Org List:

This is the DLV 2016 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Less than one month out:

Yes, time is fleeting! Many of our things are looking very good, and in
particular most of our major activities are solid or on track.

However, we're still behind the power curve on a few things. First,
there's no way we will be able to roll out Activity Sign-up shortly
after the first of March. There are just too many blanks to be filled
in.

March 10 is our new target date and that is a Drop Dead Date! Every
activity which needs some kind of a sign-up or headcount needs to be
solid as to details such as time and cost as of that time. It's very
easy to add activities to the sign-up screen before it's rolled out but
almost futile to do so after.

Therefore, we'll most likely have a mid-cycle sign-up checkpoint mailing
later this week.

Please look over the schedule review and the Laundry List below and if
your name is called, or you have something to add, please do not
hesitate as the clock is indeed ticking!

Thanks to all who have submitted Activity Highlights. We do need more of
them so if you're coordinating an activity please consider writing one.
. . . . .

The Celebration details have been spun off to an ad-hoc mailing list. If
you are interested in actively helping out with this activity and are
not on the list, please speak up.
. . . . .

All schedule additions and edits should now be in place. Please check it
over and scream if something is not right.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry List:

This list is short this week but several of these items (not all of
them) are holding up the roll-out of activity sign-up:

Dionne? Location for Better Dressing Roundtable? Any decision?
. . . . .

Cami? Mat Franco magic tickets? How do you want to work this? Will
you be buying a block or does everyone have to get their own?

Also Cami? Pinball Hall of Fame? Will you be doing this? If not, I
(Annie) will take it. It's definitely worth repeating this year.
. . . . .

Marisa and EHM team? EHM cost?
. . . . .

Gina? Shooting location and cost?
. . . . .

Ginger? Shopping expedition? Any decisions? Go? No-Go?

Also Ginger, any decisions on LWG locations?

Thanks all! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Schedule review:

We'll again make two passes through the schedule, first noting the
trouble spots, time-sensitive, and critical items, and the second pass
as a general review.
. . . . .

First pass - Trouble spots and critical items:

Two glaring weak spots!

+Tuesday, March 29:
+ 9:00pm: Explore The Linq (The Linq) - ms

This is a place-holder and cop-out. We have only one non-dining activity
Tuesday evening (Mat Franco, thanks, Cami!) which will not attract
everyone and certainly will not hold everyone.

Unless we have some more volunteers to coordinate after-dinner items in
this timeslot (and very soon if they need a sign-up or a headcount), for
most of our people it will be "free time" at the Linq.
. . . . .

+Saturday, April 2:

Saturday is now our weakest day! Although our attendee base will be
waning, those who ARE staying (at higher room rates) do deserve a
quality selection of activities.

We've planned Saturday around Downtown, but that does not mean that
some activities cannot happen elsewhere.

+ 1:00pm: Downtown afternoon activity options (various)

We sure need a few volunteers to head up some Downtown-ish activities in
the afternoon. Things like Mob Museum, Neon Museum, tour Container Park,
a trip to the expanded Pawn Stars Plaza, etc.

+ 7:00pm: Downtown dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Denny's dining option (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms

We most definitely need more dining options in here. This can be very
easy, just name a place, agree to be there on time, and use available
tables. No busy work, no cold calling, no hassle. What we need is
volunteers!

+ 8:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (FSE)

Again, kind of a catch-all, place-holder, cop-out. We would sure like to
see something more than free time downtown on the slate.

A downtown show? Scavenger hunt? Pub Crawl? There are oodles of things
happening downtown but we're in need of volunteers to adopt them and put
them on the schedule!
. . . . . . . . . .

Second pass - General review:

+Monday, March 28:

Monday is about as solid as can be. There's room for more daytime
activities in here but the turnout for such would not be as great as it
would be on other days due to Mondey being a travel and get-there day
for many.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, March 29:

With the exception of after-dinner (see above), Tuesday is shaping up
nicely.
. . . .

+Wednesday, March 30:

Still room for alternate-track daytime activities on Tuesday, both
morning and afternoon.

Wednesday evening, of course, is dominated by EHM.

Overall, Wednesday is solid. Thanks to all for making it so! :)
. . . . .

+Thursday, March 31:

Again, room for alternate-track morning and afternoon activities on
Thursday.
. . . . .

+Friday, April 1:

And once again, ditto for Friday morning and afternoon.

+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Ricardo's dining option (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Morton's dining option (Morton's) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Limousine Tour (tbd) - ms
+ 10:00pm: Late Night Dancing (tba) - ms

We could use a third dining option for Friday evening.

Likiewise, we could use a second-track activity option (show, anyone?)
against the Limo Tour.
. . . . .

+Saturday, April 2:

Saturday morning needs something. Shopping at the Outlet Mall or FISM?

And, we've discussed Saturday afternoon and evening above.

Bottom line, we need a few more volunteers! We would sure like to see
those who are not doing anything yet step forward, instead of those who
are doing multiple things take on yet more.

Everything mentioned in this second counts for voting status.

Volunteers?

Name badge sample:

Dennis sends in the following sample:

http://divalas.vegas/misc/annual.jpg

Comments, please.

You'll notice that the background image is light enough so the name,
printed black, will show up clearly.

As last year, an individual QR code with a one-click to the Attendee
Information Portal for that attendee will appear on the back. This had
enough "hits" last year to demonstrate that it was indeed worthwhile.

Big thanks go out to Dennis and Vera for doing the name tags again this
year!

Lunch With locations:

Aejaie writes:

I have the two places I'll be meeting Girls for lunch Monday and
Wednesday

Both are conveniently located at the Linq Hotel (in between Harrah's and
the Flamingo)

Monday - Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar

The restaurant offers guests a taste of Fieri's signature cuisine,
featuring bold flavors and unique twists on traditional dishes. Open
daily from 8 a.m. until late for brunch, lunch, dinner and a late night
dining menu served after 10 p.m. The 200-seat restaurant features a
delicious blend of casual foods including an extensive variety of
burgers, wings, tacos, small bites and shareable food items.

This is a sit down restaurant and the average Entree runs $15-$25 not
including beverages.

Wednesday - Hash House A Go Go, this Las Vegas casual dining restaurant
features chicken and sage waffles, one-pound burgers stuffed with bacon
and mashed potatoes (or other scrumptious delights), sandwiches like the
Kokomo (stuffed with meatloaf and smoked mozzarella) and salads.
Average entree between $15-$25 not including beverages.

Please let me know if there are any other questions.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Aejaie (I'm gonna eventually learn to spell that without looking
it up) :)

All set. :)

Koffee Korner on Saturday:

Katie writes:

Hi.

KKK.

In order that someone does not say "Where the hell is Katie"? at the
Saturday 2nd April morning coffee and girly chat session, (Katie will be
on her way to Detroit when coffee is being poured) Should we think of
changing the title or not?

I know that the Multitudes of loyal followers will be flocking to attend
Aunt Katie's enormously popular gathering Tongue held reasonably firmly
in cheek but I would hate them to think that I let the side down and be
disappointed not to see me there..

I am ok with keeping it the same to keep attendance in high gear but
equally as ok if it is called something else.

If you want to keep the flow going (Pun Intended) ... Ah.... Ha ha ha
ha, then keep the name the same but I won't be there.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Somewhere (????) I recall that Beverly will be covering KKK as Katie
Junior (Katie prime?) :) on Saturday. If this is incorrect, please let
us know.

Celebration comments:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang.

I am not at all familiar with The Off Strip Bistro so with this in mind,
Do we have any idea what the seating arrangements will be?

I was wondering if it will be round tables of 6 or 8 or a 40 ft long
bench format. I imagine that gathering money and the equalizing the
separate bills will be much easier with 6 than with 46. Also is there a
bar window where we can go and get your own drinks? This would likely be
much less of a headache for the money gatherers, or do the waiting staff
float between tables serving drinks?

This will obviously not be of high importance to some but it is to me.

That's why I asked!
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Many of the exact details of the Celebration are not known as of this
time, but the Celebration Team does have things under control.

There will most likely be a walk-up cash bar as well as table service.

As for payment, the Team is committed to making things as easy and as
transparent as is possible for the attendees. In most cases, those who
are dining will be able to settle up individually. One goal is to not
have the confusion and complaining about the payment that we did this
last year.
