Org List:
This is the DLV 2018 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_divalas.vegas)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Welcome back:
Hopefully everyone survived the holidays and things are getting back to
normal for you.
We're getting back on track organizing out 2018 event, which is about 14
weeks away.
The good news this year is that our organizing schedule is not as tight
as it was for 2016 and 2017. We do not want to procrastinate, however,
as the clock is indeed ticking. :)
. . . . .
This mailing contains everything ORG-related which was received since
our last volunteer mailing. If you sent in anything and do not see any
reference to it, please accept our apology and remind us or resend.
. . . . .
We're asking all, particularly those who are local to Las Vegas and
those who visit frequently, to look over our Big List items toward the
end of this mailing. Please reply if you know of any which are now
closed, have moved, or listed at a wrong address. TIA! :)
. . . . .
For those who have not booked their hotel yet, the URL to book the
Flamingo using the special DLV rates is:

Bahama Breeze:
One of our highest-priority items on our plate at this time is to get a
continuing primary Coordinator for this year's opening festivities at
Bahama Breeze for Monday evening of DLV week.
The initial contact has been made (thanks again, Dionne!) so most of the
"Heavy Lifting" is complete. No cold calling, no explaining the nature
of the group to the vendor, none of that!
There are some details to be worked out WRT the entertainment, if you
choose to use the guitarist we've been using for several years, and if
you wish to do any theming, special twists, etc., that will be up to
you.
This would be a good activity for someone who has coordinated smaller
DLV activities in the past and wants to move up into more of a
significant leadership position within DLV.
Thanks to all for your consideration. :)

Immediate future items:
Re-registration emails went out Tuesday and the re-registrations have
started to trickle in.
If you did not receive your re-registration email, please let us know,
as everyone on the ORG list who has not already registered for DLV 2018
should have received this. If you are not already registered and did not
receive this on Tuesday, something is wrong and we need to check it out,
so please let us know if this applies to you.
A general mailing will be sent out this weekend and it will announce
that registration (returnee and newbee) is open.
. . . . .
Our immediate job is to catch up and resume the activity planning.
Please look over the working schedule below and scream loudly if you
notice anything wrong. We will do a detailed schedule review next week.

Whither EHM:
Sherry writes:
I don't see EHM penciled in this year. Did we decide the group is tired
of it? Stacy handled it last time. Maybe she's still working on it?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
It's not on the schedule yet this year, because nobody has made any
specific plans for it yet. You and Stacy have "first refusal rights" to
coordinate the Erotic Heritage Museum affair this year.
As far as I know, nobody is "working on it" for 2018 yet.
Here are some of my freely-spoken (or rather typed) comments and
suggestions.
Yes, I've heard the comments, as you probably have too, that the EHM is
becoming "same old same old", "been there, done that" and such. However,
when we look at the survey enjoyment responses for the past two years,
we see a pattern very similar to some other activities in the past, such
as the Kings Of Hustler, which had a two-year run a few years ago.
+2016: Erotic Heritage Museum, Wednesday: 4.47 (34 responses)
+2017: Erotic Heritage Museum, Tuesday, March 28: 4.60 (30 responses)
You will notice that attendance (or at least responses) were down
somewhat in 2017 compared to 2016, BUT the average enjoyment score was
higher for the smaller crowd in 2017!
I interpret this to mean that those in the "same old same old" school of
thought skipped it, and those who really enjoy such things attended in
2017 and did indeed enjoy it. (4.60 out of that many responses is VERY
good!)
Personally, I've always enjoyed it. My only negative comment was the
lack of convenient beverage service for 2017. IMAO you will get a larger
crowd, and they will stick around longer, if adult beverages are
conveniently available. Yes, you can fairly easily walk to a next door
strip club and take out from the bar there, but I really did not see
very many of our people doing it.
Anyway, I can envision two approaches for an EHM activity this year.
First would be an "anchor" type of activity, the way it's been done in
the past, meaning it's the primary featured activity of the evening, but
other alternate-track activities are planned as well. The way our
schedule is falling into place, Wednesday would probably be the best for
a larger "anchor" type of affair.
Second would be a more informal visit to EHM as one option on one of our
multi-track evenings. Tuesday is the only evening we've designated so
far as a multi-track evening, and a smaller more informal EHM visit
would work well as an after-dinner activity that night.
In any case, I do believe we have a need for at least one activity where
it's appropriate (and even encouraged) to dress in costume or more
exotic attire, and EHM is a very good venue for such an activity.

How can you help:
Robin K. writes:
SO, What can I volunteer for??
First attended last year, and volunteered to volunteer this year
I'm no idiot, put on meetings for 20+ people for my work. Looks like you
need someone for welcome, but I dont fit your requirements. Got a list I
can pick from?
I once imagined hosting a bar crawl while reading the survey responses,
but that looks complicated.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks Robin.
I looked up your original volunteer submission, and it says that you're
game for "about anything" so you have countless options. :)
Since you mentioned a Bar Crawl, I'll comment on that first, as I have
first-hand experience coordinating (and attending) these. :)
Over the years we've had basically three types of bar crawls:
1. Driving by carpool to a number of off-Strip bars and clubs, most of
them being "alternative" in nature.
2. The "Audrey Tour" concept, named after Audrey Hepburn's Holly
Golightly character. This has been on foot and via taxi to various more
upscale bars and lounges in the Strip area.
3. The "Bar Rescue" tour. This was a few years ago via a rented van with
a Designated Driver, visiting the places which were featured on the Bar
Rescue television series.
The only option above that requires any "heavy lifting" is that which
uses a rented van and designated driver.
If you want to do a bar crawl for DLV 2018, I might suggest something
along the line of an Audrey Tour (you could use that name or think up
something new) in option 2 above. Alternative bars have become less and
less popular with our people over the past few years, and the logistics
of arranging for (and paying for) a van can be a hassle.
Such an activity would fit fine in about any evening with the exception
of Monday and Thursday.
. . . . .
If you don't want to do a bar crawl, one of the better choices for a new
volunteer is to host(ess) a Happy Hour and Dinner on any evening that's
designated as multi-track for dinner. As of this time, Tuesday is, but
Sunday and/or Friday may be more of a need, and this really depends on
our upcoming schedule reviews.
You can do a minimalist approach and simply name a place, agree to be
there to welcome the others and direct traffic, and use available tables
for dinner.
You could also do a more formal thing with reservations and such.
. . . . .
You could also do one or more daytime activities. Touristy things (such
as museums, attractions), outdoorsy things (Red Rock Canyon, Valley Of
Fire), even side trips such as Death Valley or Area 51.
If you need any further suggestions, please say so. :)

Partial participation and volunteering:
William writes:
Hello, I can’t volunteer for DLV as my work schedule here in Texas got
changed! I had to reschedule my flight & vacation time, too.
I will be in Las Vegas April 12 - 17 only, so I can still “help out”
for just two days (15 - 16). I don’t really have an activity to
volunteer for or arrange since I’m not familiar with Vegas (only been
there once in ‘05 during the daytime).
I’m sorry but if there’s anything I can do please ask me! Thanks again.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks William! :)
There are plenty of options to help out on the two days that you will be
present, Sunday and Monday.
The most obvious thing for a new volunteer would be to host(ess) a Happy
Hour and Dinner on Sunday evening. Sunday will most likely (subject to
our schedule review next week) end up as multi-track in the evening.
Morning and early afternoon on Monday are wide open for about anything
there is to do in LV, such as touristy things, outdoorsy things,
shopping trips, etc.
Please let us know if you would like more specific suggestions.

QA-ing our Big List:
Web traffic always increases sharply in the months leading up to our big
event, and one of the most-viewed pages is the Big List of vendors,
clubs, restaurants, hotels, merchants, etc. This is also our number-one
"hit on" page from web searches.
We now have close to 200 listings on this page. We would like to give
this a good once-over to be sure the information on the page is current
and accurate.
Please look over this list. If you know of any vendor which is closed,
improperly listed, wrong address, etc., please reply to this mailing and
say so.
This list includes "red light" and "yellow light" entries as well.
Your efforts are appreciated! Thanks. :)
