This is the DLV 2018 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_divalas.vegas)

Motion seconded:

This is a quick mid-cycle mailing dealing only with the subjects related
to the dates for our 2018 event. All other items will be held for a
subsequent mailing.

Please keep an eye on those inboxes, as we'll be having (at least) two
related votes within the next few weeks.

The major item is that we've had two responses which can be considered
seconds of the motion to consider only April dates for our 2018 event.

We'll hold the floor open for discussion on this particular motion (only
consider April dates) for the remainder of this list cycle and then vote
on it prior to the actual date vote. Some comments on this are below.

Please remember, we're not actually voting on anything just yet. All
official votes will have clearly-marked special ballot mailings.

To many of our people, the date vote is the most important vote of the
year, and it's historically been very close in a number of years and at
times quite contentious. We'll be taking things slow and by the book in
order to give everyone's feelings and desires their due consideration.

In a few cases we've had individuals whose priority was to conclude the
date selection process as early as possible, for better or for worse.
For those who want to see a swift decision, there are two things that
you can do to help move things along. First is to avoid discussions
(motions, etc.) which cause the process to be extended. Second is to
return your votes as promptly as is possible.

Also please understand that when the polls are open and the voting is in
progress, those of us who are able to see the votes need to maintain as
close to "complete radio silence" as is possible. Therefore we need to
hold off on responding to any vote-related email until the results are
known. Your understanding and cooperation are appreciated.

I totally agree, Stay with April as a constant.

Annual events should be *Annual Events* and always withing a week or two
each year or they will start to lose participants. I find from running
an annual golf tourney here at home that People like uniformity whether
they say so publicly or not!

Keystone is 6-11 March 2018, so it will not conflict with any of the
proposed DLV dates.

For future reference, I believe three attended both events in 2017. If
there is an interest, I may be able to arrange for a more accurate count
in 2018,

I favor leaving the March date available for vote - my personal view is
the sooner I can flee the Northeast winter, the better :-)
