Mannerism workshop(s):
I think we need to continue with our discussion on what we want to do
with Aiko's idea of the mannerism workshop. We now have two proposals on
the table, as indicated in a response she received ...
Aiko writes:
>Received this from GB today.
+This sounds wonderful sweetie. I was in the pageant
+systems for a long time

+this sounds great I am figuring $10 per person if
+you can send me a list of

+give to us before we start. I need at least 10
+people to do this.

+Stephanie Williams
+Glamour Boutique
. . . . .
We now have two proposals on the table:
1. Leona at Hidden Woman, a free add-on to the HW Open House.
2. Steph at Glamour Boutique, a paid session, most likely at a time
other than an open house.
I'd like to open up the floor for comments about selecting one proposal,
or offering both.
I'll offer my comments now, and although there's nothing here that I
would not say directly to the people involved, I'm going to speak very
freely so I do ask that this stay within the org group.
I think both Leona and Steph are well qualified to offer such a session,
but their personalities and styles are so different that the sessions
would be totally dissimilar, even though they may cover exactly the
same material.
Each of the two have their strong points and their shortcomings.
I envision such a session at HW as more like a charm school where
everybody gets an A. Leona does have a very good eye for what works
and what does not work. I think she would be less likely, however,
to offer blunt constructive criticism. That's her style.
I envision such a session with Steph at GB as more like a session at
femininity boot camp. (I'm not saying this is a Bad Thing<tm>.) She has
a very strong personality, is brutally honest, and will not tell
somebody she looks nice unless in her opinion she really *does* look
nice. That's her style. She also has a very good eye for what works and
what does not work.
It's been my observation that both shops have their diehard fans. It
appears to be rare that people are neutral their preference. They seem
to prefer one or the other, but there's very little negative said about
either. It seems that people find one or the other a better fit to their
personality and needs.
I've patronized both shops, and had a makeover session at both. I was
happy with the results of both, although the styles were totally
different. In both cases, people from the DLV group did not recognize
me. :) If I had to recommend one or the other to any one person (for a
makeover) I would most likely steer those wanting an everyday look to HW
and those wanting a transformation to GB.
I'm sure there are lots of comments out there, let's hear them. :)

Jubilee show time:
Aiko writes:
>If we decide to go for Jubilee as the production show, let's get some

Ok, consider the discussion started ...
>There is a show at 7:30 p.m. and at 10:30 p.m. Both shows are topless
>as stated by Bally's ticketing.
>If we do the early show, we should get out around 9:00 and then start
>the Limo Tour which would conclude around midnight. If we attend the
>10:30 show and start the LT at midnight, we would end the tour around
>3:00 a.m.
>I'm recommending the 7:30 show, since I'm sure some of the girls would
>like some sleep time, dance time, casino time, or whatever time after
>the LT.
I tend to agree with the earlier show even though I can see advantages
and disadvantages to both. I do think the earlier show would be best all
around for most of our people who want to do it. Earlier show would also
increase the turnout for the limo tour.
If the 7:30 show gets out at 9:00, the limo tour could depart Bally's at
9:30 and proceed to make a pickup at CGT over at Flex about 10:00. Limo
tour could then end about 12:30, giving people sleep time or party time
after, if they want.
Only real disadvantage is a possible afternoon time crunch with zero
time for dinner. To follow the four-hour rule, the people who need max
prep time need to wind up their afternoon things about 3:30 in order
to get ready, get there, and be seated by 7:30. History has shown that
the four-hour rule is realistic for a big dress-up show.
Dinner options would be Taco Alpo in the limo, snack bar at their hotel
on the way, or dinner after show for those not doing the LT.
If we go with the earlier show, we need to consider this for any yet to
be planned Thursday afternoon things --- which will have to wind down
around 3:30 or so.
The 10:30 show would get out about 12:00, and the limo tour would depart
about 12:30. This would conclude at 3:30, meaning a realistic get back
to hotel time of 4:00am. For those getting up for golf or air tours the
next morning, OUCH! I can see fallout on the LT if this option is
selected.
I do believe that participation and turnout would be greater for both
the show and the LT if the 7:30 show is selected.
Another factor we need to consider is Club Girl Talk. I see CGT drawing
potentially two groups of our people:
1. Those not going to either the Thursday show or the Limo Tour.
2. Those not going to the Thursday show but going on the Limo Tour.
If we look back at 2002, we got about 40 people for the LaFemme show, or
about half of our registered and present in LV people. We also got 30 on
the limo tour, or just over 1/3 of our registered and present in LV
people.
Although there were a few people who did the limo tour and not the show,
most of the people on the limo tour had also been to the show. There
were also a number of people (10-15 or so) who went to the show, but not
on the LT.
I don't know what the non-show-non-limo people did. We did have the
Boardwalk thing, but I know there were not 30-40 people there during the
show/limo. I'm assuming most of the others were just off doing various
things on their own, either individually or with others.
Assuming we have the same ratios as last year, that means about half of
our people, or at least 40 or so, will not be doing either show or limo,
and will be potentially available for CGT. There's also a handful who
would be potentially available for the first part of CGT, those who
want to do the LT, but do not want to do the show.
What I think would definitely help CGT draw these people is if food is
available at Flex. That's one great still-unanswered question. Did Flex
ever get their food service going?

This is a valid concern, but there's seldom a need to go this far.
There are several well-documented virii/trojans/worms that can enter
a system via e-mail, most of which exploit certain weaknesses and/or
configuration oversights in Brand M software.

Good response. This sounds like fun! :)

This may just be the thing that triggers our extended day. I'm gonna
put this on the schedule with a note that it is optional and unofficial,
but if this group wants, we can, as we've reserved the option to do,
extend DLV by one day with an optional early start of April 21.
Comments? (on both the trip and the extension)

San Remo:
(Copied from DLVDISC list.)
Tina writes:
>Has Steve/Tiny given a contact name we should ask for when phoning the

As far as I know, nobody has been in contact with Tiny or anybody at the
San Remo regarding rates. No special rates have been asked for or
offered that I'm aware of.
If you (or anybody else) wants to look into this, write to me and I'll
give you Tiny's e-mail address.
BTW, I just booked the Sahara at $39/69 thru their web site. That's
really about as low as I expect any of the suggested hotels to ever be
for the DLV period. If something lower does come along I can always
cancel and rebook.

Some restaurants abhor separate checks. Often these will be those that
don't have an automated order/pos system but even if they do, the labor
to punch and ring out more tickets is considered.
>>>Just a thought or two on the subject from <disclaimer> someone who has

Yes, they want the $$$. However, restaurants have other considerations
such as how the style and number fits in with their operation, the
anticipated regular crowd that time, and even such things as how well
the staff will be compensated.
Some places gladly do buffets. The extra cost of the food is almost
always made up by the labor savings. Others, who consider things as
atmosphere, presentation, course rotation, etc., to be a signficant
part of what they offer will not do them.
Although I personally love buffets, I do think there are occasions where
sit-down full-service meals are appropriate for DLV.

For at least the past year, I have not heard anybody come out strongly
in favor of turning DLV into a convention. I've heard several who have
come out strongly in favor of keeping it a vacation, however.
>>>I agree that a convention in LV is good idea, and would probably
>>>attend it if I can afford the cost and time.
>A convention is best done completely separate from DLV.
The idea I threw out, if it comes about, is to have the convention
spinoff be totally administratively separate from DLV. If a convention
happens, I think there would be a demand for people to be able to do
both on one plane ticket, so I think there will be a desire to have them
either concurrent or adjacent on the calendar. All this is yet to be
decided, if it happens at all.

Incidentally, the following appeared in Friday's {Review-Journal} in their
"Dining Out" section:
+HAMBURGER MARY'S
+4503 Paradise Road; 735-4400
+Overall: B+
+$
+The Blueboy Burger is fantastic, but don't get it on the Hawaiian sweet
+bun, which is almost guaranteed to deconstruct in the face of all of
+that lovely gloppiness. Hamburger Mary's is a whimsical place and its
+sense of humor shows in its pizza menu, but the Oscar Goodman has more
+to recommend it than the mushrooms marinated in gin. And while the
+chocolate orgasm doesn't live up to its billing, it and the fried
+mozzarella are well worth the price of admission.
Not a single mention, or even a hint, of the clientele.
>>HM does have an extensive bar area. It is four sides compared
>HM is nice, i think they are a good venue that we should use more.
I know they are good for meals, my only question was do they have a space
for more of a social thing.
