :)

We'll be taking a vote very shortly on whether to adopt or ash-can our
proposed policy which covers restroom/dress/behavior. This was drafted
by our ad-hoc committee last summer and previously placed on the floor
here for discussion in August.

If there's any more discussion regarding this, please do so. Going
twice ...

If anybody needs to review this, it's on line at:

http://www.drbbs.com/dmr/cpolicy.html

Personally, I'm in favor of adopting this. It's not ideal, I admit, but
it does give some very good guidelines for both organizers (that's us)
and for attendees regarding the three subjects.

Hotel thoughts:

Yes, yet another vote. :) :)

In about a month we'll call for votes on our suggested hotels. For those
new, here's the way this works. Hotels are nominated by us. In November,
we vote. Each person on the list gets one vote for or against each
nominated hotel. This answers the questions of if (do we suggest hotels
to our people?) how many hotels, and which properties do we suggest.

Each hotel that receives a majority of YES votes gets listed as one
of our suggested hotels.

Several nominations have been received, and nominations are still open.
Those nominated so far are:

(In order of nomination)

Sahara (multiple)
Comfort Inn (Gina)
Bellagio (Gina)
San Remo (multiple)
Stratosphere (Densie)

Any more? If so, get them in. Just reply to this message.

If there's any discussion about hotels, we need to get that covered
within the next month.

Some of my own thoughts of mine about the hotels and the process ...

Yes, I think we do need to suggest hotels. Those who are new will then
know which properties we know and think to be appropriate. Those who
want to be in the same hotel as others can know where the DLV people
will be, and those who want to keep some distance from the Teeming
Millions can do so by staying elsewhere.

A few thoughts on each of them and some others ...

Sahara: If the vote were held today, I would definitely vote yes on this
one, as I've stayed there for 4 of the 7 DLV's and have always been
happy, for the most part, by the way things turned out. It's not the
Waldorf, but quite adequate and very reasonable in price. No major
incidents have been reported.

Comfort Inn: I would also vote for this one, were the vote taken today,
due to the fact that I think there's a demand for a non-casino hotel,
one where our people, perhaps those who are a bit new to the public or a
bit shy, don't have to traverse a busy lobby/casino/arcade complex to
get to their cars.

Bellagio: I've never stayed there and probably never will. Too
expensive. I can, however, see an advantage to suggesting one upscale
property, as long as we continue to have midscale suggestions as well.

San Remo: I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, several of
our people love it. On the other hand there's the still-unanswered
question about full access to the facilities that are normally available
to other guests, a report of a very substandard room, and a report of a
rude desk person, which in all fairness could happen anywhere.

Stratosphere: I also have mixed feelings about this one. IMAO, as long
as we have 2 or more midscale hotels on our suggested list, we shouldn't
name more. Stratosphere, while generally regarded as a good value for
the money, is somewhat off the beaten path in an otherwise questionable
neighborhood. I would probably stay there if the price and circumstances
were right, but I would be hesitant to recommend it to somebody who is
new to Las Vegas and new to public exposure.

Imperial Palace has not been nominated yet. IP fans, please speak up and
nominate or forever hold it. We've had people at the IP since 1997 and
I've heard no major complaints. IP fans?

Boardwalk also has not been nominated. Mindy, anything to report? Fans
of the Boardwalk, please speak now or forever ...

Tropicana has not been nominated. Unfortunately the fate of the Trop is
unknown, and they are not accepting major bookings past April of 2004.
According to the Casino Death Watch, they will be announcing plans in
March. IMAO, we should not recommend a place that is this uncertain.

Comments, ladies? (Gentlemen?) Additional nominations?
