This week?

>Say, do you know anything about a Transgender convention in Vegas
>this week?

Uh, no, this is the first I've heard of it. Do you (or anybody) know
anything more.

IMAO, if it is happening, they've done a very good job of keeping
the secret. Anybody local to LV know anything about this?

Actually, I would be very surprised if we were the only people doing
a DLV type thing. I'm sure other t* people have had similar ideas.

I dunno?

Not to be picky, but any dictionary will have the word "revue" listed
as a term for a musical or variety stage show, and, if yer stuck for
something to do some nite, try a web search for "newsfroup" {sic}.
<semi-grin>

>>Galiano.

Actually, I've known for a while that the proper spelling of the
drink is "Galliano", but since the artist on the 45 spells it with
one "l" ... :)

Welcome :)

That can be changed. :) (If you never have dreams, they will never
come true.)

>>>Sorry for not responding earlier. I've been meaning to write you and

And you're very welcome.

>know this is a lot of money, so I want to be sure what to expect

You sound like you may be a bit unsure. I can assure you that there
will be others there who at times felt that way, those who now are
more self-assure. This comes with time.

>Last year I even followed along with your schedule on my calendar

>this will be my first time really out.

I think there's a MAJOR misunderstanding here. The place that's become
our traditional welcome meeting place is in a small strip mall. Along
with Goodtimes are mostly small shops that are 9-5 in nature. The
Liberace Museum, the major attraction of that corner, which occupies a
stand-alone building and two bays in the mall, is itself open 9-5 or
something like that. IIRC, the only things open in the evening in that
strip mall are Goodtimes and an Italian restaurant toward the back of
the mall.

The only people who will be there are the bar's regulars, a few
drop-ins, and us. There are no open windows, and no crowds wandering
by. It's quite secluded and somewhat dim, although not dark.

>Ideal-ly could you make
>this at someplace in the same hotel everybody stays at,

Unless somebody gives us some VERY good rates, there will not likely be
one hotel where everybody stays. We'll have a few recommended places as
before, and perhaps one that offers some kind of group incentive to DLV
people, but I think it's safe to say we'll be all over the town, for
the fourth year in a row.

>I know
>I could never get up the nerve to take a cab or bus to it.

With rare exception, someone with a vehicle will give you a ride, and
even meet you at your room if you're uneasy venturing out.

There are a number of things that the group will do in the daytime
that, yes, are in broad daylight, but in every case it's perfectly ok
to do this in boymode, and no, you will not be the only one who does
so.

The only warning I would give anybody with regard to dress is to not
overdress during the day. Days in Las Vegas are casual. This can give
you some priceless real-world experience you won't get elsewhere.

No problems at all. We were treated as any other group of our size
would have been treated. Tables front-and-center blocked off and
reserved for us.

>Did they even say anything to you
>about this?

No, not at all. This was nothing new for them. FI shows will have t*
types in the audience, goes with the territory. When I made the group
reservation, I simply bopped over there from the N+I show, in boymode,
and gave an approximate headcount. I mentioned nothing about who we
were at all. When we arrived, none of the staff seemed at all
surprised.

>>>Well, wasn't for me, too tired.

>I don;t know anything about this, except that it's past my bed-time.

This is a cult film. Some people regard it as a satire of SF films,
and others regard it as decadent absurdity. Still, others regard it
as a chance to dress up, throw things, and have a great time.

There's quite a crossover between the RHPS crowd and the t* community.
If you've never seen it, you can't understand it. (Don't dream it,
be it.)

>>>Yes. Start things off with a big bash! Maybe a wine&cheese mixer.

>>If anything like a wine and cheese party is to happen, there are two

>>Concensus that I am hearing (anybody correct me if they disagree) is

>Well, I disagree. On my first night out, I don't want it to be in
>the middle of a busy mall with tourist crowds and all that.

See notes above. I'm sure you misunderstood.

>>>Put together an excurson to a plus-size dress shoppe. Some morning
>>>would be good, they are slow. There's got to be a shoppe in Vegas
>>>that's open and friendly.

>I would love this. I dream of going shopping in real life.

Then do it. Go for it. No reason at all not to. I'm sure there will be
group shopping things this coming year, as there have been in the past.
Again, this is real-world experience you won't fine elsewhere.

>>>And also, don't center everything around drinking. You don't have
>>>to drink to have a good time. And please, don't encourage everyone
>>>to drive after a night of drinking.

>Let me play Devils Advocate here. I know it's not PC to drink like
>fish anymore, but I'm sure everybody's going to be nervous, and
>having a few drinks helps lots. Think of it as medicine.

Drinking is always optional, and there is no pressure on a non-drinker
to drink, nor is there pressure on a drinker to overdrink. Many of our
people enjoy, responsibly I might add, a few drinks, and our people
like the places that serve alcohol. Plus, places like Goodtimes, Keys,
and the like give us good service and appreciate our business. I see no
need to move any official or informal DLV activities away from places
like these.

Anyway, I hope this addresses your concerns. If you have any more
comments or concerns, fire away. Hope to see you in May.

Car rental underage:

>I am 24 years old..the only thing I
>*might* have trouble with is getting a rental car. If you know of
>companies that rent to the under 25 crowd, then let me know.

A quick phone call to one of our TA's got the following: Of all the
major rental firms, Dollar and Alamo are the only ones who go after the
21-25 age market. Both have a daily surcharge for < 25 drivers from $5
per day to $25 per day, depending on vehicle type, location, and phase
of the moon. Both require that the primary driver present a major
credit card (Visa debit cards are not accepted) in the name of the
underage driver.

Some regionals and independents will rent to < 25 drivers (some as low
as 18 years), and some will accept a cash deposit in the range of $500
or so in lieu of a credit card.

Suggestions were:

1. Make a reservation directly with the company, not thru a travel
agent. (This was a travel agent who said this.)

2. When you make the reservation, plainly state that you are under
25, but have a major credit card (not debit card) in your name, and
that you have a clean driving record.

3. Verify that cars are available to < 25 drivers at the location
you want and for the dates you want.

4. Verify the daily rate and the surcharge for underage.

5. Ask them to mail or fax you a confirmation that includes the fact
that the primary driver will be under 25.

Personally, I've rented from both Dollar and Alamo in Las Vegas (I sure
wish I had the problem of being under 25). Seems like a coin-flip as to
which one will have better rates. Dollar is right in the airport
terminal, Alamo is off-airport with a shuttle bus to/from the terminal.
Lines seem to be shorter at Dollar, but that can vary I'm sure.
