I was intending to have this on the evening that would have the LEAST
crowd, but do a no sign-up, just show-up thing, like we've always
done before. Yes, I know we've blown them away a few times, but they
don't seem to mind it.

I hate to go through the formality of a sign-up list for a place that
small and a meal that's so informal. (It might be a good idea, though,
to get a headcount in advance.)

>Maybe we could get them to set up some outdoor tables or
>something.

I don't know if that would be permitted by local health/zoning/permits
or whatever. Around here if a restaurant wants to serve meals in a
sidewalk area they have to jump thru all kinds of hoops.

Besides, iirc, there is not that much sidewalk space in front of the
place.

I figure that Sunday would be the best for Milano's, since the crowd
would be low and if there's a tea, those doing the tea probably would
not be hungry and would skip it.

Comments?

>>8:00pm Welcome Celebration (Flex or Spotlight)

>Make it Flex and we can do karaoke.

Good thought! Let me edit the schedule. We could then do Spotlight on
Sunday for the pre-DLV thing.

>>1:30pm Bowling (Bowling alley)

>Who is coordinating bowling?

Monique is.

>>Ev Secretaries Night (HRC)

>Tell me about this one again? What is it?

Uh, let's see. Iirc, it's supposed to be a theme night, kinda like Red
Shoe Night or Blonde Hair Night. Business attire and such. You can come
as a secretary on casual Friday. That's probably what I'm gonna do. :)

>>12:00m Rocky Horror Picture Show (Highly tentative)

>Any news on this?

Nope. I guess I could ask on the newsfroup. Anybody local know? Is Flex
(still) co-sponsoring this?

Mindy and Diane (Mindy's SO), and Jennifer are all on record for
volunteering to host(ess) a High Tea. Mindy and Diane were thinking of
using their house, which could be done any day, and there was also talk
of using Four Seasons or another hotel.

My suggestion a while back was that M&D and J combine efforts. Now that
we have a real Sunday, it would be possible at FS, but that day will be
the sparsest population of all DLV days, so it may be desirable to use
some other venue.

Oh, I'm very $ure that the catering $taff at the $ahara (or any other
La$ Vega$ hotel) would be willing to $erve high tea in a $uite or
$omething on any day of the week if you a$k nicely. :)

<digression> I don't know how long the Nascar thing will be around the
Sahara. The word on the net was that there were disputes between the
bigwigs of the Sahara and the people who ran the Nascar stuff.

Ok, let me change the dress suggestion to "casual recommended" or
something like that.

Yes, the more I think of it I think that is the way to do it. Consider
it done. :) Comments?

I'm sure they (Sahara) could never match the Four Seasons, but I'm sure
they have rooms that are nice, but not as elegant.

I'm not a HT person, so I should probably shut up on this, :) but what
I think needs to be done is for all of the HT fans to give their input
to Jennifer, Mindy, and Diane, and get all on the same page for this.

IMAO, having two teas would dilute each other in terms of headcount. I
think you (HT fans and hostesses) have to decide what is more important,
having it at FS, having it on Sunday, having a maximal turnout, etc.)
and coordinate efforts toward one tea that would be best for all ... if
not ideal, at least optimal.

This is, ultimately, the call of you and the others sponsoring the tour.

No more so far. Mindy? Hello? Testing 1 2 3? Going twice ... :)

I see golf as one factor to be considered when scheduling the limo tour,
but not necessarily one that trumps all others factors. (Sound
familiar?) We did agree to consider golf when planning the limo tour,
and as long as due consideration is given, I think we've met that
obligation.

Golfers? Limo fans? Comments??

Motion comments:

>I don't like the proposed motion at all.

Ok, so noted.

>It appears(?) to be asking to decide on three things with one vote.

Actually two. The parenthesized third point is to clarify that this will
not un-do the 2004 schedule if it carries.

The reason I combined the two was primarily due to the fact I get the
feeling that some of the group here are getting a bit weary of not only
the MD issue, but also the formality of the motions and the votes.

Anyway, short answer, I'm trying to kill two birds ...

>For example I (currently) personally disagree with 1 but agree with 2
>and 3.

Ok, if the motion should fail, you or anybody else is free to (re)
introduce one or the other. If it should fail, I'm not planning to
re-introduce any part of it.

>So is my understanding correct that this is a single motion on which we
>accept / reject all three parts or are each being voted on separately.

One motion, one vote, to establish two standing rules. Third part is
intended as a clarification.

(Motion text deleted. http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org04arc/0030.html)

>As for Item 1, I don't think we should place these types of constraints
>on the DLV dates in the future. Any constraints are bad but those that
>aren't necessary often lead to poor decision making.

Although I am the one who placed the motion on the floor, I agree with
you on the no constraints issue. My purpose is to call the question on
the Mothers Day issue, and make it either verboten for DLV planning, or
fair game for such, by majority vote.

If you remember, I've been very strongly against anything that would fix
the DLV timeframe in stone or set any constraints for it, other than it
being in Las Vegas sometime in the spring.

>I realise that some people have been upset by the inclusion of Mothers
>Day in next years schedule however I don't think we have established
>(beyond any reasonable doubt) that they form either a majority or in
>fact even a significant minority, and certainly we haven't enough
>indication to consider unilaterally avoiding the weekend in future.

For the record, Mothers Day, Sunday, May 9, is not part of the DLV
schedule. The two preceding days are. But ...

I don't really know how the majority feels on this. I really have no
clue as to how a secret vote on the issue would come out.

>Will this lead to other blackouts by (minority) groups:
>- Religious people wanting to avoid Easter
>- Casino workers wanting to avoid the bikers convention
>- Techo's wanting to avoid N+I week

Hopefully it will not. I have a feeling that if the MD motion should
fail, other motions of a similar nature would be likely to fail as
well.

All of the above are factors we must consider when planning DLV, along
with such things as the weather and yes, Mothers Day.

>As I've said before, Mothers Day is a consideration but by passing this
>item, we unilaterally make it the first and most important
>consideration. I don't think that is appropriate.

And that's what I want the group to decide. Is Mothers Day a special
case, and does it deserve considerations over all other factors? I want
the group's majority opinion on this.

>Item 2 is reasonable in that there should be a hurdle to jump to change
>previously, democratically arrived at decisions... in fact I wonder if
>the wording should be changed to reflect that any item previously voted
>on requires a 2/3rds majority to have it overturned.

I proposed/added item 2 for one main reason, and that is to prevent
a screaming of "Oh No, it's Mothers Day" in February or March or
something, and yet another round of debate and a late calling to
change the dates.

I don't wanna see anything as sweeping as a blanket 2/3 rule, since most
of our decisions are made by consensus and not by vote.

>Item 3 is somewhat superfluous, as we've decided on and reviewed next
>years dates and we're carrying on regardless. I suppose it it makes the
>whole thing clear to those that need complete clarity!

Yes, it is. It's intended as a clarification, so, should the motion carry,
nobody could interpret it as requiring a rescheduling of DLV 2004.

Any more comments, ladies? (Gentlemen?)
