Dates:

Now that our dates are in stone, we can begin spreading the word. In the
next few days I'll be submitting the DLV dates to all the web sites that
listed us in their events calendar last year. I noticed a couple of them
actually have the dates posted already. :) Seems like only yesterday it
was almost impossible to get DLV on those things!

I'm asking everybody to help be sure the word is being spread far and
wide. If you see a t* events calendar that does not list us, please make
a submission.

If you have a personal website, we would appreciate a link to the DLV
site.

If you are in a t* support group, please see if you can get us a blurb
in the group's newsletter and/or on the group's web site.

If you have a GLBT newspaper in your area which has an events column,
please submit a notice for DLV.

For all of thes, please be sure you list the dates as Tuesday, April 30,
2002 thru Sunday, May 5, 2002. Please use the web URL of:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/

... and the contact e-mail address of dlv@geekbabe.com

I'm suggesting the text of:

"Diva Las Vegas 2002, a vacation, not a convention" to appear in any
subjects, headlines, etc.

Activities:

Now that we have our dates set, we want to spend the next few months
discussing our activities and tuning the schedule. We want to have the
major activities decided upon by the time we take our break for the
holidays. That means we've got 3 months more or less.

I've taken the liberty of fitting a number of our proposed activities
into timeslots to make what appears to be a combination of Michelle's
original schedule and what we've been discussing for the past month or
so.

I'll copy the latest schedule version at the bottom of each DLVORG
mailing. You can also find it on the web along with the unassigned
proposed activities at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/org02arc/acts.html

Only radical thing I did was to plug in the FI show on Thursday evening.

This far out, we must consider everything "highly tentative" at this
time.

If you will look at the schedule and the comments that have come in
over the past month or so, it seems like we have a very good start
on the evening activities ... we seem to be in agreement on what will
best fit when.

However, we need to do some work on the days. I want to have a selection
of activities that have a broad appeal (no pun intended) including some
that are very much out and about, as well as a couple that are
nonthreatening to those who are new to appearing in public. I don't
wanna see our people avoid the afternoon activities. We also need one
or two that are totally new and different.

Something for each and every person on this list to think about is what
activities YOU would like to help organize. Remember, many of our great
ideas will not happen unless volunteers step forward to make them
happen.

new development.

I wonder how much competition it will give to Belz and the mall at
Primm? (Hmmmm ... aren't "upscale" and "outlet mall" kinda mutually
exclusive? :)

Golf, Grand Canyon, etc.:

First of all, an apology to Michelle for the delay on this item. It was
received on the 13th., but for some reason I did not include it in the
mailing on the 19th. Sorry. :(

I have a feeling they would tend to consider their regular crowd before
their transient crowd. Karaoke is one of their more popular things, and
gets them a (consistent over the weeks) good turnout on a weekday.
Besides, I don't think we could guarantee them 60-100 bodies on a
Wednesday evening.

I'm the first to admit that RHPS is not for everybody. I'm sure we will

our people, golf being another example.

Hey, we can schedule golf opposite RHPS. Yeah, that's the ticket. :)

We may have a misunderstanding about that term. I was using the term
"show-centric" to mean an evening centered around a show, such as Kenny
Kerr or Folies.

>Actually, we could have the social then those that wanted to do late nite
>gambling or go dance could do so after the social.

Yes, this is an option that appears to be popular.

Ok, let's pencil that in as a Tuesday evening dinner thing ...

Yes, they have been very good to us for three years running. The only
problem with Milano's is size. We have to hit them early in the week
before our big crowd arrives. A Friday or Saturday thing at Milano's
would have overwhelmed the place.

We did the Stratosphere in 1998 (or was it 1999?). I waited on terra
firma while others went up in the tower. (NO WAY I'm going up in that
thing!) I won about $40 at vp while waiting. :)

>Additional activity comments:

>Shopping certainly should be on the agenda. Much like it was organized
>for DLV'01.

I've got a tentative "mall crawl" planned. We haven't fit it in the
schedule yet. It could probably fit any weekday afternoon.

I suppose I could threaten to schedule this on Saturday afternoon, in
order to get the others to start thinking of activities that would be
good for Saturday during the day.

>I think an organized trip to LV Fantasy Tours would be just AB FAB.

This is another one we have on the proposed list, along with a trip to
Liberace Museum (and Goodtimes, if they are still around). This would
fit any weekday afternoon.

>It's also been a while since the organized buffet has been discussed.

This is something we can discuss at length and plan as the time
approaches. It's fortunately something that is quite flexible and
something that could be done multiple times at multiple places if
the demand is there.

We also have to be considerate of those who don't have as much
disposable income. The upscale buffets are in the $20+ range. Maybe a
buffet nite with a group at an upscale one and another group at a
cheaper one would work.

>Annie, count myself and Rhianna (from Phoenix) in to be "Big Sisters".
>Rhianna and I talked about this last week while she was visiting me and
>we'd both like to do this.

Actually I think both of you would make excellent Big Sisters. Keep this
in mind when we do a call for volunteers for this around the first of
the year.

There are a few others who I think stand out as being candidates for
this as well. Ok, I'll name names, Aiko, Yvonne, and Cat come to mind
immediately, and there are a number of others too.

We've been fortunate that in the past we've had far more volunteers for
Big Sisters than we have had the need for. The concept has worked out
quite well from the reports that have come in. We want to promote this
again this coming year, especially toward those who may be new and
uneasy.

The things you see on email:

>> Alas, there are no "woodies" around.

Jeez!

You of all people (by virtue of geography, not by virtue of having a dirty
mind) should know of both the Cyclone and Thunderbolt. :)

Seriously, coaster afficianados have a soft place in their hearts for
the old wooden-frame roller coasters, especially the original ones as
opposed to repros, and "woodie" is their term for this kind of beast.

Cyclone is (Thunderbolt was) the grandaddy of them all (even though both
are/were iron frame with wood superstructure) and those at Allentown,
Sandusky, and Arnold's Park are other popular ones.

ObTrivia: Which popular film featured the Thunderbolt and the house which
sat beneath it for many years?

Agreed. Not only might it scare some off, it might give people the wrong
impression of DLV. If you remember some of the messages posted to a
couple of the Yahoo groups last year right before DLV, naive readers
might get the impression that DLV was a non-stop orgy.

>>RHPS:

>Divine Decadence has had some problems with the people who own the film

I see ... the old "Golden Rule" ... he who has the gold makes the rules.

If those self-appointed leaders wanna retain their throne, they are
gonna have to cough up some major $$$ for a new print. I'm sure that's
now a major issue for the cast, since the print is now approaching the
point where it is totally unusable.

>Yes to both for me,

Skydiving is something totally off the wall and different, and I think
we need things like this, even if just to make DLV unique and atypical.
It's not gonna appeal to everybody, even less so than golf or RHPS. It's
definitely not for me, but I would be more than happy to drive a vanload
out to the airport and pick them up at the jump point. I've heard of
both real-life and wind tunnel skydiving in the LV area.

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that the magnetic propulsion coaster
at Sahara is not as brutal as those at NYNY or Buffalo Bill's. That's
what they tell me, I haven't been on it yet.

discount for DLV people, open house, etc. He seems to be aware of what
DLV is and is not.

I'm putting this shop on the web vendor list, green light pending
feedback. If anybody checks this place out, feedback would be
appreciated.

Update: John is offering DLV people 10% discount this coming May.
