Decisions to be made or confirmed:
As more volunteers chime in, there does appear to be more of a
preference for Thursday evening for the second major gathering. Please
see multiple items below.
Likewise, it appears that Sunday will be a good choice for an afternoon
and evening centered downtown.
If there are no objections to these two decision within the next list
cycle, let's consider them to be solid.
We ask all volunteers to please look over the schedule review and the
new complete schedule below as many changes have been made since our
last mailing.
. . . . .
Thanks again to all who have volunteered! We're moving right along but
unfortunately still in catch-up mode, at least for a while.
We would like to have the working schedule at least solid enough to
release in a general mailing by the first of February.
. . . . .
Everything received by Tuesday evening should be in this mailing. If you
sent in anything and don't see at least a reference to it, please
scream!
. . . . .
Validated headcount currently sits at 92. We're quickly approaching that
coveted 100 mark, but with the later registration start this year, we're
still a bit behind where we were last year. However, we're definitely
catching up.
Still a couple of VERY conspicuously missing names from the roster!
(HINT!) :) Thanks to those who got their registrations in. :)

Quick schedule review:
Annie writes:
This is not a complete day-to-day review but a hitting of the high spots
and the decision-dependent spots. Many line items are not listed here,
so see the full working schedule below if you think anything is missing.
Things are starting to solidify and round out and we thank all for the
efforts in making it so.
. . . . .
+Sunday, March 26:
+ 6:00pm: Downtown Happy Hour Options (Various) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Denny's Happy Hour option (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Downtown Dining Options (Various) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Denny's Dining option (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
+ 8:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street Experience) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Night Dancing (Fremont Street Experience) - ms
Since the decision to do downtown on Sunday appears to be solidifying,
we can start planning.
I (Annie) will repeat my usual Denny's things that evening and we have
one other very tentative option (see below) as well. We will need a
couple more dining options this evening. We have one more very iffy
dining option, but IMAO it's too iffy to put on the schedule at this
time, see below.
I'm putting a catch-all Fremont Street Experience thing in after dinner
but the timeframe is wide open for any more specific activities or
diversions in the area.
. . . . .
+Wednesday, March 29:
+ 6:00pm: Trevi Happy Hour (Trevi - Caesars) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Trevi Dining (Trevi - Caesars) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Limousine Tour (Caesars Palace) - ms
+ 10:30pm: Late Night Dancing (Paris - Le Cabaret) - ms
With the tentative scheduling of the Limo Tour and the Trevi dinner (see
below), Wednesday now becomes an "anchor" evening with the Limo Tour
being the featured, but not the exclusive claimant of the timeslot.
Other HH/dining options are welcome as well as any of several other
activities. A dinner/show combo, for example, would work well opposite
the Trevi/Limo track.
. . . . .
+Tuesday, March 28:
+ 10:30pm: Late Night Dancing (Paris - Le Cabaret) - ms
+Friday, March 31:
+ 10:30pm: Late Night Dancing (Paris - Le Cabaret) - ms
We have two evenings for which there are no solid plans. Although we're
not approaching any Drop Dead deadlines yet, we should move forward as
soon as we can.
If we stick to the 2-2-2 model (single-track, anchor, multi-track), we
need to designate one of these evenings as a multi-track "Eating Out
Night" with supporting activities and plan a mid-size anchor activity
for the other. Those 2-2-2 numbers are not in stone but they do seem to
work well.
Here are my thoughts. Let's hear yours please.
We have two mid-size activities being discussed, the Limo Tour and EHM.
One (Limo) has been tentatively assigned to Wednesday. EHM can be said
to be in the early-conversation state at this time with not even
preliminary plans in the works. We're wide open for anything different,
and in particular any mid-scale activities that we've never done before
in our history.
IMAO, Friday night is the more challenging, from a couple of different
perspectives. First of all, like it or not, a number of our people will
leave on Friday. History has shown that when we end on a Friday, more
will stick around for that single night than for the two weekend nights
when we end on a Saturday, but there is still some measurable fallout on
a final Friday.
Another factor is that crowds are up significantly on Friday. We had
some traffic issues on the Limo Tour last year, and learned that Friday
is not a good LT day. As well, facilities are more in demand on a
Friday.
I'm thinking, therefore, that Friday might be the best day for a multi
track smaller activity evening. Yes, restaurants will be more in demand,
but if we plan in advance there should be no issues getting reservations
and such, if needed.
This would leave Tuesday for a mid-size anchor activity, such as an EHM
gathering, which worked well last year and, IMAO, is well worth
repeating. Tuesday would, of course, need one or more dining options as
well, thus those planning things such as Ricardo's, Hofbrau, Ruth's C.
etc. could choose either Tuesday or Friday.
Comments, please. :)

Mac Makeovers:
Lori writes (from a conversation):
I have always had great experiences with Mac people and can check
that out within Nordstroms. In the past have you limited the days
and the times so they are not all over the place. I would presume
I would be at the counter to welcome the girls?
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Lori.
Mac at Nordstroms would be fine. There's also a stand-alone Mac shop
that we've used before. Your choice on the venue, one we've used before
or any other that you would like.
For the past few years, the Coordinator (there have been a few different
ones for things like this over the years) has picked one day, usually
the afternoon of the second final gathering, and a designated time or
times that afternoon. Some years it's been fairly solid appointments
with a choice of 2-3 times at 45 minute intervals. Other times it's been
FCFS at one time, space available.
Deciding which way to go is your call, whichever you prefer.
Yes, the Coordinator should be present at the venue, at least at the
start time of the activity. We always encourage volunteers to be a bit
early as some attendees, particularly the newer ones, are a bit uneasy
and knowing there will be a friendly DLV representative there can be
very reassuring.
These sessions almost always score at or close to the top on both the
enjoyment and comfort scales. We have many people who would love to have
a session with a major department store MUA but are simply a bit too shy
to step up and do it. It's a win-win-win for all.
Sometimes they've done it on two subsequent days. Again, up to you as to
how you would like to do it.
. . . . .
Lori continues:
Where is the best place to see the schedule?
I had a few thoughts about this and can remember back to my first
makeover. So I want to see what the different places might have to
offer. I am okay to say I am helping out Diva correct?
. . . . .
Annie responds:
Yes, please drop the name of our event and feel free to identify
yourself as one of the volunteers. Many of the cosmetics salespeople at
the various FSM stores know of us, but if they don't you can give them
the web site (very easy to remember now, just http://divalas.vegas) and
suggest that they check it out. There are quite a few photos in there of
various makeover sessions over the years.
As for the absolute latest version of the current working schedule,
we'll send you the link to the one that's continuously updated. It's no
big secret, but we do ask that you don't pass it on mostly just because
we don't want script kiddies and wannabe-hackers dorking around with our
scheduling utilities. We'll get you this link shortly.
. . . . .
Lori continues:
My heart goes out to you as I know the effort put forth putting
something like this together. I have organized golf tournaments with
240 people and that is headache enough.
Anyway looking at your proposed schedule you have Bare Minerals makeup
sessions daily does that conflict with Makeovers at Nordstroms?
Is there enough demand for both or are they different type of offering?
. . . . .
Annie responds:
LOL, watch out, or we might draft you to run our Golf! :)
We've done both Bare Minerals and Macys/Nordstroms makeup sessions for
several years now and there appears to be no real conflict. They're
similar but different product lines and such. The demand has always been
enough to support both.
Thanks again. :)

EHM:
Sherry writes:
I've never been involved in arranging an event, Anne. Maybe Stacy could
head it up and I could help? If not, tell me how to do what needs to be
done, please? And, I'll do the best I can. Maybe Stacy and I should
discuss it? I don't have her, or anyone's, contact info.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thanks, Sherry.
We'll do a contact information exchange between you and Stacy over the
next few days. That way you can exchange some thoughts on the matter.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Second major gathering:
Marisa writes:
The terms at OSB&B will be close to the same as last year for Thursday
evening ($1000 minimum Food & Beverage, 22% gratuity, we'll be seated
downstairs if upstairs is booked by someone else at the $4000 or so
minimum and $500 deposit on a CC to reserve)
They say Thursday is better for them and they would need to raise the
minimum we need to spend for the Friday reservation. We spent little
over $1500 on food plus drinks ($1000 estimate) last year for over 80
people.
With possible lower number of people staying Friday night because of
higher hotel rates and having a better idea on the attendance numbers, I
wouldn't sign the contract this early.
. . . . .
Beverly writes:
I am not sure if you are taking votes but {I and two others all vote for
holding the closing event on Thursday night since we are leaving on
Friday.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Marisa (and Bev). :)
This sounds super!
Thursday appears to be emerging as a clear favorite for this.
Last year's affair was fantastic! It scored 4.85/4.88 on the enjoyment
and comfort scales which is probably as high as we've ever reached on
something with that many participating. There's no reason to think that
we will not have something equally successful and equally as well
attended this year.
We cracked the 1 kilobuck "nut" easily last year and we have a lot of
breathing room this year as well. In a worst case, we would have to see
a decrease of 33% in headcount to be at risk of taking a bath, and that
just ain't gonna happen! :)
Our numbers are going to be a bit more difficult to predict this year,
since we started registration late and we also did not get an accurate
final headcount last year. I would say, however, that by mid-February we
will be able to get a much better idea of what our numbers will be.
They are being very realistic with us WRT numbers and conditions, so I
don't think there should be too many concerns about this one.
Thanks again! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Various activities:
Delaney writes:
WRT the second major gathering, I would have a slight preference for
Thursday, as it would offer a little more flexibility for those of us
who fly to find better rates. In the past, you could generally count on
rates being less on Saturday than Friday, but with flights running so
full, it can go either way, particularly if you are flying out of a
secondary market.
If Tuesday LWG remains hostess-less, perhaps we might try something
different, a slightly more upscale lunch, such as at Bouchon. I floated
this idea a year or two ago, and there didn't seem to be much interest
as compared to the buffets, but peoples tastes change.
If there is sufficient interest (a big if) and my flight scheduling
works out, I am willing to offer Oscar's downtown on Sunday night. I
had a wonderful time and lovely company the last time I offered Oscars,
but the restaurant had set aside a prime table for eight, and only one
couple showed, so it was a bit embarrassing.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Delaney. (And yes, we received your follow-up.) :)
Yes, it appears that we're converging on Thursday for the final major
gathering. I think it will work out better that way.
If you would like to adopt the Tuesday "Lunch With", yes, you can, and
you choose the venue, plain or fancy. There is a secondary option for
lunch that day, and that may or may not impact your turnout, should you
do it Tuesday. Thursday is also open if you would like.
We'll hold off on placing Oscar's on the Sunday schedule until your
plans become more solid.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Karaoke and such:
Linda writes:
My name was called, so I thought I should let you know what's happening
with me.
Although I hope to attend DLV this year, I have spine surgery scheduled
on 2/21 and don't know how long I will be out of order.
I imagine that I will have a better idea by mid-March. If I am up to par
by then, I could still arrange for a karaoke evening to possibly fill in
a blank spot.
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
Thanks, Linda, and we sure hope that your surgery will go well and that
you will be up and about by DLV.
Karaoke is very "portable" on our schedule, and it mostly depends on
when the various facilities offer it.
Since we're concentrating Sunday evening downtown, we will probably have
a need for one "safer" activity with less public exposure as an option
for those not ready for FSE yet. Karaoke (or just a simple get-together)
at a place such as Spotlight, Flex, Phoenix (or whatever they are
calling it now) would fit the bill perfectly.
Just be thinking of what might work, and this is something that needs
very little busy work so it can be planned late in the cycle if need be
and moved on the schedule relatively easy.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Trevi, Limo, Cinema:
Laura writes:
Still want arrange a dinner at Trevi.
When should arrange? Same night as the Limo Tour or eat out night to be
determined.
Also want to arrange a movie night at the Orleans. They really did a
major renovation there.
Can volunteer for limo tour, what is needed?
. . . . . . . . . .
Annie responds:
What is needed to volunteer to help with the Limo Tour?
Well, you just did it! :) That makes three volunteers for it so far and
this also shows that there is interest in having it again this year, so
AFAIC it's the most solid of the potential "anchor" activities.
Trevi pairs very well with the Limo Tour, so let's just go4it and pencil
the Trevi and Limo activities in for Wednesday, which appears to be
about the best for same. Thursday is probably out, since that appears to
be what we're converging on for our second major gathering, and as we
learned the hard way last year, the Friday traffic gave us problems.
Thanks again for volunteering for both of these, as well as ...
Movie Night is probably one of the most portable activities there is,
and (see above) Tuesday and/or Friday will most likely be designated as
multi-track, so one of those, depending on how things fall in place over
the next few weeks, would be best. However, this would also work well as
an alternate-track option against a larger anchor activity.
