Kenny Kerr possibilities:

This began as an off-line conversation. We're moving it to the org list
to be sure everybody is in the loop.

This involves the possibility of getting a special performance of Kenny
Kerr at Sasha's on Wednesday, in addition to our anticipated Michael
Cagle performance.

Leah writes:

I would say that our people would gladly pay a reasonable per-person
charge for a KK show, or even a dinner-show combination.

This will get a much better turnout if people do not have to pay in
advance, but we can give them a close headcount a couple weeks before.

>I don't know what his fees are but I imagine he gets a decent dollar to
>perform.

IMAO, he probably needs the business, so I think he will be reasonable.

>Also, my original impression was that we would get Cagle to perform for
>us the night we are there. Will he be willing to go on ahead of Kenny?
>Dunno.

Ideally, I would think a dinner performance by Michael and a postprandial
show by KK would be a winner. That would certainly get almost all of our
people in there.

>I can certainly talk to Sasha about it.... that's no problem but if I
>were her I would make me come on two separate nights to maximize my

>she says first beforehand.

With our schedule, I can't see us giving Sasha's two nights as the
feature activity. We do have plans for every evening, and Sasha's is,
of course, the Wednesday thing. As of now we don't have anything up
against it, but we have not declared that "sacred" WRT two-tracking.

Tuesday we have the welcome celebration. We could do that at Sasha's,
but we need that to be primarily social time, as opposed to show time,
IMAO, that is. That would also give us two nights in a row at Sasha's.

On Thursday we have CGT and a yet-to-be-determined show. We could do KK
at Sasha's, if Aiko (the volunteer to do that show) wants to go that
way. Also, Thursday would make two nights in a row at Sasha's as well.

Friday is our Annual Mixer. I don't wanna see us mess with that, meaning
strictly social, and at Goodtimes unless there is some compelling reason
to move it.

Saturday is Showgirls Of Magic. I don't think we want to break up the
group between two shows that evening.

Sunday is the Farewell Gathering. Nothing says we can't have that at
Sasha's, but if so, we want to see the show be in addition to, not in
place of a good dose of quality social time.

>As to Rudy de la Mor, I don't think he comes to town regularly as he
>has a pretty steady gig at Club Oz in the L.A. area. Also, just a

I seem to remember that he said he would be in LV in April. I know he
did say he would be performing at Sasha's a couple days a week in
December, so I'll plan on catching him when I'm there.

>Getting to and from the area is better now with that new shuttle

On the weekdays, I don't see parking as a major problem. On the
weekends, yes, the shuttle will be quite helpful.

>speak to Sasha as soon as I can.

Thanks, Leah. You have my comments, let's see what the others say.

... then Tina writes:

>1). Was there going to be entertainment at Sasha's on Wednesday during
>and/or after dinner? (Appears the answer is yes. We may want to

I'll update the schedule and summary to include this. We currently
have the venue as Sasha's/Milanos but I'll remove the Milanos part,
anticipating some kind of a dinner/show thing.

>2). Has Kenny Kerr actually made a repeat appearance at Sasha's since
>its grand opening? (Never heard a specific answer to that question.

>understand how having Cagle just play at dinner assures Sasha's of a

I (think I) was saying that having a Cagle dinner show and a KK after
dinner show would assure a full house with very few grazing to other
places.

>On the other hand, I could certainly understand why there might be
>separate charges for a dinner show with Cagle and a late show with

>somewhere else. Am I missing something there?

No, but maybe I am now that I think of it. :)

Having a charge of $30-ish per person for a KK show or dinner-show will
result in some fallout, I'm sure, more than having a Cagle-only show for
the price of dinner and a few bux in the hat.

IIRC, we had close to 50 last year on Wednesday at HM's for dinner, that
being dinner only. If we extrapolate by a 20% factor, that means an
estimated potential of 60 on Wednesday this next year for the same type
of activity. I fear that an additional charge for the KK portion of the
show would result in a number of them exiting to go elsewhere, or worse,
a charge for a dinner-show would result in a weaker turnout for the
entire evening.

Thoughts and comments on this, please?

>Glad to see all the possibilities being discussed, Looks like there

Uh-huh.

Nice restrooms too. :)

I do believe we would pack it for a dinner with a Cagle show, especially
if afternoon activities allow ample get-ready-and-get-there time. I
won't repeat my concerns about a reduced turnout with a steeper charge.

>Last year I think we lost people cause Cagle ended roughly
>around 8pm and Ginger Grant's show didn't start till eleven or so.

Hmmmm ... IIRC, most of our people went right over to Goodtimes after
Cagle's show for the Annual Mixer.

>I don't think we have any control over Ginger's show but if Kenny is
>coming just to perform for us and we are paying the frieght we can

One option if KK is not gonna happen is have a dinner show by Michael
and then use Sasha's entertainer du jour as one option of a possible
two-track or multi-track evening to follow.

I would not call it a hubbub, but some concern and some good discussion
about the topic.

The nature of our group invokes some unique concerns.

>Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that's what they do.

If we let human nature take its course, yes, we would indeed exit vans
and cars and proceed to one entrance as one "gaggle", since the mall
trips usually involve one vehicle, whose driver knows the way, leading
the other vehicles, who park together, and exit together unless we ...

There is a tendency for us to congregate in large groups. I've observed
this quite consistently over the past 25 years or so.

Some feel that the large group offers security, others are just a bit
shy to ask somebody else to accompany them, others are just going with
the flow.

I've always encouraged our people to split up, both when shopping and
when entering a mall. People consistently report a higher comfort level
if the group attracts less attention from the civilians in the area.

>I believe they go in pairs or in small groups of 3.

I've always encouraged people to shop and tour in groups no larger than
3 (t-girls) as an absolute maximum if they want to blend in to the
general public.

Three seems to be the magic number, and some discussion on this as well
as some semi-geeky math on the topic is the subject of an article I am
now writing.

You will find that 99% of the salespeople will indeed be friendly and
helpful. Your money is just as green as anybody else's. They want you to
find something you like so you will buy it, and they want you to be
happy, so you will return and spend more $$$ and recommend their place
to others.

Sounds like a winner. You don't by any means need to decide this far
out, but you might be thinking of in which afternoon this would best
fit, keeping in mind that because of Mindy's involvement, it can't go
against golf.

I was thinking that the idea of a "Garden Party" might get a much better
turnout than a "Swimming Party" just due to the fact that many (me
included) are a bit shy of appearing in beach attire.

Only thing I would add is to suggest that a group of five is too many
for a mainstream mall or department store. That's still above the magic
number of three, which is the absolute most, imao, that should be
present in any single group in such a place. As I've said, I'm working
up some formalities on this phenomenon.
