Some general thoughts:
As we expand and grow, some added formalization and complexity is
unavoidable. We do have to make more complete plans and schedules,
otherwise things will simply turn to chaos. I don't know if our
attendance will indeed double again, as it has up until now, but I
think we can safely say we will have a significantly larger group next
year.
A number of the things that have been suggested are going to take some
volunteer help to coordinate. Without this, they simply will not
happen.
So far we have relied entirely on facilities that are available to the
general public. Places like Goodtimes and Keys don't mind us having
medium-size get-togethers there, as they bring in bar business, lots
of it. :)
Looking at the big picture, my personal preference for DLV is to
retain the informality and the real-world experience, along with the
flexibility for everybody's individual schedule and personal
preferences. I don't want to see DLV morph into a one-price
one-size-fits-all "package" to which everybody must subscribe, and (not
to sound like a stuck CD) I certainly don't wanna see it to become yet
another semi-closeted T* convention with the Rubber Chicken Banquet<tm>
and obligatory boring keynotes. (Why? Because there are certainly more
than enough of these already, if people want this instead of an
informal vacation.) I also want to see DLV remain affordable to those
on a tight budget.
I don't see any objection to such things as group dinners and even such
things as shared hospitality rooms, as long as those are options for
those who wish to partake, and as long as there are volunteers to make
the arrangements to make them happen.
Personally, I would much rather have a welcome get-together on the town
in a semi-quiet club such as Goodtimes, than I would in a meeting room,
for example. That's just me and my likings.
Anyway, I would suggest this to anybody who wants to see various things
happen at DLV2000:
1. Think of the items that you would like to see happen that YOU are
willing to help organize and coordinate.
2. Share your thoughts with the group, here on this list. Get feedback.
3. Think of a plan of action, and have this more or less ready right
after the new year of 2000.
We'll keep a running list of the various items we have in discussion and
append them to the mailings, so none of them will get cold as long as
there is interest.

Activity feedback:
I would like to start a discussion on what activities everybody liked,
which ones (if any) people did not like, and which ones should be
repeated or built upon for next year.
I'm copying the list from the final DLV99 mailing, and adding a few of
my comments. Please look this over and send to the list any comments,
feedback, suggestions, etc.
* Pre-DLV get-together, Thursday evening. 8:00pm Good Times.
This seemed to work out fine, imao. Several people were "fashionably
late".
.....
* Welcome get-together Friday May 14, 7:00pm.
Again, worked out fine, except I fell for the Galiano trick for the
second year in a row. :) I think Goodtimes is a very good venue for
things like this.
.....
* Driving/walking Strip tour, Saturday, May 15, 12:00 noon.
Only deviation from the plan was that many of the people (myself
included) opted to get something to eat rather than explore the
properties on the second stop.
.....
* Boylesque (Kenny Kerr) Saturday evening, 8:00pm
Plaza Hotel, Downtown (Foot of Fremont St.)
I enjoyed this, and so did most everybody else, from what I heard. We
had a few people who were almost-too-fashionably-late, one who missed
it totally. Bunny and (somebody) missed the directions to the Plaza lot
and ended up parking in the city lot down by the old neon signs and
walking (heels) all the way up to the Plaza.
.....
* Rocky Horror Picture Show. Saturday night, 12:00 midnight
Paradise Dollar Theater (Tropicana at Pecos)
This wasn't for everybody, but I think everybody who went had a good
time. (And some thought we were just going to see a movie. :)
.....
* Hoover Dam tour, Sunday May 16, 2-ish
This is something we were very fortunate to have. I know there were a
couple people who were a bit disappointed by the request to go in
boymode, but I didn't hear any major griping. Again, I want to thank
Bob for doing this, and those who went for cooperating with the request
to go in boymode.
.....
* La Cage (Frank Marino Show) Sunday evening, 9:30pm
Riviera Hotel, north Strip
There were some complaints about the seats here, (good view, but
cramped and crowded) and one about the lights swinging into her eyes,
but most people seemed to enjoy this too. (If anybody missed my story
of overhearing comments about the show and our group, let me know by
e-mail.)
Between the two, most I talked to seemed to like Kenny Kerr better,
though there were a few who liked La Cage better.
.....
* Mary Kay Open House, Monday afternoon (tentative)
Never happened. If you remember, back a few months before DLV,
makeovers were the hottest topic. I remember that on Sunday night, I
asked for a show of hands for those who would be attending the MK Open
House and not a single hand went up. Until that weekend, I was sure
we were going to have a good turnout for this.
.....
* Legends In Concert, Monday May 17, Imperial Palace (mid Strip)
Only a few people went, but those who did liked it. I did not go, I
was badly in need of some down-time, so I just crashed for a few hours.
.....
* Tour of various clubs, Monday evening.
Monday is apparently a dead night for these. I was unaware of this, and
some of the places were closed. I remember that everybody seemed to have
a good time. There were complaints about the service at the Hard Rock
following this.
.....
* Forever Plaid, Tuesday May 18, Flamingo. (mid Strip)
Didn't happen. Was everybody showed-out?
.....

A few remarks:
>There are several good thrift shops in Vegas. Several are on the
>Boulder Highway. The ones on Main St, are not all that good. I can
>just visualize several girls all figthing over the same dress :)
I think there's enough interest to do a thrift-shop tour, if you and
some of those who have been thrift-shopping in Las Vegas will send in
some recommendations and descriptions of the best places.

There have been a number of comments about how it would be nice to have
a meeting/hospitality room. Of course it will take two things to make
something like this happen:
1. $$$$$
2. Somebody to make the arrangements and to coordinate it.
Obviously, a sugar-mommy ain't gonna show up and pay for this. It will
have to be paid for by the people using it, either formally, like in a
charge for everybody, or informally, asking for contributions.

I don't see any problem with this.

Yes, and same as before, if somebody doesn't like what the group wants
to see, they are free to do something else, and will never run the risk
of being bored in Las Vegas.
>The only information that would be needed to start with is:

Yes, there are several, and I'll put this on the do-it list for when we
start the DLV2000 mailing list. I'll also add these to the links of
interest from the DLV2000 web page.

Feedback and comments:
>>>Restaurant Get together. I really think that at least one group meal is

Do you remember the names of those two places?
It looks like there is more than enough feedback to indicate that many
want something like this to happen. We can discuss things like when,
where, and such when we put the schedule together early next year.

I'm sure for something like this, any presentable mode of dress would
be quite appropriate. I didn't see this as meaning a costume would be
required. For example, I LOVE going to the RenFaire, but I'll just go
as I am, and (so far anyway) I don't do any period costumes.
>besides, that was really for the younger crowd.
Why, uh, thank you, uh, I think. :) :) At RHPS, most of the group was
casual, with a few going for costumes or more exotic outfits.
(Excellent! Under the circumstances, formal dress is to be OPTIONAL! :)
>>What did the rest of you think of the van arrangement? I didn't see any

I think everybody enjoyed the rides, and with the exception of some
delays due to traffic that left some people standing conspicuously
waiting for a while, there were no major problems.
I DO want to say thanks again for the donations of gas $$$ for this.
It was very much appreciated. :)

One option might be to have somebody rent a two or three room suite,
stay in it, and host(ess) the hospitality room. It would, of course,
require a volunteer to do this.
