Only 72 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome:

(Okay, okay, enough games with the subject lines for this year. :)

Welcome to those who just joined. Several new people on the list this
week and yet more registrations.

Yes, it looks like we will have a very good crowd this year, and another
fantastic DLV!

Headcount projection:

Now that we have our registrations cleaned up (thanks, gang), we'll
start publishing an extrapolated headcount projection in the headcount
section below. Think of it as a semi-scientific guess. Don't be
surprised if it actually drops at times, since registrations seem to
come in spurts, like right after a note "be sure to register" appears
here.

This figure should converge on an approximation of the true headcount
as the day approaches.

Thanks, Brandi.

Ladies, gentlemen, please speak up (just reply to this message) if there
is interest in this. I know this is quite different, but if you would
like to do something outdoorsy en femme (or in boymode) we could easily
second-track this on Saturday or Sunday morning and/or afternoon.

Sooooo, if you're tired of P-town Annie leading you on those hikes thru
casinos and shopping malls, here's your chance. :)

FYI, we took a driving trip to Red Rock in 1999 and to Valley Of Fire
in 2000. Photos of both are on the DLV web page.

Weather:

>What is the average temperature for the first week of May?

Normally highs are in the 80's to 90's and lows are in the 60's.

However (comma) last year it was unseasonably cool, even though they had
forecast highs in the 90's just before I left for DLV. In 1997 it was
very warm. One of the people was filming us outside the Liberace Museum
and I thought I was gonna melt! It was well over 100.

>I'm starting to plan wardrobe already!

At most, a sweater or light jacket is all you should need, and mostly
on the casino floors. :)

IMAO, they OD on the AC in LV! :)

>Also, I need to decide if I should bring my "big hair" or leave it at
>home in favor of shorter, cooler styles.

Well, they tell me my hair is "big", and I never felt uncomfortably
warm, but I'm used to it, summers are hot around here too.

Dress code:

>Say, question here. Is there a Dress Code for Diva?

Not really. We give specific suggestions for dress for each activity
shortly before DLV. If you want a general guideline, I would say that
dress should be "appropriate to the occasion", which for Las Vegas gives
everybody quite a bit of leeway. For most of our activities, anything
from casual to moderately dressy, either boymode or girlmode, would be
appropriate. One caveat is to avoid overdressing in the daytime.

>Is there any kind of a Code Of Conduct for Diva conventioneers?

Nothing specific. Just be nice and considerate of others. Act as a
lady or gentleman, whichever you prefer at the time. :)

This is not an error. The "so_attending" field is boolean, which prints
as "t" or "f". I should probably map this to "Yes" or "No" in the
reports so it won't confuse anybody. Sorry 'bout that.

#transgender and #crossdress refer to IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels,
similar to what some people know as "chat rooms". The people who started
DLV back in 1997 met on IRC. Many DLV people are IRC regulars.

Sounds like a plan to me. :)

Thanks, Tina, for coordinating this. I'm sure everybody will appreciate
your efforts and cooperate so everybody can sit together and enjoy the
show and the company. (And yes, I plan to attend this year. :)

Roommates:

>I am interested in attending and would like a roommate.

Ok, let's get you on the mailing list and catch you up with the last
mailing. This will let you know what's currently going on.

Here's the notes about roommates that appeared once in the mailing
list. If you're interested in sharing a room write in as below.

+If you've already booked a room, and would like for somebody else to
+stay with you and share the expense, or if you're looking for somebody
+who has extra space, please write to the list (dlv@geekbabe.com) with
+the word "Roommate" somewhere in the subject line. Please include the
+following items in your e-mail:

+1. Your name.

+2. Your e-mail address.

+3. What date you will be arriving and what date you will be departing.

+4. Do you have a room to share, or do you need space in one.

+5. Any annoying habits or traits you have. (Do you smoke, do you snore,
+are you a very early riser, compulsive talker, late-nite MTV addict,
+etc.)

+6. Any additional notes or comments.

+When we have roommate items, we will include them in a special ongoing
+section toward the bottom of each mailing. Those interested in sharing
+rooms can then contact each other by e-mail and make arrangements.

+Please remember, any roommate arrangements are strictly between the
+people involved, and I or anybody else cannot be responsible if things
+don't work out (etc. etc., you know the drill).

Well, with 30 or so, nature certainly called. Where did your group
go, which one?

>I use the "ladies" everyplace I go, but
>if that is a no-no at FreeZone, and all they ask is for me to use the

We may have to agree to disagree on this point. Yes, it *is* a big
deal to me, and to a number of others in the DLV group. I just don't
want to give my business to a place that considers me worth less than
any other person.

Also, in our group we have those who range from heavily closeted to
those who are post-op and fully transitioned. It's absurd to ask the
latter to use an inappropriate restroom, period.

>I assume everyone knows that

You can go if you want, but I won't go unless I hear of a significant
attitude change. I'll just go to Angles/Lace, or even over to Double
Down. (Anybody else been there? :)

Kenny Kerr, LVRS, etc.:

>When do we need to buy tickets and/or make reservations for the {Kenny
>Kerr} show? Please send us all the juicy details.

I don't have the juicy details yet. Since I'm probably gonna be the "Den
Mother" for that one, I'll find out the details and post them about a
month in advance or so. At both DR and Plaza, they were cool with
everybody paying separately but sitting together.

>> a room broker such as Las Vegas Reservation Systems (on the web at

Silverton isn't bad at all. I've actually stayed there one nite and
it was nice and comfortable. Big problem is the location. To say it's
on the Strip is really pushing things. It's farther from the main
part of the Strip than downtown Las Vegas is.

I think the key word here is "once". :)
