Only 65 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome:

Once again welcome! Many newcomers joined this list and registered this
week. Things are really hopping! I'm particularly impressed with the
number of people from the Las Vegas area who will be joining us. This
will be the largest participation by far by the local Las Vegas crowd.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Main gathering spot:

>What Hotel will be the main gathing spot?

As far as hotels, we'll have several of our group at both the Imperial
Palace and the Sahara.

As far as gathering spots, those will be everywhere, depending on the
particular activity. See the schedule notes {below} for a list. Explicit
details on each event, like how to get there and exactly where to meet,
will be sent out just before DLV.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dress suggestions:

>>>Say, question here. Is there a Dress Code for Diva?

>>Not really. We give specific suggestions for dress for each activity
>>shortly before DLV. If you want a general guideline, I would say that

>You couldn't post this beforehand, like soon, could you? I need to
>plan my wardrobe too and want some ideas.

Well, I won't be writing up that in particular until April or so, but we
can go over some of the events and discuss them. Let's look at the stuff
on the schedule ...

>Also, can you go through and list some events that are good for a
>beginner to go dressed to?

Ok, let's discuss that too ...

For the Pre-DLV party, the welcome get-together, Keys on Thursday, the
limo tour Sunday, and the farewell-get-together, you have lots of
latitude. About anything from casual to dressy is ok, either in
girlmode or boymode. All of these would be safe and nonthreatening for
a beginner. The Friday evening welcome get-together is kind of a
traditional first-coming-out event; it's very safe, you will be among
friends. :)

For the Wednesday evening dinner, the Friday buffet dinner, Thursday
shopping trip, Friday matinee movie, late-nite gambling, Saturday strip
tour, Monday trip to Rhyolite, I would suggest either casual girlmode or
boymode. I'd say all these are "safe" for a confident beginner, but
there is definite public exposure, so those who are uneasy in public
might consider boymode for them.

For Rocky Horror, anything goes, ANYTHING! :) If you've got something
really exotic you're just dying to wear in public, this is the chance.
Don't dream it, be it! This is probably the "safest" event for a
beginner I can think of!

The two shows, Saturday and Sunday, are traditional dress-up events, but
non-grungy casual, either boymode or girlmode is ok. Showrooms don't
have dress codes anymore. I would say anything non-grungy and non-slutty
is ok, but most of the DLV people will wear nice dresses or evening
wear. These may seem a bit scary for a beginner, but there is safety in
numbers and Big Sisters will be there for you. I know I mentioned the
limo trip as casual ok above, but it follows the Folies show, so
probably most will be dressed nicely for it.

If you've never been out, or don't have a clue about what to wear
for DLV, I have two suggestions:

1. Observe GG's who are your approximate age, size, body type, and
fitness level at such places as shopping malls, theaters, restaurants,
casinos (if you have them), tourist spots, parties, etc. This will
give you some ideas of what is usual and customary for various events.

2. Look thru the DLV archives at the URL below. This will show you
what DLV people have been wearing over the years. You'll see examples
of casual, dressy, boymode, girlmode, etc.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, let us know.

Clubs:

(somewhat edited)

>>>It's a shame that FreeZone has fallen into disfavor with some of the
[snip]

>>You can go if you want, but I won't go unless I hear of a significant
>>attitude change. I'll just go to Angles/Lace, or even over to Double
[munch]

>I'm with you, Annie. I say F*** em!
[clip]

Well, I would put my feelings along the line of "starve a rat today"!
There are just too many places that want our business, that I can't see
wasting time and money in a place like that. We can have just as much
fun, if not more, elsewhere.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Mailbag:

>FIrst of all... I live in Vegas.

>The temperatures here have been very cold from what I am used to lately.
>It may be a cool may, please be prepared.

Thanks for the heads up. Actually, I wouldn't mind if it's a bit cooler
than normal. Last year is was cooler and most of us enjoyed it that
way.

>I have been in Club lace and Angles.

Angles/Lace is a nice place. Kind of a nice easy place surrounded by the
loud and zooey ones (but those can be fun too, at the right time).

>In Club Lace it is not a big deal
>which restroom you use. I used the feamle on and never had a second
>look.

As is the case for 99.9% of the places out there.

>But, I do recomment going with a partner anywhere you go.

For most of the bars, yes, I would have to agree with you, even though
I've been to Goodtimes, Keys, and LVL alone (well, I was meeting
somebody there) and never felt uncomfortable.

I would say that most shops, casinos, restaurants, etc., in Las Vegas
are safe alone, if you're comfortable with it, that is.

If I may digress, the only time I've felt uneasy in Las Vegas alone was
back at DLV 97 when I encountered a totally trashed very obnoxious male
(actually two of them, but one was kinda pretending to not know the
other) while I was playing VP over at the Stardust. I was not alone, he
was also annoying a nearby GG. My reaction was to get out of the area.
As I left, I noticed two security guys walking toward that area at a
very quick pace, so I'm sure they got rid of him (them).

>Next to Angles in a great coffee shop too that is t-friendly..

Do you have the name and address of this? I would like to put it on the
list of recommended places if possible.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Hotels:

>What hotel is everyone staying at

This year we're recommending the Imperial Palace and the Sahara for DLV.
Both are known to be t-friendly and both are nice and have reasonable
rates.

>I want to book a room next week ,
>want to be next to the other girls , same place ,same floor . And could
>you send the phone #.

Same place is easy. We'll have people at both.

Same floor may be difficult, as they don't normally assign rooms until
check-in time.

The direct number for Imperial Palace is 800-634-6441 and the number
for the Sahara is 888-696-2121.

See the Sahara room deal below in this mailing.

You can often times get a better deal by going thru an agent or room
broker than thru the hotel directly. One who got a number of DLV people
some good deals at the Imperial Palace last year is listed below. She
knows who we are and what DLV is. Tell her you read about her agency in
this mailing.

>A also want to say that I appreciate all the countless hours you

Thank you very much. I'll let you in on a well-kept secret. I don't
put in "countless hours". :) What I do I would describe as a lot of
cheerleading thru the year in order to get the word out and get
everybody in more or less the same place at more or less the same time.
When that happens, DLV kinda runs itself. It's really a low-maintenance
get-together, at least it has been the past several years. (And I hope
it stays that way.)

>I can't wait for Diva Las Vegas. I'm counting the days, the hours.

I'm counting the days too. But don't forget to live for today. :)

>That's all I really wanted, just to express my appreciation. I'm
>really looking forward to this. Thank you.

Thanks again. Flattery will get you everywhere. <vbfg> Seriously, it's
feedback like this that lets us know we're doing something right. Things
like this make the effort well worthwhile. :)

Freezone:

>I won't recommend you to FreeZone to do any of their PR work :)

That's probably a wise decision. :)

>Seriously, I have read the negative comments from some of the girls.
>It's just that I have not had any such experience. OK, last time I was
>there a drunken girl was hanging all over me, and I had to leave. I
>actually had to ask the doorman to keep her inside while I walked to my
>car. Really more of a funny experience than negative:)

>In fact, I always have used the "ladies" there.

In all fairness, I must say I've been there a number of times, and I
know I've used the facilities there, and was never confronted. It's just
the {word here} of the reports from both the local ladies and our own
DLV people that have led me to believe we're not really welcome there,
at least in equal standing with their other customers.

If you (or anybody else) feels strongly that Freezone would be a
worthwhile DLV activity, I'll suggest this. Phone or write their
management, get their official statement. If we've perceived things the
wrong way, then that will set the record straight. If they don't really
want us there, perhaps in deference to some of their more regular
clientele, or maybe some WAB/WBW discrimination, then that will be
evident too. Quite possibly they are quite ignorant, as many are,
about that "T" portion of "GLBT".
