Motion to consider dates in stone:

We've voted (motion carried, see mailing list history) for the dates of
Tuesday, April 30 thru Sunday, May 5 to be DLV 2002. This was announced
in the regular DLV list on the first of August with a call for final
comments last Wednesday. So far, all comments have been in favor of
those dates.

I know we set September 1 as when we would announce the dates as being
official, but I see no reason why we can't consider them in stone as
of this date and time.

Since our motion carried close to unanimous, and since all comments
received were positive, unless somebody says "hold it" in the next
day or so, I'm gonna remove the "tentative" note on the web page and
mailing list intro messages and consider April 30 - May 5 to be the
dates of DLV 2002.

Any objections, please speak now or forever ...

Cobalt and such:

>I have never been to Cobalt but it is behind the LV lounge on the
>corner.....just a short distance away. From what I can see it looks
>like a small place, sort of a neighborhood bar atmosphere. Next time I
>am in the area I will poke my nose in and take a look-see.

Thanks. If it looks good we can add it to the bar list and to the
places listing on the web.

If it is nice, it may be a place people can migrate to when the, uh,
"performers" are on stage at LVL, assuming both LVL and Cobalt are
the same next May.

>On a more erotic note.....there is a new sex club in the extreme
>northeast corner of the Commercial Center that is very T-friendly if
>anyone is so inclined. Ladies are free......$40 for the gents. All
>persuasions are welcome including the BDSM crowd. No alcohol however.

I think this is the one somebody (Tina?) reported on earlier.

>Just thought I would mention it but maybe it's not something to put out
>in a mailing as some may be sensitive to such a place.

We had a discussion of the Red Rooster, a (defunct?) swingers club which
was about the same price. I just looked up the thread, it's on the
1999-2000 org list http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/orgarc/date.html
starting on June 13 and ending about September 1.

The bottom line was that we were not gonna promote it as an official
DLV activity. Of course, anybody who wanted to do that was free to do
so on their own.

>Regarding Flex......I haven't been there either but have not heard
>anything bad about it.

That's what many people, including me, have reported, but reports by
those who have gone there are positive.

RHPS:

>>Assuming the cast and theater are still in the same place, I think
{bobbitt}

>Is this a possibility? did you hear something I didn't?

Uh, no, nothing specific. I haven't heard anything.

However, the only constant in this world is change. RHPS casts and
theaters change frequently. We were planning to do RHPS in 1998 when
the cast (Divine Decadance) had their theater (Torrey Pines) closed
at short notice, leaving them homeless for the DLV 1998 period.

By 1999 they had found a new home (Paradise 6) and have been there
ever since.

On the positive side, things have been more or less stable since 1999.

On the negative side, the Paradise 6 is in poor shape physically. I
expect it to be either sold or closed in the next few years. If they
are making $$$, they sure are not applying it to maintenance.

It's well known that there are some cast.politics issues. Plus, the
print they have (either owned by DD or the theater) is in abysmal shape.
As you may remember, the film broke right at the start of the time warp,
and they had a very amateurish work-around at the opening credits and
overture. That print is not gonna last another 52 passes thru the
projector!

Time will tell.

Huh??

First time I've heard this.

Any details? Anybody else know anything?

I enjoyed this last May. Even though there was not a huge crowd (this
was a Tuesday afternoon during a major convention) it was well-attended.

Goodtimes???:

Thanks for the heads up.

It was my understanding that the Liberace Museum would be taking over
some of the rear bays, but the front ones and the Italian place would be
spared. That's what they told me (the ubiquitous "they") last May.

Please keep us informed. Time will tell. At least we have 9 months
notice that this may be happening. (I hate to lose Goodtimes, though,
it's one of the most popular of the DLV hangouts.)

Has the Liberace Museum announced an opening date for the expansion?

No, but I am. {blush} Try it again. :)

Uh, RHPS is Saturday night (actually Sunday morning).

I tend to agree with this. I think a nice mix would be for one of our
two prime evenings to be social and the other to be show-centric and
such.

Keys is one of the more popular places with the DLV crowd, yes. It
would be a good choice for what we would call a "welcome" since it's
not intimidating for those who are new to going out.

I think this (buffet followed by light entertainment and socializing)
would be an excellent DLV "welcome" thing on Wednesday.

We would probably want to get somewhat of an accurate headcount in
advance so they could have the right amount of food prepared.

>Do I remember correctly something about parachuting as a function
>(alternative, Iam sure)? I would be interested.

Yes, that has been suggested, both for real and in one of those
wind tunnels. Personally, I'll skip that one. :)

>I also wonder if anyone other than me might like to do roller coasters
>and sky diving?

Roller coasters, yes. :)

(Or as they say in Indiana, "rolley-coasters". :)

There are several in the LV area, the largest being about 1/2 hour away
at Primm. I know both Bunny and Densie (and others) did the one at NYNY
one year.

I have mixed feelings about getting a group of our people for such a
thing as a roller coaster per se. It is definitely a (pardon the
expression) dress-down activity, and all of them in the area are very
public, with boocoo kids all over the place, plus usually a wait on line
which might be a bit much for the newer people. On the other hand, it
would be lots of fun! :)

If we wanna do something like a general excursion to NYNY or a shopping
trip to Primm, the coaster may be an option that people could do a few
at a time if they wanted.

Alas, there are no "woodies" around. Long live Cyclone, RIP Thunderbolt!
