An apology:

Sorry for being late with this list as well as a number of related DLV
things. It's been a hectic month or so, and I've been out of town quite
a bit, plus there was one item that I wanted to give a bit of thought
on before replying personally and composing a response for the list.

We got stalled on our virtual door prize thing. In the next day or so
I promise I'll get caught up and let the remaining winners get their
choices in, and get the items shipped out.

It has been rather slow over the past 3 weeks or so, and there really
has not been much in the way of items coming in.

Thanks. I just pulled up the page.

Uh, {blush} well <bfg>, I think it's best if we leave it to those who
are interested in such a thing to go on their own. :)

RHPS virgin preshow comments:

This was sent to me in regards to the RHPS preshow antics. I think all
of our group were good sports about it, although some were kinda
surprised at what went on ....

>> Since then, I've seen all sorts of humiliations visited upon virgins,

>This is an increasing problem (as I see it).

Timing and schedules:

>>I'm proposing that we schedule DLV 2000 to run from Thursday evening,
>>May 11, thru Tuesday, May 16. N+I winds down significantly on Thursday,
>>so I don't think there will be problems with reservations or crowds.

>I think that's a bit long. How about doing it from Tuesday or Wednesday
>with the big Finale on Saturday night?

Each year so far, feedback has said that a longer DLV is wanted.

Tuesday and Wednesday will definitely run into the peak of the N+I crowd.
A few of our people who came early this year ran into the higher hotel
rates for those days.

The good thing about something like DLV is that it's flexible for just
about everybody. If you want to come on Wednesday, and have Saturday
evening as the finale before departure, you can do it that way. Those
who came early this year will agree with me that there is certainly
not a shortage of things to do ... in either mode.

I'm gonna speak very freely here, so please bear with me. At DLV99,
actually at all three years, there was not a single person who, with
some attention to detail and ATTITUDE (note the emphasis), could not
pass.

Not everybody could be a Barbie Doll, but everybody there could be
(and was) presentable and, yes, passable.

The person I would consider the most passable, to the point of being
almost undetectable, was far from slim, but she dressed appropriate to
each occasion, and did not attempt to dress or act like something she
was not.

>... might feel better if we
>had someplace less public to hang out at.

I can understand that, but a number of the places we visited at DLV are
just as safe as any closet. :) What we are doing is not by any means
new or radically different to Las Vegas, especially to the GLBT
community in Las Vegas, which does include the cast and staff of both
major FI shows. We are not even a novelty to the staff at places like
Keys and Goodtimes, as well as the other customers. They see this all
the time.

>>I don't see this replacing our many planned and impromptu get-togethers
>>at Keys/Goodtimes/Freezone/whatever, or any of the more exciting things
>>that go on.

>Maybe a couple excusions out, to a show or something, and maybe some
>group sight-seeing, but really, I would feel much more comfortable in
>a place I knew to be safe. It's really un-nerving to have to look over
>your shoulder everyplace you go.

I can understand that some people are not ready to go public, even in
circumstances that are considered totally safe. With all due respect,
and not to discourage anybody from attending, Diva Las Vegas may not be
for them. There are many other activities that may be more to the
liking of those who need a bit more of a feeling of security, mostly in
the form of local support groups and regional/national t* conventions,
such as Fantasia Fair, Fall Harvest, Be-All, etc. (Throw a dart at a
calendar, you will be within a few weeks of one of these.)

Again, speaking very freely, I don't see how we can possibly make DLV
less "public" without doing away with the climate and atmosphere that
made DLV popular.

What we can do is offer support and encouragement to those who are a
bit shy or unsure of appearing in public. Each year we've seen people
appear in public for the first time, and in all cases I'm aware of
they were well-supported by the group, and there were no regrets.

>>1. Would you make use of a meeting/hospitality room?

>Yes, I would.

Actually, this is the first response to these questions that has come in.

>>2. How much would you be willing to pay for this? (How much is it worth
>>to you?) Another way of putting it might be: Are you willing to pay
>>$12 or so for the use of this over your stay?

>Is that $12.00 a day, or for the whole week?

The figures I posted were an estimate for each person for the entire
DLV period, assuming the majority of the people attending contribute to
it. IMAO, $12 overall would be well worth it, $12 per day would not.
