This mailing - a double-booking:
We have a very large mailing this week, we've added a few more items to
the tentative schedule, and we have one oversight we need to deal with.
. . . . .
It appears that we're double-booked, so to speak, for volunteers to
host(ess) the High Tea.
When this was called to my attention I went back through all the
mailings very carefully. I think there's just a bit of confusion and
misunderstanding and we do have 9 months to work things out.
Here's what's going on:
Mindy and Diane are definitely on record as being first to volunteer to
host(ess) the High Tea. In the mailing on June 11 they volunteered to
do this, and volunteered their house as the venue.
Where I think the confusion is coming from is that in the following two
mailings there were comments to the effect that a hotel setting would be
preferred to a residence.
Jennifer is on record volunteering in the mailing of June 25.
There's quite a bit of High Tea discussion below.
Anyway, Jennifer, Mindy, others? What are your thoughts and feelings
regarding this? We still have about 9 months to plan, so nothing is
time-critical now.

Limo tour:

I see one possible scheduling item here. Goodtimes karaoke does not end
until after midnight. I would suggest something at least a couple hours
earlier for better interest and turnout.
I'll put it on the schedule for that timeslot, but I would suggest you
think about the timing. You could run it concurrently with Karaoke,
since not everybody does everything.
There's more on this from Tootsye below.
Paypal might be an option for prepayment, but not everybody uses it. I
do know one person in the ORG group who had a very bad experience with
Paypal a while back. I think that for the largest participation, an
option that allows payment at DLV would be a good idea.
Yes, I know no-show and fallout has been a problem. I really don't know
how to reduce it much. Prepayment (via snailmail or paypal or something)
could reduce the percentage of no-show (or in this case, no-pay) but it's
a hassle and will reduce overall turnout.
Maybe a variation on the theme, such as requiring newcomers (who do not
yet have a show-up record) to pay in advance and letting returnees
pay 24 hours in advance or something like that.

>accurate!
As Jennifer's note above (below) indicates, we've penciled it in for
Thursday. If we do extend, we can move that to Sunday.
We also need to resolve our double-booking issue here.
>If, it is accurate, then we need to schedule it on Sunday afternoon
>ordrop it all together! I am of the opinion that at least 20 or more of
>the girls would be interested in the High tea if it can be arranged!
Jennifer is going to check with places personally to see what can be
arranged.
Mindy and Diane have also volunteered their house.
The issue(s) with Sunday skirts the previously-thorny Mothers Day issue.
If we do extend, the Sunday of choice will most likely be May 2, and
therefore turnout would be suboptimal. If for some reason we *do* vote
to extend to Mothers Day, turnout may be suboptimal due to those leaving
due to Mothers Day.
>My personal preference is to have the tea at the same place on Sunday
>afternoon, but if that is not possible, I would like to have it on

My hunch is that if the demand (spelled $$$$$) is there, it will be
possible to find a suitable location to have it.

There's nothing scheduled for Thursday morning ... yet. :) Golf has been
on Friday the past few years, and Mindy has noted that she does not want
it after a late-nite boozy affair, so let's pencil in golf for Friday.

Yes, it is a DLV tradition. Let's get it on the calendar. Overflow at
Fatburger or something else in the area. I don't think Spotlight has
food. (Does Spotlight have food?)
> Tuesday, May 4:
...
> 5:00pm Happy Hour (TBD)Spotlight

Spotlight is a possibility, but we also have that on the slate for a
possibility for the monday evening Welcome Celebration as well.
Yes, very possible for a show on Tuesday. All we need is for somebody
to propose and adopt it.
> Wednesday, May 5:

Ok, I'll get that on the schedule. You are the organizer of record for
this one. We should probably set the venue for the prior HH for the HR
as well.
> Thursday, May 6:
{Show?}
{Limo Tour?}
Yes, we could do a show this evening. The limo people have requested
Wednesday. No law says the show and limo have to be married to each
other, just that we've always done it that way.
>Also, where does Golf fit in (still the traditional Friday morning, or

It's been Friday the past few years. We're gonna pencil it in on Friday
to hold the place, plus the limo people have requested Wednesday, so
there will not be a conflict between the two.

Well, we've decided that we want a big bang, but nobody's planned the
fireworks yet.
Yes, Goodtimes in the back might work, assuming they don't have any major
Saturday thing going. Flex would work, they have enough stage area
for a group.
Actually, any lounge or hall would work. The advantage to something like
Flex or Goodtimes is that they might be agreeable due to the increased
alcohol sales.
Due to the interest shown here, I've made a quick query as to how much
they want and any other conditions they have. I'll report back when some
numbers come in.

The limo people have requested Wednesday evening for their thing,
assuming golf would be Friday. I'm going to pencil in golf for Friday
due to this. We're still 9 months out, so if adjustments need to be
made, they can be.
>also we need to start the golf discussion list a little sooner this

The golf list is actually ready to go any time. It's still live from
last year. :)
In the past I've suggested holding off on the golf list until
registration begins, but if there's a need for it earlier, it can be
done.

Hopefully our people comply, and hopefully they (DR) will see that

>Ok... how about either Thursday or Friday at 4:00pm.
Let's pencil this in for Thursday then. One reason is that if food is
to be served as you state below, we don't want to spoil appetities for
the dinner that is scheduled (and reasonably solid) Friday evening.
Another is a note in the activity database that you (or somebody) had
suggested it as a prelude to a show, and it may very well be the case
that there will be a show on Thursday evening.
As is noted a couple other places, we're double-booked on this, and we
do need feedback from you, Mindy, and the others as to what kind of an
activity, and what kind of a venue, is desired.

The limo people have requested Wednesday. (Wednesday seems to be a very
popular day for some reason.) Remember that as of this time, everything
is in pencil, so changes can be made to optimize things.
It was my impression, please correct me if I am wrong, that Secretaries
Night was intended to be an alternative to the slut/fetish party. Am I
correct or mistaken on this?

I really think the climate during DLV is more dependent on luck than on
a +/- 1-2 weeks of scheduling. I only remember it being very hot once
during DLV, that being the very first one, in 1997, which happened in
the middle of May. The past few years we've had what I remember as
warm days and cool evenings. Now if we could only do something about
the wind! :)

Another idea might be have a "slut" party as a prelude to RHPS. Back in
the 80's we used to have Pre-RHPS parties starting about 10:00pm or so,
then do RHPS, and then terrorize the normals at Big Boy or IHOP. :)

I really don't have any idea of what this nun thing is really about. I

Late Night Catechism once. :)

>the org and disc group... for dress and behavior may be negative to

Let's see, how do I put this ...
I don't know. I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, DLV has always been based on reality and not fantasy, and
the one thing that we keep hearing over and over is that our people
enjoy the real-world experiences they get at DLV.
On the other hand, I don't think we need to constrain what we plan for
DLV, as long as it's legal, not overtly sexual, and done in appropriate
places and under appropriate circumstances.
<digressing>
I think there's still some misunderstanding of this whole issue of dress
and behavior and image and such. I don't see anything as changing. I
don't see anything that precludes such things as a fantasy or
role-playing activity if that's what our people want to plan and it's
done appropriately. In fact, as I've been saying, I would hate to be the
one planning any activity opposite to a "slut party" since I think it
would be very popular activity and would draw the majority of our
people.
</digressing>
Let's see what the gang thinks of this. Comments?
