Org List:

This is the DLV 2016 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The clock is ticking:

We are now about 6 weeks out from the big event.

Our greatest need at this time is for volunteers to commit to filling in
the weak spots in the schedule. We'll be looking particularly to those
who are on our volunteer roster who have not yet signed up to coordinate
an activity this year. You know who you are. (And we do too.) :)

Activity sign-up is scheduled to start "shortly after the first of
March", which is about two weeks away. This means that everything on the
schedule that needs a sign-up, headcount, prepayment, etc., will need to
be firm enough so that attendees have enough information to make their
sign-up decisions.

So, the next week or two are critical in filling and rounding out our
schedule of activities!

Those who are coordinating dining activities which need a sign-up,
please select/confirm a venue ASAP.
. . . . .

For new volunteers who sincerely believe that you are not ready to
coordinate a DLV activity just yet, there's one other area in which we
need assistance. That's in the area of Big Sisters. Please consider this
and see below for details.
. . . . .

This mailing contains all of the non-EHM and non-Celebration items
received after February 1. If you sent in anything and did not see at
least a reference to it in the regular or one of the special mailings,
please resend or remind.
. . . . .

Validated headcount stands at 137 as of this morning. This compares to
122 at this time in 2015 and 134 at this time in 2014.
. . . . .

Plans are proceeding very nicely on the EHM activity and the team is
showing a very high level of interest. The result is certain to be a
winner.

Plans are also proceeding toward the plans for the big Celebration on
Thursday. Two options now appear to be "finalists" and we'll be pushing
that forward in the mid-cycle mailings.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Schedule review:

We'll make two "passes" through the schedule, the first to concentrate
on the weak spots, as in those which most critically need volunteer
commitment, and second as a general overview. Three asterisks indicate
our greatest needs for volunteers to step forward.
. . . . .

First pass - weakest spots:

Overall, Tuesday is our weakest day.

+Tuesday, March 29:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Flamingo - Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Wildhorse Golf Club) - ms

Golf is our big gun for Tuesday daytime, but it will not attract
everyone.

*** We'll most definitely need at least one additional daytime option.
Possibilities are (HINT!) such things as a Social at The Center, some
kind of shopping activity, maybe at one of the outlet malls, a trip back
to the Pinball Hall Of Fame, maybe even a Lake Mead Boat excursion. The
options are endless!

Tuesday will be our first true "full day" and we want to be sure we have
options for those who wish to do them, particularly for those who are
new and do not yet have close established friendships.

+ 8:30pm: Evening activity options (various)
+ 8:30pm: Cami's choice Show Option (tba) - ms

*** Tuesday after dinner is our weakest spot!

We have one show but we'll need at least two other options in this
timeslot.

Possibilities might be an Audrey Tour type of thing, or going more
earthy with a Dive Bar Crwal. :) Another show would work, as would
a smaller re-run of the Big Wheel or a more general Linq visit.
. . .

+Friday, April 1:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Flamingo - Club Cappucino) - ms

Friday morning is SCREAMING for something to fill it! :) A trip to FISM
would be a very good fit (HINT!) here, since it's open on Friday. Ditto
for almost any other type of shopping activity. Things previously
discussed such as the Clark County Museum, Springs Preserve, etc., would
also work nicely.

+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 3:30pm: Carnaval Court (Carnaval Court) - ms

*** No HH or dinner plans yet for Friday. We would sure hate to have
"Dinner On Your Own" in here, so we will need at least two midscale or
three smaller scale dining options. Things such as Ricardo's, Trevi,
Satay, etc., would be good here. All we need is for volunteers to name
venues and agree to be there.

+ 9:00pm: Limousine Tour (tbd) - ms

The Limo Tour will not attract everyone. We'll need at least one other
alternate-track item in place here. A return to the Big Wheel might be
an option. A show of about any type would be a very good fit as well.
. . .

There are several opportunities for low-maintenance easy to coordinate
activities on Saturday.

+Saturday, April 2:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Flamingo - Club Cappucino) - ms

Saturday morning is totally blank. FISM would work well here, as well as
other shopping-type of activities. Touristy options would work well here
as well. Maybe shopping at the North Outlets, to segue' into downtown?

+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms

*** To make our Downtown Day work, we'll be needing several volunteers
to take on various options, most of which will be almost trivial.

+ 1:00pm: Downtown afternoon activity options (various)

*** Things like Container Park, Mob Museum, Neon Museum, etc., are the
obvious daytime things for downtown. Volunteers?

+ 6:00pm: Downtown happy hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Annie's choice (tba)
+ 7:00pm: Downtown dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Annie's choice (tba)

*** We will be needing 3 or so HH and dining options for Saturday
evening. One has been committed to already. There are countless places
downtown where it's trivial to coordinate, as in just name a place,
agree to be there on time to welcome the others, and use available
tables. No formality! No cold calling! No hassle and all enjoyment.
. . . . .

+Second pass - general overview:

First some recurring activities:

Lunch With is scheduled for all days. Monday and Wednesday are spoken
for and Ginger is the default host(ess) for the other days but anyone is
free to host(ess) any of them. Yes, Lunch With YOU can appear on our
schedule. :)

We have Late Evening Dancing most every evening. Monday is the only
session that is spoken for as far as a Coordinator is concerned. This is
about the easiest path to voting status that there is. All you need to
do is to promise to be there on time to welcome the others. The default
venue is Paris, but if you volunteer to host(ess) a session, you get to
choose the venue!
. . . . .

+Monday, March 28:

Monday is solid. The daytime is admittedly somewhat empty but this will
be a travel day for many and high turnouts for anything cannot be
expected. If someone has a need to do something on Monday during the
day, it can be done, but we do have far greater needs elsewhere in the
week.

Of course there will be the BE/BM ongoing sessions but it's not clear if
or how we can enter these as line items on the schedule.
. . . . .

+Tuesday, March 29:

Tuesday is looking good except for after dinner in the evening. See
above.
. . . . .

+Wednesday, March 30:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Flamingo - Club Cappucino) - ms
+ 9:00am: Side trip - Shiloh Horse Rescue (Meet at Flamingo) - ms

Shiloh will not attract everyone. About anything (shopping? touristy?)
would work.

+ 2:00pm: Art Tour (Bellagio) - ms

Ditto for the Art Tour.

There's room for additional daytime activities of all types on
Wednesday. A vendor open house might fit well on Wednesday.

+ 5:00pm: Happy Hour (PF Chang Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Dinner (PF Chang Planet Hollywood) - ms

We could use a second dining option against PFC, but it's not one of our
greater needs.

+ 8:00pm: Erotic Heritage Museum (EHM) - mv

It's possible to have a second-track option against EHM but we do
understand if nobody wants to coordinate it! :)
. . .

+Thursday, March 31:
+ 9:00am: Pistol and rifle shooting (tba) - ms

Shooting will not attract everyone. Room for additional options here.
. . .

+Friday, April 1:

As discussed above, Friday has holes which badly need to be filled!
. . .

+Saturday, April 2:

Saturday is discussed above, and just about every need on Saturday will
be a very easy ticket to voting status. :)

Big Sisters needed:

Delaney writes:

We could really use some additional volunteers for the Big Sister
program.

In particular, I have several girls coming from overseas that are in
need of Big Sisters.

As one who has traveled as a girl in foreign countries, I can tell you
it can be a high anxiety experience, even in areas where transgender
individuals are generally accepted. You don't know the local laws, and
may not know the language well; and even in places like England, it can
be tricky due to accents and colloquialisms.

Please consider volunteering as a Big Sister, your help would be most
appreciated.
. . . . .

To volunteer as a Big Sister, please visit your Attendee Information
Portal (this was the link you received in email shortly after you
registered), select the green "Registration" tile, select the Big Sister
button, and fill out the form volunteering to be a Big Sister. This gets
us the information necessary to get a good match between you and one or
more Little Sisters.

Alternatively, you can email bigsister_at_divalas.vegas or simply reply to
this mailing stating that you would like to volunteer as a Big Sister.

Steakhouse dining:

Beverly writes:

Tuesday night dinner option

Once again I am planning on hosting a small dinner outing on Tuesday
evening. In the past we have had 3 tables of six spread out throughout
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. This allowed for 1. Small groups and more
intimate conversation, 2. Less attention on us from surrounding tables,
3. Better service/attention by wait-staff, 4. Ability to have separate
checks for all guests at each table.

I am hoping to do the same this year but am thinking of moving to a new
venue... The Center Cut Steakhouse at Flamingo. I would love to get your
input on this. I really love Ruth's Chris and they have always been
super to us.

My thought is to try a new place and hope we find another gem like RCS.

So please let me know what you think of this and if you plan on joining
us Tuesday night. Cocktails at 6:00, dinner at 7:00.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks for doing this Beverly!

As most of you know, this was also posted to the Discussion Forum and
the responses ranged from "Sounds good to me" to "Ain't broke, don't
fix it."

What I might suggest (to ALL and to Beverly) is for Beverly to do the
new venue and for someone else, perhaps a newer volunteer or someone in
the "ain't broke, don't fix it" camp to do Ruth's Chris, thus getting us
a win-win.

We probably do not want two similar steak houses on Tuesday, but Ruth's
Chris would be a great fit for other days, such as Friday.

For those of you who are new(er) volunteers, or have not committed to
anything this year, this will be an easy one. Ruth's Chris knows our
group well, so there will be no cold calling and no awkward explaining
our group to the staff and such.

New Attendee orientation:

Vera writes:

Katie, Of course I would love for you to help me with the New Attendees
gathering.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Newcomer Orientation is an evolving concept, as we've discussed. I have
listened to Vera, Katie, and Delaney interact with the newbees and I
personally think that the three of them are quite able to relate to the
newcomers and also are extremely familiar with DLV to be able to present
accurate answers and opinions when asked.

Last year the presenters decided to do more of an open and free-form
session, and the survey results clearly indicated that more structure is
needed.

What I would suggest, and we can discuss and refine this, is for there
to be a list of bullet-point items, those which are frequently unclear
or misunderstood, which are presented, followed by more of an open
session.

Lunch With:

Aejaie writes:

I'm happy to offer my assistance to Ginger and take one or two of the
lunches I'll be in Vegas sunday evening to Thursday morning.
. . . . .

Thanks, Aejaie.

If it's OK with you, let's have you take Monday and Wednesday, since
that will fit your schedule. Ginger may have a tight schedule on Monday
morning, so having you take that one would be great.

You can select the particular venues whenever you wish. :)

Dressing roundtable:

Dionne writes:

Please add my activity to the Working schedule:

Tuesday, March 29: 1:30 pm Better Dressing Roundtable Discussion
{location tbd}
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Dionne.

It's on the schedule.

Can we assume that you'll be coordinating efforts with the Creative
Wigs folks to have a seamless segue' from one activity to the other?
