Six weeks:

We're now six weeks out from the big event.

We want to roll out Activity Sign-up by the first full week in March, so
that means that we have about 2-3 weeks to get things solid enough to do
that. This means that every activity which needs a headcount or a
sign-up will need to be nailed down with the details that the attendees
will need in order to decide on participation.
. . . . .

As of Wednesday morning our total confirmed headcount sits at 115, with
about one new registration coming in each day.
. . . . .

Thanks to all who have volunteered to host(ess) activities and to those
who have solidified plans to do so. Again, the schedule has had many
changes since last week's mailing, so please look it over. One rather
embarrassing typo was reported last week, so it does appear that you are
indeed reviewing things. :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Our greatest needs:

As of this time, Golf is our greatest need, and can be said to be in
jeopardy of not happening if nobody volunteers to take it over!

Beverly was in touch with someone who at one time expressed interest in
taking this on, but she is not really interested and we'll need a golfer
who is sufficiently interested to take this on if it's to remain on the
schedule.

Golfers?
. . . . .

Other than golf, we're looking good overall but we still have a few week
spots and we need a few volunteers to step in to take a few sessions of
some of the recurring activities.

All of these are fairly simple and an easy path to voting status.

+Sunday, March 26:
+ 12:00n: Lunch Without Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms

If Lunch With is to happen on Sunday, we'll definitely need someone to
host(ess) it. Flamingo Buffet is just a place holder. You can name any
place you like and it can be titled "Lunch With YOU" if you like.

With the addition of Magnolia's (thanks again, Vera) and Gold Spike
(thanks again, Marisa) we're well covered for imbibing and dining on
Sunday.

With Gold Spike, FSE, and LND downtown on Sunday, the schedule is
looking good for those timeslots for those who are comfortable in a
hardcore general public setting.

It would be nice to have a "safer" option for Sunday evening, mainly for
those who are new and those who are just not ready for the Fremont
Street Mob Scene on their first night out. Maybe Karaoke (or even just a
social get-together) at one of the safer bars such as Spotlight or
Phoenix?

+Tuesday, March 28:
+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Wildhorse Golf Club) - ms

Golf is our greatest need! See above.

+ 12:00n: Lunch Without Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms

Lunch With will also need a host(ess) on Tuesday. Very easy one, just
name a place and agree to be there and greet the others. Flamingo is
just a place holder. It can be anywhere you want.

+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour options (Various)
+ 5:00pm: Ricardo's Happy Hour (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Ruth's Chris Happy Hour (Ruths Chris - Harrahs) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Hofbrauhaus Happy Hour (Hofbrauhaus) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Eating Out Night (Various)
+ 6:00pm: Ricardo's dining option (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ruth's Chris dining option (Ruths Chris - Harrahs) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Hofbrauhaus dining option (Hofbrauhaus) - ms

Although we do have three popular options here, one more would not hurt.

+ 8:00pm: Erotic Heritage Museum (EHM) - mv

And again, there are some who would like an alternative to EHM, but we
do understand if nobody wants to skip EHM to plan something else.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, March 29:
+ 9:00pm: Limousine Tour (Caesars Palace) - ms

We could use a second-track option opposite the Limo Tour, as not
everyone will want to do that. Show? Something touristy?

+ 10:30pm: Late Night Dancing (Paris - Le Cabaret) - ms

Late Night Dancing does need a host(ess) on Wednesday. Paris is a place
holder and this can be someplace else if you wish.
. . . . .

+Thursday, March 30:
+ 12:00n: Lunch Without Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms

Lunch With needs a host(ess) on Thursday. Again, you name the place and
the title of the activity.
. . . . .

+Friday, March 31:
+
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (Various)
+ 6:00pm: Margaritaville Happy Hour (Margaritaville - Flamingo) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Giordanos Happy Hour (Giordanos - Bally's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (Various)
+ 7:00pm: Giordanos dining option (Giordanos - Bally's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Margaritaville dining option (Margaritaville - Flamingo) - ms

Friday is, unfortunately, our weakest evening. We should have one more
dining option and some various (don't have to be elaborate) after-dinner
options here. Something like an Audrey Tour would work well here. A show
would also be a good last-night option.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Topgolf and Mac:

Lori writes:

What do you need for top Golf? I don't really want to burn a day on a
golf course but possibly could help out with top golf. Have you had a
good turnout in previous years?

I will also be getting back to u on the Mac makeup sessions. I have
talked with them a few times, now I just need to set my schedule.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Lori. :)

Topgolf is greenfield here. We've never done it and we really don't know
how much of a demand there will be. It's been very successful and
popular so far in Las Vegas.

Cami has previously been in contact with their sales staff (see contact
info below) and there was at one time a "courtesy hold" placed on the
scheduled time, but that was a couple of months ago and has certainly
expired.

You can basically go about it two ways.

First is to go with a formal reservation for so many, take sign-ups
using the DLV Activity Sign-up system, and have a guaranteed spot at a
certain time.

You can also (and this is the way I would do it if I were doing it) do a
much simpler approach and go with the flow. Use the DLV Activity Sign-up
system to get a close headcount and show up for general admission as a
group. My hunch is that a weekday afternoon will not be so crowded as to
prevent or delay play.

One suggestion I would make after looking at the timing is to move the
start time of the activity earlier to something like 1:00pm in order
to prevent a time crunch for those attending the evening activities.

Dining on Wednesday:

Vera writes:

I may also have a lead for another Wednesday night option which would be
Indian fare at the Taj Place 9530 S. Eastern (off the I-215).. I guess
they consider that Henderson.

It's supposed to be a good place to have Indian food. They also have a
nice bar that serves wine and beer... no hard stuff though. Again, I
need to know how many would be interested to make the reservation.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Vera! :)

This sounds like a very good second track option.

Yes, we can do a sign-up required and add the options for cell phone
required and/or no sign-ups from those with no-show/no-pay history if
you want. Historically we've had reasonably good luck using the machine
to estimate the actual show-up rate so you'll have a fairly good
estimate of how many to expect in the days prior to the event.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dining on Sunday:

Vera writes:

Hello, I just called the manager at Magnolia's in the Four Queens Casino
and inquired about making a reservation for 15 to 20 people for dinner
on Sunday March 26th.

Vinnie, the manager, said she'd call me back tomorrow to see if that
could be done. They have a prime rib special on Sunday and fill up
rather quickly by 7:00 pm.

She stated that March is a pretty busy month for them. If she calls back
to say it's a go I will go ahead and put my name down for 15 people,
but it may have to be an early dinner option. But if 5 more ladies wish
to be added they better be darn sure they want to join us because I'm
not going to make a reservation for 20 and have only a dozen show up.
This happens quite a lot with the Diva crowd and it really ticks me off
because it makes me look bad, and I have to apologize to the manager for
the low showing.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Vera! :)

What I would suggest here is to do a sign-up using both options, to
limit sign-ups to those with a valid cell phone on file and no sign-ups
from those having any no-show/no-pay history. This will get things about
as close as we can to an actual show-up count, and the machine adjusts
for such things as newcomers, local residents, SO present, all of which
factors have been shown to correlate to the show-up rate.

I KNOW it's embarrassing to have to explain a low turnout! I've also had
it the opposite way (Milano's one year) when we told them to expect 20
or so and the place was literally swarmed with about 35.

Magnolia's would be a perfect balance to the lower-end Denny's on Sunday
and I think it would be a hit!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Lunch with Aejaie:

Here are the two locations for "Lunch with Aejaie"

Monday - Off the Strip at The Linq
Wednesday - Fulton Street Food Hall at Harrah's
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks Aejaie. :) These are on the schedule.

Do you want any kind of sign-up for these or should we just go with the
"no sign-up, just show up" as we do for most lunches?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Gold Spike:

Marisa writes:

Add Gold Spike as a dining-socializing event for Sunday.

It's less than a block from Denny's. They have indoor and outdoor games
like giant jenga, chess, beer pong, pool, shuffleboard, twister, etc..

They serve sandwiches, burgers, pizza, 24 hour breakfast, etc..

It looks like a nice place to get to know new friends and could be a
possible future large group meet-up location with other dining options
like we did a number of years ago.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks Marisa! This rounds out Sunday evening nicely, as far as downtown
is concerned.

I've massaged the schedule to include this on a few detail lines so
please be sure to look it over and see if it looks sane. This will
balance very well against the outdoor FSE thing that evening.

A friend of DLV:

Michelle (NV) writes:

Hi.

David De Alba is a friend of mine here in Las Vegas. He has done a show
at BB before during DLV's welcome dinner.

Two weeks before this year's DLV David is giving a show to commemorate
Judy Garland. He asked if I could share this playbill with you for
further distribution.

Thanks for your consideration

What I would suggest you (or anyone else who wants to promote things
like this) do is to post a notice on the DLV Discussion Forum and
include the above static link. That will get the best exposure of any of
our media, since it is also gated to the mailing list and Yahoo.
