Shyness in public:

>Shy girls who have not been out in public are missing out on a lot. I
>have never met one girl who regretted going out in public with some
>friend, such as attend DLV.

I agree. The nervousness goes away very fast. Most who I have talked
to say their only regret is to have waited so long to get out.

>And Las Vegas is maybe the best city in
>the country to get your feet wet, so to speak.

I would tend to agree with this. While places like Provincetown and Key
West are more openly GLBT-friendly, Las Vegas has some added advantages.
In the tourist areas, people are so engrossed in doing their own thing,
that they seldom notice anything, and those who do don't care.

Idea for consideration:

>A thrift shop sale of our own. I have lots of clothes I no longer
>wear, and would be willing to sell. I bet other girls do also. If we
>get a meeting room (and I agree this is a good idea), we could have a
>sale of our own for a couple of hours one afternoon.

Only thing negative I can think about this is the hassle of bringing
stuff along (like in baggage on a plane) and carting back what does not
sell. We recently had such a thing at the local RCGA group, and there
was some griping about having to haul back (locally, in a car) what did
not sell. Some people even reduced their price to $0.00 toward the end
of the evening, rather than take stuff back.

>Is there any interest in this?

Ladies? (and Gentlemen?)

>>>YOu asked about The Red Rooster. Url: www.vegasredrooster.com.

>>Uh, {blush} well <bfg>, I think it's best if we leave it to those who
>>are interested in such a thing to go on their own. :)

>I would think that you of all people had figured that out!

Actually, I didn't give it much thought. I was kinda waiting for the
person who suggested it (or anybody else) to give more info. I'm far
from being a prude, but I think it's obvious that it's something we
don't wanna promote as an official DLV activity. :)

If people want to go there, individually or as a group, they are of
course free to do so.

Passing thoughts:

>>>That's just fine for those of you who are young and cute and slim and
>>>pass just perfectly. Some of us can't pass and might feel better if we
>>>had someplace less public to hang out at.

>Would it be possible to have a professional come in, like a
>cosmetologist or something, and give all of us some pointers and
>critique each of us? I know when they ask me what I think, many
>times I don't want to hurt feelings, so I kind of avoid answering
>so an outside professional would be more honest.

This is regularly done at the mainline t* conventions. People like Jim
Bridges will lecture, give informal advice and answers, and of course
do individual makeovers and personal consultations. They usually ain't
cheap, however.

:)

I've been told that Jim Bridges is scheduled for both Fantasia Fair
(mid October) and Fall Harvest this year.

If the people attending DLV want such a thing, I'm sure it can be
arranged. It would cost boocoo bux to fly Jim Bridges in, but I'm
sure there would be local people who could do this for less, such as
possibly one or both of the Mary Kay people who have expressed interest
in our business.

Feedback? What does everybody think? Is there a demand for this?

Yeah, off-topic I admit, but cute, and it was sent to the list. :)

>Pardon me, but why is everybody so BLANKEY-BLANK hungup about passing!!!
>I am who I am and if somebody doesn't like it, they can lump it!!!!

Well, uh ... They say (the ubiquitous "they") that femininity is a
state of mind. But it's also a way of relating to others, and
presenting to others. Having the image to go with the mindset is
important to most, I would say.

>There's no way a gang of 20 TV's can go anywhere and not get read. You
>might as well get used to it.

I will agree with you on that. (My theory here is that the magic number
is about 3, far less than 20.) That's one reason we tried to encourage
everybody to not hang around in medium to large groups when on the
Strip, downtown, etc. Of course in places like the showroom at the
Plaza where we filled two large tables, it's gonna happen, but as you
saw, there were no incidents, and nothing more than some curious
glances.

For those who have not heard the story, overheard Monday morning
at the Riviera breakfast buffet: "... I think about half of them
were {sic} real girls."

>Vegas is great, because nobody gives a
>rat's tutu, but let's not be so obsessed we can't have fun!

I agree with you on that too. It's a place where you >can< have fun
without being overly concerned about every minute detail about your
dress and presentation.
