For those of you who expect this to come like clockwork, it was not sent
in the batch tonite since one more item came in and I had to get it
added.

Word on the net is that the Ladies Night Out Improv at the Greek Isles
has been cancelled.

Therefore, this has been removed from the schedule.

Club Girl Talk. I've only been to one of their things. Here's my
impression. It's a club, not a support group. Very informal. Emphasis
on socializing. Not headtrippy at all.

It gives the people what they want, a chance to eat, drink, and be Mary.
Well, drink and be Mary anyway, I never heard if Flex got their food
service going. :)

There's a Yahoo group for it. URL is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LVClubGirlTalk/

It's affiliated with Girl Talk Magazine, but I'm unsure to what degree.
The magazine is not overly hyped, though.

>I like the idea of shopping at Primm. I've never been there. Where
>exactly is it?

40 miles or so south of LV, right at the California state line. In with
a cluster of three casinos and a huge roller coaster. (Or as they say in
Indiana, "rolley-coaster". :)

>Is it one big shopping complex?

Yes, all inside, connected to the south of the Primm Valley Casino.

>I'm assuming its different stores from the factory outlets found at
>Belz and other LV shopping centers/Malls (Meadows, Boulevard, Fashion
>Show) ?

Yes and no. Lots of ubiquity, some are unique.

>Are the prices and selection better?

IMAO, no.

>How many hours would be needed to adequately cover such a place?

Depending on how much in-depth shopping you do, 1-3 or so.

I drove down there with Sarah one day during DLV 2001. I was mostly
browsing and taking notes. It's an "outlet" mall, similar to Belz. It's
definitely worth the trip once, but there was really nothing there that
blew me away and not much that's not available in the combination of
places you mention above. I think maybe we spent 1 1/2 hours or so
there. I didn't buy anything, though I do remember trying on a couple
tops at {mumble}.

Stores were typical of the upper-scale outlet malls, such as DKNY, Gap,
Banana Republic, Guess, Tommy H. etc. I don't specifically remember any
places specializing in the larger sizes. I also don't remember any shoe
shops, but I'm sure they are there.

There's a food court with the usual, like Sbarro, Panda Express, some
toast-on-a-stick place, Starbucks, etc.

One thing I did notice, which I mentioned above (or below?) is that
there did not seem to be very many kids there.

I dunno if this is gonna happen or not. You're really the only one who
has expressed any interest in it since DLV. I guess it could happen in
conjunction with any of a few evenings if there is interest.

Yes, it's probably good to avoid crowds as much as possible, especially
when the new(er) people are involved.

If you want a lack of crowds, late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon
will not be the least crowded in Primm. This is the time of the exodus
back from Las Vegas to El-Lay for the weekenders, and Primm (as well as
Barstow) is a popular stop-off point.

The good news is that Primm seems to have fewer kids than the Las Vegas
area malls -- at any time.

Slowest times in Primm will be the weekdays during the day. Earlier in
the week will be slower. Friday will be relatively busy, since this is
the exodus from the LA area to LV.

With this in mind, I would suggest either Wednesday or Thursday for
such a trip.

>I have never been shopping in girl mode so some experienced input would
>be necessary to make this event successful.

If you don't mind me digressing here, I think we can give you more input
than you would ever want. Some of this might not be what you and others
want to hear, but ...

Shopping is (can be) a lot of fun, and several people have mentioned it
as a milestone in their passage, when they start buying more things in
real life than via mail/phone/ebay/etc.

Our shopping trips in the past have had mixed success. Turnout has
always been lower than evening indoor activities. Some people reported
a great time, others have reported being scared sh*tless.

We've done both mall shopping and the individual stand-alone shops.

Belz Mall seems to be the most popular with our people over the years,
but we've had other successful trips to Boulevard Mall, Fantastic Indoor
Swap Meet, Wal-Mart, and Desert Passage.

I would say the following "rules" apply to a successful shopping
experience:

1. (Broken record/stuck CD yeah, I know) Don't overdress! This still
seems to be very difficult for some.

I know I p*ssed off one of our people last May when she asked me for an
opinion as to whether I thought what she had on (denim above-knee skirt
and black patent pumps) would be appropriate for the Boulevard Mall. I
said quite honestly that it would not be what a lady of her age and size
would wear to the mall, and I suggested she first go to the mall and
observe the way the other ladies of her age and size were dressing.

Sorry for being blunt, but there are two acceptable versions of the
uniform-of-the-day for mall shopping in Las Vegas:

  a. Casual to very casual, girlmode.

  b. Boymode.

2. Don't hang around in groups. This has been very difficult for
some of our people, as there is the perception of security in a group.

I've always suggested groups of 3 at most. The more GG's and boymode
people that can be mixed in with these groups, the better.

3. Have a definite time and place for people to meet at the conclusion
and encourage everybody to be punctual. In the case of multiple vehicles,
be sure to know who rode with whom, and who is to ride back with whom,
so nobody gets stranded. We've had problems with a whole crowd standing
around (conspicuously) while waiting for one or two stragglers.
. . . . .

Some people have been very creative in blending into the crowd. Last
year at Belz, a group of 3 (I think) of our people were seen pushing a
stroller through the mall, even though they were using it as a shopping
cart. It appeared quite natural. I noticed them because I recognized the
faces, not because they obviously stood out.
. . . . .

Here's a thread from the followup discussion of DLV 2001 that talks
about shopping a bit, and the misconceptions that some of our people
have had about DLV shopping trips.

+>Whenever you mention shopping at D.L.V., I get this vision of you
+>walking down Northampton Mall (local mall here) leading a pack
+>of 30 t-girls, all who are just following each other blindly the
+>mall, not stopping to shop or go in the stores or anything.
+
+LOL! No, trust me, this is not what happens at all. In a small shop
+such as Vegas Girl or Bare Essentials, yes, we take over the place, but
+in the malls, everybody scatters, and I encourage people to not shop in
+groups. I suggest individually or in pairs, at most.
+
+Mall shopping in groups just does not work. Everybody has their own
+things to look for and their own interests.
+
+>I
+>know this isn't what goes on, but I wonder if the others get this
+>vision and it scares them off.
+
+I don't know. Those who have told me why they did not go cited other
+things going on at the time, lack of interest in shopping, and general
+uneasiness of shopping in public.

+
+Yes, everybody kinda scattered and did their own thing. I know you and
+I browsed for a while, and I think a group of two was the most I ever
+saw, except for maybe getting something to eat in the food court.

+>I'm just getting easy with going out, and I fear the attention that
+>a whole gaggle of girls will get. I don't want to think I'm a snob,
+>but I would be more easy just going shopping by myself.
+
+With all the comments in this thread, it appears there is a very
+inaccurate perception of what goes on at our shopping trips.
+
+We do have to be careful of unwanted attention. It is indeed another
+balancing act. We have to give the newer people some encouragement
+and support, while breaking up the large group into individuals and
+groups of 2-3 for the actual shopping.
+
+Personally, I don't like to shop in a group. I prefer alone, or maybe
+with one other person, if we are helping each other with opinions and
+such. With even a group of 3-4 I find myself getting bored while the
+others are looking at something I'm not interested in, or else
+distracted.
+
+A number of our people have reported shopping alone over the years
+of DLV with no major incidents at all.

I'm sure one of the SBS people will chime in, but here's what I know.
Southern Belle Society. Informal group with emphasis on socializing.
(Hmmmm ... seems to be a trend here.) I'm not a member, but I have been
known to show up at a few of their things. :)

Only problem I see with any of those is the Orleans, where there were
some valid reports of an anti-t* attitude a couple years ago. I have not
heard anything lately.
