We're off to a very good start, gang! Lots of enthusiasm this early in
the cycle.

This mailing is long, but it has quite a few good ideas and valid
points. It contains all ORG stuff received as of this time. If you
send something in and don't see it here, please let me know.

Thanks to everybody who has volunteered for various things and to
those who have sent in activity suggestions. If you look at the way
our activity list sits now, we have a very good mix of old favorites,
and some new and very different ones.

Please keep those cards and letters coming. :)

Various activities:

Densie writes:

Commercial, afternoon or evening cruise. Diane sent in the details
and they appear below.

>serious about that.

I was afraid of that. :)

>>I'm putting the side trip to Rhyolite on the proposed list. This *WILL*

Hey, you were the one who came up with that rusty bicycle thing ...

I was there several years ago, during the restoration of the bottle house,
and did enjoy it.

Flex has always been a good time, and as with you it's been a place I've
sometimes chosen to go to even though I had endless options. The regular
crowds at both Goodtimes and Freezone seem very congenial.

>and we even got to meet someone who was PO'd because she never heard
>back about their DLV registration. ;)

Oh yes. I know who this is. I was in the process of following up to see
where the process broke down when she sent me a very p*ssy FOAD message,
so I said the hell with it and didn't investigate further.

From what I see, it was obvious that she did not read the instructions
and did not follow the registration procedure.

If somebody wants to contact her and patch things up, be my guest, but
we've got 100+ appreciative people that I would rather turn my attention
to. :)

>>No, Densie, you don't smell a rubber chicken baking! :) :) :)

>I would make you eat it this time. ;)

LOL

>>Hmmmm ... who was it who said that they paid for the trip with their

>It couldn't have been us. We still haven't filed yet.

So, does that mean we have to visit you in Leavenworth? :)

>>>d. Would it be possible to get/find a non denominational church service

>>And some people might not think you're serious on [the Galliano

>We'll have to straighten them out on this. I am serious, and it will
>happen. I will bring a bottle of Galiano.

I'll take the Galiano [sic] Challenge for real this time. Maybe Margeth
will be there, cuz she's the expert on that topic. :)

Hey, Galiano is part of the heritage of DLV, and even though it's 144,
it does bring back memories. (Not all of them pleasant.)

>I'm serious about the skydiving too, we just haven't had too may takers

I know you are. There's no {expletive}ing way I'm jumping out of a plane,
but I'll watch and take pictures, and even drive a vehicle to the pick
up area if necessary.

Carluccio's:

And we thank you! That's gonna be a goodie again, I can tell. Very
highly rated for both enjoyment and comfort.

I'm sure our people will love to check it out next DLV, either by
themselves or on a shopping activity.
. . . . .

>Just an aside note...... a bit of LV history was lost last nite when
>the Moulin Rouge burned down. They had just started renovations on it

:( :(

I'm very sad to hear this. :( I was hoping they would eventually restore
and reopen it. :( I actually took the Mt Charleston people by there on
the way back, curious as to if anything was happening. There were some
signs of activity there, but this was Sunday so it was not obvious what
was going on. The casino building itself looked like it was in decent
shape, and I know they have been renting out the hotel rooms as
apartments for some time now.

For those listening in, the Moulin Rouge was the first integrated casino
in the area and was a very classy place in its heyday. It was also known
as a discreet after-hours hangout for the Rat Pack people and other big
name performers on the Strip.

Although it had a very sporadic open/closed cycle, I think it stayed
open into the 80's before it went bankrupt. There were several attempts
to renovate and reopen it, including one by Bob Stupak of Vegas World
and Stratosphere fame. None of them ever went full-cycle and I guess the
never will now. :(

Mindy's idea:

(This was redirected to the ORG list)

Mindy writes:

Thanks, Mindy.

My only suggestion here is that if there is a slut/fetish activity, it
not be two-tracked against something very popular like a show/limo
evening. I think it would have the appeal to be the primary evening
activity, and would generate an exceptional turnout.

It's inexpensive, in a safe venue, and does not require a prepayment
or hoop jump, plus it has a theme that I think would go over very well.

I would hate to be the one coordinating something (like a show or limo
tour) opposite it. I know there's a lot of enthusiasm for the limo
tour this year.

{grabbing can of worms, walking toward can opener ...} I also hope
people would use some restraint and not go directly from this to other
more mainstream venues wearing their over-the-top finery. :)

Thanks Tootsye, I'll get you marked down on that.

For those of you who don't know of MCC, Metropolitan Community Church is
a Protestant Christian church whose membership is usually 90%+ GLBT. As
the name might imply, these are usually found in the larger cities.

I'm sure any group of DLV people, large or small, would be welcome at
the Las Vegas MCC for services or any of their functions.

The only problem I see with this might be with scheduling. It may be
that DLV ends on Saturday this coming year, so this may have to be an
option for those staying over or coming early (or both).

>Please be aware that we did not volunteer for the Limo tour because we
>did not enjoy it! Quite the contrary, we volunteered because we did
>enjoy it so.

Oh yes, I understand completely. :) People don't usually volunteer to
coordinate things they did not enjoy. :)

I would still like to hear your ideas for dealing with the drop-outs.
I shiver with antici ... ... {say it} PATION!

Activity volunteer:

Monique writes:

>Go ahead and put me down as organizer for Carlicco's and the HRC Dinner
>should we chose those as DVL'04 activities.

Thanks, Monique.

I'll put you down for the Hard Rock Cafe dinner. Leah beat you to the
Carluccio's one unless you want to wrestle her for the honor, which
would be quite an activity in itself.

>I want to add another possible activity I belive Tina mentioned in the
>early DLV'03ORG days...'Bowling'. I think this would be fun.

That was tentative but never scheduled. I'll add this to the proposed
list. Are you volunteering to organize this one?

>I also noticed that Golf was not in the activities - an oversight?

No oversight. Nobody has suggested or volunteered for it yet. I'll
get that on the list.

Will Mindy do this one again?

Mindy?

>Please include the Southern Belle Society gathering (maybe another
>Garden Party or something similar). Mindy (LV) and I would be
>co-organizers of this activity.

I'll add a Garden Party to the proposed list.

Although Mindy and Diane will have the final say on how their house
will be used, there are now three proposals on the table which mention
her house.

1. Mindy's suggestion for a "Pity Party" to two-track against the
non-Saturday show and limo tour.

2. Suggestion in feedback of a slut/fetish party at Mindy's. There
was a note that SBS should co-sponsor this. :) (Really)

3. Your suggestion of a garden party or similar type thing.

I don't want to wear out our welcome at Mindy's.

I've also made some comments on Mindy's notes in this mailing.

I just think it's worth trying to build up to maximum headcount rather
than to have the maximum headcount in the middle of the event. Although
I did enjoy the Sunday activities, there was somewhat of an anti-climax
there this year.

I'm sure the San Remo fans will respond to this. If that happened to
me, I would have insisted on another room. :(

I have never seen a room there (nor at DelMar) so I can't comment on
that, but on Sunday of DLV I was kind of marking time in the casino
playing slots and I turned down far more drinks offers than I drank,
since I was driving, and since I didn't wanna be stopping at every 7-11
between SR and Mt. Charleston.

I didn't eat in the restaurant, but the buffet is very OK. Nothing to
go out of your way for, but definitely ok. About the same quality as
the Sahara buffet, but far less variety.

Actually, with the big bang on Saturday, I was thinking that DLV would
officially start on Monday, and that road trip to Rhyolite would be
an official DLV activity on Monday morning and afternoon.

>Also, I would like to suggest something a bit different for DLV'04, a

Again, I would assume we would do Mon-Sat with Sunday on either end

Our next general mailing goes out at the end of this month, and we could
do either an e-mail survey or on-line survey, but I have a feeling this
far out, the response rate will be low and the results will be
meaningless.

I think a better guess can be achieved by looking at the numbers we
had in 2003.

We had 9 reports on the survey from people staying at the San Remo.
(All rated this 5.0 for comfort, btw.) If we use the response rate
of 50% for the survey, this extrapolates to 18 people who stayed
at the San Remo this time.

If we assume a 20% increase to this, due to our growth plus a good room
rate as a magnet to get them to the San Remo, that would mean that there
would be a practical minimum of 22 people at the San Remo, or about 1/4
of our people.

That's minimum. With hyping and good rates, I can see 30-50% going for
it.

However, there has been an issue raised (see above, or below, I don't
know which order the digestifier will put these) about the room quality
at the San Remo. Perhaps the San Remo fans would care to comment on
that.

Yes, this can be an issue. We've seen this at DLV already. I would like
to make two comments.

A Big Sister is a Big Sister, and not a babysitter. A Big Sister can't
be asked to spend 100% of her vacation taking care of her Little Sister.
There are cases where the Little Sister may have to let go of the apron
strings and go off on her own to some things. There are, however, many
surrogate Big Sisters who can help support as needed.

When a Big Sister accepts the responsibility of having a Little Sister,
she should be willing to make some reasonable adjustments in what she
wants to do, in order to fulfill her duties as a Big Sister.

>In any case put me down as a volunteer.

Done!

>By the way who am I talking to?

You are talking to all of the DLV volunteer organizers. Most everything
that comes in to the dlvorg@geekbabe.com address will get digestified
and sent out to this list.

Your list moderator is Annie. I've met you. :)

Activities 2004:

Kate writes:

>I think the mix was ok this year and if we add more mainstream stuff we
>should keep the alternate spots on the schedule or as a backup in some
>way.

Don't worry. The large gatherings at Goodtimes and such are not going
away.

I also think we should consider a second-track alternative against some
mainstream things that some may be uneasy doing. The HM thing against
the show had a good turnout, from what I hear, and Mindy has proposed a
"Pity Party" against the show next year. These are examples of what
can be done to maximize overall turnout.

>Being quite new to DLV'ing last year I found the opening night at flex
>to be an easier one for me than a debut in the limelight would have

>been at a mainstream spot.

You are not the only one who wants to keep these activities in places
where all of us can enjoy them. It's well established that the majority
of our people like these things where they are.

If I may speak freely, it's my opinion that some of those who are
pushing to move these, or those who claim to be "too mainstream" for
these places, have their own personal reasons for wanting to do so,
which would not benefit DLV as a whole.

Things like the Welcome Celebration and Annual Mixer ain't broke!
There's no need to fix them!

>It was a great way to meet others in a relaxed atmosphere and it will
>likely be the same way for other future "slightly aprehensive girls"
>too.

These things are intended for just that, to get to know the newcomers,
to meet new friends, to catch up with old friends, and to have a good
time doing it. And yes, one purpose is to provide a nonthreatening
atmosphere for those who are new to DLV and just coming out in general.

Flex (and Goodtimes and Spotlight) should not be boring or uninteresting
to anybody who enjoys meeting and socializing with the others, including
the newcomers.

As stated above, Flex has been noted as a destination of choice even by
those who clearly have the option to go to anything else within Las
Vegas.

>I thought the addition of a variety of booze in the Limo was great and

Ok, the limo volunteers are all on this list, so they can take this
as a suggestion for the coming year's trip. There's also a concern
about providing booze that appears later (I think) in this mailing.

I don't know. Let's throw that question out to the group here and see
what various people would like.

I would say that any of the afternoon cruises or even the early dinner
one would get the best turnout.

I understand your concern. However, moving it earlier than the first
full week of May will lock out one of our long-time people who comes
from overseas and has to do DLV and N+I on one plane ticket. There has
been a concern that we're too close to Mothers Day if we run that
week as well.

The dates of DLV may come down to a vote among us if we don't reach a
clear consensus in the next month or so.

This is something I haven't thought of, and I know this has not been
brought up at all in the past. (IANAL, nor do I play one on line.)
One alternative might be to have the limo $ervice $tock the limo$
