Org List:

This is the DLV 2018 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_divalas.vegas)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Thanks everyone:

First of all, big thanks to all who have volunteered to coordinate
activities for DLV 2018! Our schedule is filling up and rounding out
very nicely!

We're planning on doing the first publication of the current working
schedule in this weekend's general mailing. Anything that's definite as
to day and time by Friday can appear on that schedule.

The good news this week is that both of our major single-track
gatherings are solid as of this time and we've also added several other
additional activities to the schedule.

All, please give the working schedule a good once-over. If anything is
missing (everything sent in with a definite "when" should have been
added by now), please scream loudly. Things have been happening very
fast over the past few days, so if anything does not look right, please
scream! :)

Our greatest need as of this time is for volunteers to host(ess) various
(mostly smaller and easier to do) dining, imbibing, social, touristy,
etc. activities to fill in the schedule at the points of need noted
below in the schedule review.

If your "name is called", please give us some kind of a response (even
if it's to the effect of "I'm thinking about it.") during this next ORG
list cycle.
. . . . . . . . . .

As of early Wednesday morning, we have 72 attendees signed up to attend.
This is kind of a difficult year for any apples-to-apples comparison,
since we did open up general registration last weekend. Returnee
re-registration emails went out a week and a day ago. This number is
with all "ringers" and test attendees removed.

This number includes 10 SOs, or about 13.8%. This is a somewhat lower SO
percentage than we've been seeing in recent years, but it's still early
in the process.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Opener at BB:

We've had two volunteers come forward to step in and take the baton on
the welcome festivities at Bahama Breeze.

These are, in order of received volunteer submission, Delaney and Sandy.

We wish to thank both Delaney and Sandy for volunteering to coordinate
this very important and long-lived and well-enjoyed function! :)

What we would like to do is let Delaney take the lead role as primary
Coordinator of record, and Sandy as named second-chair.

We'll be doing an "exchange of information" and hand-off between Dionne
and Delaney and Sandy within the next week.

This means that Monday evening is solid! Thanks go out to Dionne,
Delaney and Sandy for their efforts this year. :)

Schedule review - Discussion Schedule:

This is our first major schedule review for the 2018 event. We'll do a
few iterations here ...

This has been edited several times over the past few days, as things
have been happening very quickly. It should reflect about everything
that's current as of Tuesday evening. Please excuse any obvious human
errors.

New or inactive volunteers: Please note that any previous activity that
is marked "up for adoption" uses a known venue with a history of being
receptive to and welcoming of the DLV group. Please consider taking one
of these and helping us round out our 2018 schedule. Thanks.

First looking down from a FL 320 perspective ... :)

+Sunday, April 15:

Sunday is heading in the direction of being a "slow start" morning and
afternoon, with one strong social activity in the late afternoon.

We will do a multi-track HH/dinner scene on Sunday, and there will be
space in the evening for about any after dinner activities that anyone
wants to do. Two dining options are now in place, with one solid HH, and
one after-dinner option is also in place.
. . . . .

+Monday, April 16:

Monday is looking very good from a high-up view. See detailed notes
below.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 17:

Tuesday is shaping up very nicely as a featured activity morning and
afternoon and a multi-track evening.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, April 18:

Other than one fairly strong evening anchor activity, Wednesday is
Tabula Rasa. See below.
. . . . .

+Thursday, April 19:

Thursday is also looking good from a high-up perspective. See specific
notes below.
. . . . .

+Friday, April 20:

Friday is currently our "Greatest Needs" day. See specific notes below.
. . . . . . . . . .

Now, second iteration, concentrating on details, weak spots, areas of
concern, areas of greatest need, etc.

+Sunday, April 15:
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 2:00pm: On-site DLV check-in (Flamingo) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Afternoon Social (Carnaval Court) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 5:00pm: Virgil's Happy Hour (Virgil's BBQ - Linq) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Cornish Pasty option (Cornish Pasty) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Virgil's BBQ option (Virgil's BBQ - Linq) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Burlesque Revue (Artiface) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Paris Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Summary for Sunday:

Strengths: Strong social activity late afternoon, which should draw
a good crowd. Two dining and one entertainment option form the basis
 of a good multi-track evening.

Weaknesses: Morning totally open. (MCC?) At least one other evening
HH/meal option needed. One or more additional after dinner options
 needed.

Greatest needs: Dining activities (with Happy Hour) and after-dinner
 options.

Specific suggestions: Happy hour and dinner in the general vicinity
of Linq/Harrah's/Flamingo or elsewhere. Informal/inexpensive places
such as Chayo, Brooklyn Bowl, (Flour and Barley? Feelin' lucky, are
ya? :) Huh?), Food Court(s), maybe? Margaritaville?
. . . . .

+Monday, April 16:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Kozy Koffee Korner (Flamingo Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Aejaie (tba) - ms
+ 2:00pm: On-site DLV check-in (Flamingo) - ms
+ 5:00pm: New attendee Welcome and Orientation (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Welcome Happy Hour (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dinner (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 8:30pm: Welcome Meet and Greet (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Official Group Photo (Bahama Breeze) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Paris Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Strengths: Evening is solid with a popular lineup.

Weaknesses: Morning and early afternoon are totally open.

Greatest needs: Actually, no major needs for Monday. Specific needs are
far more important on other days. Daytime things would be nice to have,
 however.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, April 17:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Kozy Koffee Korner (Flamingo Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Sunrise Golf Club) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Luv Ur Look Luncheon (TBA) - ms
+ 2:00pm: On-site DLV check-in (Flamingo) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour options (various) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Ruth's Chris option (Ruth's Chris Harrah's) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Carmine's option (Carmine's Caesars) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Giordano option (Giordanos Bally's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Dining options (various) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ruth's Chris option (Ruth's Chris Harrah's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Carmine's option (Carmine's Caesars) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Giordano option (Giordanos Bally's) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Evening activity options (various)
+ 9:00pm: Jennifer Lopez concert (Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Big Lift Bar Crawl (Begin at Flamingo) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Paris Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Strengths: Known popular activities for morning and early afternoon.
Good selection for HH/Dinner options. Two strong options in the
 evening.

Weaknesses: None, really. :)

Greatest needs: Our greatest needs are on other days.

Specific suggestions: Another show would fit quite well in the evening.
Morning and afternoon would be appropriate times for tourist or
recreational type of thing as a second-track option opposite golf.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, April 18:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Kozy Koffee Korner (Flamingo Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Aejaie (tba) - ms
+ 8:30pm: DLV Treasure Hunt (Begin at Flamingo) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Paris Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Weaknesses: Morning and afternoon totally open!

Greatest needs: Daytime activities of all types. This would be a good
day for such things as tennis, mini-golf, Art Tour, Pinball, Side
 trips, etc. Evening dining options.

Specific suggestions: Tennis and/or mini-golf in the daytime. Art Tour
in the daytime. PF Chang (Sara?) would be a very good fit as a mid
scale HH and dining activity as well as Trevi (Laura?).
. . . . .

+Thursday, April 19:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Kozy Koffee Korner (Flamingo Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Topgolf (Topgolf) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (Off The Strip Bistro) - mv
+ 7:00pm: Farewell Dinner (Off The Strip Bistro) - mv
+ 9:30pm: Limousine Tour (Begin at Linq) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Carnaval Court) - ms

Strengths: Popular afternoon activity in place. Strong after-dinner
option in place.

Weaknesses: Morning wide open.

Greatest needs: As with Monday and Tuesday, Thursday is not a great
needs day as of this time.

Specific suggestions: Thursday would be a good day for a side trip
beginning in the morning and lasting to early afternoon. Art Tour
would work well on Thursday morning/afternoon.
. . . . .

+Friday, April 20:
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Afternoon Social (Carnaval Court) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Nite Dancing (Paris Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Strengths: One strong mid-afternoon social activity.

Weaknesses: Morning totally open! Evening HH and dinner totally open.
 No currently-planned after-dinner activities.

Greatest needs: Daytime and evening activities. Our actual greatest
need is for three or so small-scale or two mid-scale dining activities
 in the evening.

Specific suggestions: HH and dining options. Various other activities.
. . . . . . . . . .

Finally, a third go-round, listing a number of recurring or previously
popular activities that may be good candidates for this year.

* Metropolitan Community Church. This used to be popular on Sunday
morning but we have not done this for a few years. Only reason is that
nobody volunteered to host(ess) it. As of this time, nobody has first
refusal rights at this time, so it's up for adoption.

* Bare Minerals Makeup Sessions. Up for adoption. We'll need someone to
take this over if it's to happen this year. The staff knows us well, so
there will be no awkward cold calling. Preliminary contact has been made
for 2018. Contact info on request. More discussion below.

* MAC Makeup Lessons Nordstroms. Lori has first refusal rights. Lori?
Are you "go" on this for 2018?

* Nordstroms YSL Makeovers. Sara (no "h") has first refusal rights.
Sara?

* Studio Lites Open House. We've been getting good reports about the new
reopened shop. Low maintenance activity. They know our group well. No
cold calling! Up for adoption.

* Just You Open House. Similar to above. Only reason we have not had
this recently is that nobody volunteered to host(ess) it. Again, no cold
calling! Up for adoption.

* Social at The Center. Bobbie has first refusal rights to do this again
this year. Bobbie? Is this a "go" for 2018?

* Kiss Monster Mini-Golf. Another highly-rated (and highly photographed)
new activity for 2017. Sarah (with the "h") has first refusal rights for
2018. Sarah?

* Pistol and rifle shooting. We show Gina as having first refusal rights.
Gina, wanna give this a "shot" for 2018? :)

* High Tea. Long-running and very consistently-highly-rated. Marilyn has
current first refusal rights. Marilyn? Is this on for 2018?

* Dining options. These are the dining options which scored well in
recent years which are not currently on our 2018 schedule.

Those having first refusal rights for 2018 are listed in parentheses,
if applicable. Please consider those marked "up for adoption" as known
vetted suggestions for those who want to do an activity but are not
currently scheduled to do so.

Pamplemousse Dining Option (Delaney?)
Ricardo's dining option (Randi?)
Center Cut dining option (Cami?)
Margaritaville dining option (Sandy?)
Nora's Cuisine dining option (Delaney?)
PF Chang dining option (Sara?)
Trevi dining option (Laura?)

Magnolia dining option (up for adoption)
Denny's Neonopolis Dining option (up for adoption)
Hofbrauhaus dining option (up for adoption)
Taj Place dining option (up for adoption)
Morton's Dining Option (up for adoption)
TGIF dining option (up for adoption)
Chayo dining option (up for adoption)
Bacio Dining option (up for adoption)
Texas de Brazil dining option (up for adoption)
Palm Dining Option (up for adoption)

These are only the proven-track-record suggestions. New and novel
activities of all types (see Big Lift below as a good example) are
encouraged.
. . . . . . . . . .

Late-breaking news:

Sarah (with the "h") will be coordinating an Art Tour and Stacy will be
doing the Tennis Tournament again, but it's too early for any details.
Also, Cami is reporting that a Creative Wigs thing is also in the works.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
New twist on the Bar Crawl:

Robin K. writes:

Ya, I'm leaning to the "big lift"

20-25 passenger party bus that's ours all evening

--each pre-pays $30ish
--We visit 3-4 bars, staying no more than an hour at each
--Begin around 9 leaving from Flamingo
--Bus leaves last bar for Flamingo 1-2am with any survivors
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Robin! :)

This sounds great! I would like to commend you on your plans. Very
explicitly stated and it's obvious that you've done your math. There
are very few unknown other than where and when.

Big Burning Question is when? :) From an off-line conversation it looks
like Tuesday evening is the best fit.

The next question will be the "where" question. You said Flamingo, so
that's covered.

You said the approximate price and you also said "pre-pay", which, IMAO,
is the only way to do it.

We'll get into the more specific details (payment instructions, exact
load-in location, etc.) as things progress.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Burlesque Revue:

Marisa writes:

I would like to put a burlesque show on the schedule on 4/15 (Sunday) at
the Artifice (LBGQ friendly). I'll be getting the details soon, but I
think the show will start at 8pm with about $10 cover and low priced
drinks.

There will be 4 or more girl and boy, very talented performers. I'm
including a 6pm dining option at the British themed "Cornish Pasty",
which is located across the street from the complex that the Artifice is
located in.

The dress code for the show can be considered somewhat relaxed, but
burlesque fashion (glitter, feathers, fishnets stockings, etc...) is
strongly encouraged.

The Artifice is in the 18b arts district, a growing area with new
buildings going up and remodeling too. This area has been developing and
growing a lot in the last 5 years. There is also a 10/1 shooting victims
memorial wall across the street from the Artifice, if anyone would like
to visit that.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Marisa. It's on the schedule. Please look it over and see if
everything is the way it should be.

The only Big Burning Question is if you want a happy hour to go along
with the dinner? Please let us know on this. (If so, where?)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Less is More:

Dionne writes:

Some of the ORG leaders have noticed I've scaled back my events for
2018.

-Welcome Dinner @ Bahama Breeze was a good experience but I just want to
go back to enjoying the conversation with the guests.

-Bare Minerals has changed store managers (again) and since I'm not
longer using their products, the time is right for someone else to take
this over. BM products are good for beginners and they do a wonderful
job making them feel & look great.

-LurL luncheon - Last year's event went well. The Kona Grill was
space-limited, resulting in turning away some guests which I want to
avoid this year.

By hosting just one event (Less), I hope to improve (More) the LurL for
2018.

I'm hosting the LurL luncheon, again for 2018 but with changes;

-The Tuesday timeslot is OK but I'm considering moving it elsewhere on the
schedule. This depends on finding a bigger and more suitable venue.

-One of the joys of hosting this event is working with Aejaie. I hope she
will be available again.

-The topic is HRT (cross-hormone therapy). This is the first time this
theme has been offered, to my knowledge @ DLV. From my personal HRT
experience, there's a strong need for proper TG healthcare.

-Jane Heenan, MFT has agreed to join us to provide support.

Since I have identified the topic, HRT and the leaders, Jane, Aejaie and
myself, the next item is to identify the location (and maybe timeslot).
I have eliminated The Center and Kona Grill. Bahama Breeze is an option
but since the Monday night reception is there, another venue would be
preferable. Moving this to Wed. lunch @ BB might be a viable option.

Other suggestions are welcome.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks for the info and your frankness. Please let me respond to your
talking points and line items here:

The last thing we want to do is to overload a volunteer! Overload leads
to burnout, which leads to drop-out. It's a cycle seen in many volunteer
organizations, including DLV.

What we ask for of our volunteers is to meaningfully contribute to at
least one DLV activity and you are one who has done more than your fair
share over the past several years. You (and all) should always feel free
to limit your commitments to your comfort level. It's your vacation too
and everyone wants you to enjoy it!

Anyway, let's go over the list and review each item.

1. Bahama Breeze. We're on solid ground with two volunteers, both who
are established DLV veteran volunteers. We'll do an off-line email
between all this coming week to facilitate any needed exchange of
information.

2. Bare Minerals. No bites so far, but the need is listed in the review
above. Yes, turnover is unfortunately common in retail. I made a point
of introducing myself to the (then) new manager when I was in LV, but
some of the other staff remembered me.

3. LurL luncheon.

Let's discuss.

As for the day and timeslot, Tuesday would put LurL up against golf,
which does not exhaust your potential participant base, but does
decrease it somewhat, and vice-versa, actually.

We have Lunch With Aejaie scheduled for Wednesday, so it would be an
easy flip-flop to make. Currently late morning and early afternoon on
Wednesday are open.

If I were hostessing LurL, I would probably move it to Wednesday. Your
call. :)

BB does come to mind immediately as a place which would probably let you
have the room in exchange for the food and bar business. IMAO I do not
think re-use of BB for a lunch-and-learn type of thing would be much of
an issue. However, it's a drive or a taxi/Uber ride for most of our
folks.

Perhaps a place such as Chayo at the Linq would do a similar arrangement
if you ask.

Anyone else have any other location suggestions?

As to the topic and the SME, that would be a great introductory Activity
Highlight to start those off, as soon as the day/time and location are
set.
. . . . .

Cami responds:

Dionne

Thanks for filling Us in and I apologize I didn't get back to you but I
have been struggling for over a month with a shoulder issue.

I personally would like to see you move it to Wednesday afternoon and
although Bahama Breeze is always great I think we can probably put
something together at one of the restaurants at the Linx Promenade,
which might drive the attendance up if people can just walk to it.

The topic sounds interesting and I encourage you to keep putting plans
together.

Thanks.
