What we want:

We have about a week left to discuss what we want on Wednesday evening.

We have a number of suggestions to discuss and consider. There is some
disagreement, and it is ok to agree to disagree, as long as we respect
the person and respect that person's opinion.
. . . . .

I would like to throw some higher-level questions out to the group:

First, what it is we want?

. Do we want a combined happy hour and dinner, or happy hour in one
place and dinner in another with that vile "move" between them?

. Do we want the entire group to eat in one place, or do we want to
split up the group?

. Do we want to plan some kind of postprandial activity or
entertainment, to replace what we had planned for at Sasha's?

And second, where we want it?

. Do we want a sit-down restaurant, a buffet, a hotel banquet room
(OMDB), or what?

. What scale of facility, which of course implies price range?
. . . . .

I would like to see a happy hour and dinner, in one place that is
selected in order to facilitate an optimal turnout.

I would like to see it in a place that is nonthreatening to newcomers,
but one that has an atmosphere that all can enjoy.

I would like to see it be reasonable in price. The higher the price,
the higher the fallout factor.

I would like to see at least a moderate choice of entree be available,
and a variety of cuisine that will cover most tastes. The fewer choices
or the concentration of choices means more fallout.
. . . . .

We have some viable suggestions and proposals on the table.

Let's plan to take all serious proposals (serious means having or
implying somebody as a volunteer coordinator) and vote amongst them
next Wednesday.

If a clear consensus is reached prior to Wednesday, we can skip the
voting if there are no objections. If there's disagreement, we decide
by vote.

So, let's hear some chatter from the infield, gang. :)

Please keep us informed on this, Cat. If I don't hear anything by about
a week before DLV, I'll scratch the item.

Din-din on Wed:

Kate writes:

>Also It seems there are a few pro's and con's for HRC so what about

My preference is to not OD on any one place for DLV. I know we have
HM on the schedule twice, but Club Girl Talk moved there after we
had HM already scheduled for the Tuesday dinner.

>I don't know know Vegas as well as the locals but if we are looking for
>a T friendly place in the mainstream maybe this would be right for us.

There are many places in Las Vegas that are t-friendly. It's good
business to be t-friendly. I think the HRC is viable, although it may
not be the best. Cat has two more, probably three. There are also a few
more ideas, some general, some specific, being tossed around. I think we
will find a good replacement for at least the HH and dinner parts of the
Sasha's evening without repeating anything.

Sounds like you had a good time both times. :)

To maximize the participation, to minimize the fallout, we need to have
the perception of a nonthreatening environment.

Sasha's gave that perception, despite some reports that appeared here
recently.

IMAO, HRCafe will be perceived as far less threatening than HRCasino,
even though HRCafe is not as nonthreatening as Sasha's.

I don't know about Cat's other restaurants, but I would assume they
would be, to a newbee, more threatening than a place like Sasha's and
less threatening than HRCasino, or any other casino.

The higher the price is, the more fallout there will be due to price
alone.

Carluccio's is $20. Sasha's was to be about the same. I do agree that
$25 should be our target max here. Yes, some entrees are worth more, and
some places are worth more for the atmosphere and service, but I think
that if we go above a stated price of $25, that is the point at which
fallout will occur.

>Thanks for your input and feedback. It's really appreciated Sis :)

Another suggestion:

>How about that restaurant right next to Leona's shop? They say it's
>good.

Which restaurant? I know of 3. Tony Roma's, Marie Calenders, and a
German restaurant in the same strip mall. A group from DLV 1999 ate at
Tony Roma's with no trouble, and I took a friend there once, again
with no problems.

I'm sure all of those in the area get some traffic from the customers
of HW.

ObTrivia: Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal's car was firebombed in the parking
lot outside what is now Tony Roma's, next door to the Hidden Woman.
