Making some definite plans:
It's now the beginning of October, and about two months until the
holiday season hits hard. Around that time we will want to wind down
this list, and around New Years we'll start up the main DLV2000 list.
Before that list starts, I would like to see a few things happen, or
rather a few things decided.
I would like to set in stone the dates/times for DLV 2000, to allow
people to make definite plans and reservations, etc. Historically we've
seen a dip in airline fares in January, and we want our people to take
advantage of that, should the decrease happen this next year.
I would also like to see us agree on a tentative list of things we want
to do, and a first-draft schedule.
In particular, I would like to discuss and settle the Thursday vs.
Friday starting issue (see below). I realize that we've had requests to
stretch things out, but I do see the advantage of a Friday kickoff as
being more convenient for many peoples' schedule.
If you have an opinion of a Thursday vs. a Friday starting time, please
state your preference. (Simply reply to this message.)

Awsk Nawt ...
... what DLV can do for you, ask what you can do for DLV!
Seriously, as DLV was winding down, and we were saying our goodbyes
and the like, a number of people remarked to the effect of ".. if
there's anything I can do to help ...".
Well, gang, there are things to do. DLV has gotten too big for one
person to coordinate everything.
What I would like everybody to do over the next couple months is to
think long and hard about the things we have discussed since DLV99,
and about the activities and things you would like to see happen.
Then, be thinking of those activities and events that you would be
willing to help coordinate, and what has to be done to make them
happen.
Things can be simple, for example, if a group dinner is high on your
priority list, all that needs to be done is to find a restaurant that
is popular with the group and make a reservation, etc., etc. Or ...
... things can be as elaborate as you are willing to coordinate.
Anyway, if we spread the load of the legwork around, no one person or
small group gets burned out, and everybody can get maximum enjoyment
out of DLV.
We already have some volunteers to do some things. One person is looking
in to a meeting room and/or group rates, and another has volunteered to
drive another vehicle if necessary, to help everybody get around.
And yes, I'll be coordinating a few things myself. :)

Our starting date/time:
>>For the record, we did have a definite starting time, Friday evening at
>>7:00pm. The only item we had before was the pre-DLV get-together on
>>thursday, but that was in no way a start of the event. That was only
[snip]
>Say, am I missing something? I think I remember you saying you were
>going to start it on Thursday next year?
That has not been decided yet. I tossed that out as a response to the
comments that people wanted a longer DLV.
>If I've got a vote here, I
>vote to keep it starting on Friday.
So noted. Yes, you do have a vote. If anybody else has comments about
this, please speak.
>I can't take Friday off, but I
>can be in Vegas by 7-8PM. Can't make in Thursday at all.
Yes, I think this is a major consideration to when we officially start.
If we have people who will be attending for sure, but can't make
Thursday evening, the earlier start is probably out of the question.

Drinking and passing:
>Two things regarding the last update:
>Drinking-- I don't drink, and never have. However, working in politics
>I have probably been in more bars than any 3 average people combined.
>I drink softdrinks or juice. Never have a problem. So, get-togethers
>at Goodtimes, Keys, etc., is just fine with me. If any of the girls
>had to much to drink I certainly did not notice it.
Thanks. I'm glad to see that the others had this impression. Overall,
I think we're a well-behaved group. :)
>Passing-- We all realize that most CD's do not pass. However, that is
>no reason to not go out in public. Some of the girls I know could
>look much, much better with better makeup and more appropriate dress.
>Just a suggestion--- If anyone who plans to attend, is concerned about
>how they look, maybe we can help a little before DLV. So, anyone who
>would like some constructive criticism could send a pic of themselves
>to you. A close-up would be best. With their permission you could
>forward their pic to the group for some helpful advice.
You may not know this, but mailing list processors do a very bad job of
handling binary attachments, so I think it's best if we post any
pictures in a semi-private area on the web. We could even have a DLV
gallery. :)
If anybody wants to post pictures for critique, please send them using
a standard MIME or uuencode file attach directly to annie@annie.net and
not to the list. I'll move them over to the web and post the URL here.

T-friendly shops:
>>>Put together an excurson to a plus-size dress shoppe. Some morning
[munch]
>>We've had shopping trips the past two years. Most likely this will
[clip]
>I think you missed my point. Find a friendly shoppe and make a group
>appointment. Maybe after hours, I've heard some of the groups do it
>this way. Much more discrete, plus you aren't bothered with things
>like if your able to use the changing room. I think I heard a couple
>girls talking about a friendly shoppe out in the suburbs a while back.
I'm sure something like this could be arranged, given demand and
somebody to arrange it.
Over the past three years, we've simply patronized the regular malls
and shops during normal business hours, and nobody reported any
difficulty at all. Everybody seemed to enjoy the experience, whether it
was their first time out shopping, or simply routine to them.
Question to the group: Would there be a demand for such a thing as a
private opening of a dress shop? Remember that if a shop opens off
hours for something like this, they are expecting a certain amount of
sales, and not just browsers. :)

Gags and such:
>+>If your going to do gags and in-jokes, please tell the others what
>+>is so funny. You feel like a real dummy when everybody else is
>+>laughing and you don't know what is going on.
>Oh come on! That was just good clean fun! Just shows what a good
>natured and fun group they are. I just wish the support groups
>would lighten up a bit, they are so serious most of the time.
>This was a happy, fun, group, and I wish I could of stayed for
>the rest of the week.
Thanks. I admit we have a very jovial and fun-loving group. I don't
see any need to change that.

Society at large:
>> >I think I would like to attend, but I am very worried because I don't
>> >pass very well at all, I am 6'6" and 340lbs. This is a real problem for
>> >me and I need some advise from someone who is in similar situation.
>> As I've said before, one of the ladies who attended last year, who I
>> regard as passable almost to the point of being undetectable, is far
>> from a lightweight. She dressed appropriately, both in casual and
>> dressy settings, had the right carriage and attitude, and nobody even
>> gave her a second glance.
>Actually, I remember several girls from 99 who could be considered
>heavy (including me!!!). A couple were over 6' tall, and one was at
>least 6' 2". I wore some 5" heels so I could join that exclusive club
>for one evening. <grin>
>Check out the online pictures at the DLV Web site
>(www.geekbabe.com/dlv/)
>and you will see lots of broad shoulders and big arms. After all,
>we're CDs, not ballerinas. <big grin>
>Seriously, DLV is a cross-section of society at-large (i.e., all shapes
>and sizes). I'm sure you'll fit in.
Yes, we are a varied group, not only by size and shape, but by age,
background, lifestyle, and where we fit on the t* spectrum. The good
thing is that everybody gets along. :)
