Org List:

This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not
the DLV-Announce or DLV-Discuss list.

Entering a crunch period:

It is now February 11. Diva Las Vegas is less than six weeks away.

Unfortunately our schedule still has a few very weak spots.

We would like to roll out activity sign-up on March 1, with a test for
the volunteers on Wednesday, February 25, which is two weeks from
today.

If anyone has said anything, sent in anything, is expecting an answer or
response, etc., and has not received at least a mention of it, please
resend or remind. It's crunch time and things can easily get overlooked.
. . . . .

We have a number of volunteers on the roster who are not yet signed up
to coordinate anything. (You know who you are, and we do too.) :) We
will begin to reach out personally to some of you over the next week or
so.

We don't want to fill in our weak spots by asking those who are already
doing their fair share (or more) to do yet more. We want to encourage
all to take a fair share of the load. Most of the needed effort is in
the area of very easy activities. Things such as sessions of recurring
activities which are already set, and smaller dining and recreational
things that do not involve any "heavy lifting", cold calling, or
anything major.

The one thing that we need to emphasize is that any activity that is not
solid (time, venue, etc.) by February 25 will need to be "no sign-up,
just show up" in nature.
. . . . .

As of Tuesday evening we have 119 signed up to attend. This is right
about where it should be at this time. General registration opens this
weekend! Open the flood gates! :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Encouraging inclusion:

Annie writes:

Here are a couple of ideas and I would like to hear your (yes, YOU) :)
thoughts on both of these.

To make a long story long ...

Our after-work "business meeting" last Friday eventually dwindled down
to three people, myself included, with the two others well aware of what
DLV is and my involvement and such. We noticed a group of three younger
ladies sitting at the bar, with two of them turned inward "bookending"
the one in the middle and mirroring each other. They were giving off
very "closed" vibes, body-language-wise.

I then explained the challenges that we had regarding the propensity of
the TG community to be cliquish and our desire to facilitate mixing and
inclusion. I invited suggestions, particularly that I wanted to avoid the
usual trite "mixing games" and such. I specifically mentioned the idea
of reserving two spaces at each table for newbees.

Anyway, we ended up with two very specific ideas and I would like to
hear some feedback from the rest of you.
. . . . .

First. Formalize the two reserved seats per table. The specific
suggestion was that I print up "tents", two of which are to be placed on
each table, saying that the seat is reserved for a new attendee. As we
rambled on about it more, we also discussed using a very bright paper
placemat to denote these seats as well.
. . . . .

Second, and this will cost real money but I really think it has a good
chance of giving results!

Get a gift card of a meaningful denomination, similar to what we did to
encourage the newbees to attend the New Attendee Orientation last year.
Then give it away on the final evening to the returnee who is voted the
"Most Welcoming and Inclusive" by the newbees.

As I think more of this one, it would also have the side effect of
encouraging returnees to wear their name tags so the newbees will be
able to remember their names.

Comments on either one of these? :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Laundry list:

Fairly short this week. Thanks to all who cleared items during the
last couple of list cycles.
. . . . .

All: We are in need of volunteers for a few sessions of the following:

Afternoon Social: Thursday, Friday.

Dancing at Paris: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday.

No busy work! All you have to do is to agree to be there on your
designated day/night, welcome the others, and keep an eye on things.

The daily lunch on Sunday and Wednesday could very easily become "Lunch
With YOU" if you so desire! :)
. . . . .

Metropolitan Community Church on Sunday: Gavel raised, ready to strike!

Defecate or abdicate time! If we don't have a volunteer for this during
the next list cycle we'll scratch it from this year's program.

This is a fairly low-maintenance one. All that needs to be done is to
verify the service time(s), select a service to attend, and be there to
welcome the others.
. . . . .

Cami? How do you want to work the ticketing for Raiding The Rock Vault?
Everybody buy their own? You gonna two-step tickets? If so, do you want
pre-payment (strongly suggested!)?
. . . . .

Vanessa? High Tea payment? How do you want to do this? Paypal?
Pay in person during DLV?

What is the deadline for payment?
. . . . .

Valorie? Pole Dancing? Any movement on this?

Valorie? Late-night clubbing? Any movement on this?
. . . . .

Shiloh Horse Rescue? Looks like there is interest, but so far no
volunteer to make it happen. Volunteers? Going once!
. . . . .

Thanks in advance for your responses!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Schedule review:

Overall this is looking very good, but there are a few very weak spots,
most specifically Tuesday evening.
. . . . .

+Sunday, March 22:

Metropolitan Community Church - Adopt an orphan, please! :)

Religious services at MCC have been on our schedule for over 10 years.
So far this year, nobody has shown any interest in coordinating this
activity. Not even a peep!

It probably does not need a sign-up so we can let this one hang if we
need to, but it's a glaring omission from previous years' schedules!

+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms

Sunday afternoon is still wide open for just about any kind of a daytime
activity anyone wants to sponsor. This is not one of our more critical
needs, but is a good opportunity for any of several daytime things.

Sunday evening is shaping up nicely for the most part.

+ 7:00pm: Downtown Dining Options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Linda's choice (tba) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Brass Lounge dining option (Brass Lounge) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Denny's Dining Option (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms

It would be nice to have one more dining option for Sunday evening,
but again this is not one of our more critical needs.

Let's round out Sunday evening thusly:

+ 8:30pm: Downtown Evening Options (various)
+ 8:30pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street Experience) - ms
+ 8:30pm: Karaoke (Brass Lounge) - ms
+ 9:00pm: Karaoke with Shiela (Phoenix Lounge) - sv
+ 10:00pm: Late-evening options (various)
+ 10:00pm: "Softer" Common Gathering (Denny's Neonopolis) - ms
+ 10:00pm: "Louder" Common Gathering (Brass Lounge) - ms
+ 10:00pm: "Safer" Common Gathering (Phoenix Lounge) - sv

If anything should happen to any one venue (such as last year's
unexpected cover charge) there are two others to fall back on. :)
. . . . . . . . . .

+Monday, March 23:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Club Cappuccino - Flamingo) - ms

Big hole on Monday morning! We really need something outdoorsy or
touristy or some kind of shopping thing, or ...

+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms

The rest of Monday is looking very good. :)
. . . . . . . . . .

+Tuesday, March 24:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Club Cappuccino - Flamingo) - ms
+ 9:00am: Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf (Wildhorse Golf Club) - ms

There is one Tuesday morning and early afternoon social activity in the
works but details are not solid as of the time of this mailing.

That will fill out Tuesday daytime nicely!

+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Makeover Sessions (Bare Escentuals) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Figure Workshop Lunch (Blue Ox Sahara) - ms
+ 2:00pm: 2bShapely Figure and Fitting Workshop (Blue Ox Sahara) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Makeover Sessions (Bare Escentuals) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Makeover Sessions (Bare Escentuals) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Texas de Brazil Happy Hour (Texas de Brazil) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ricardo's Happy Hour (Ricardo's) - ms
+ 6:00pm: PT's Happy Hour (PT's Sahara) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Ruths Chris Happy Hour (Ruth's Chris - Harrahs) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Ruths Chris dining option (Ruth's Chris - Harrahs) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Pamplemousse Dining Option (Pamplemousse) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Texas de Brazil dining option (Texas de Brazil) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Ricardo's Dining option (Ricardo's) - ms

Everything up through Tuesday dinner looks very good.

However, Tuesday evening is our weakest evening! There are some items
that may be moved to Tuesday evening, but there will be room for about
any kind of smaller activities in here.

+ 8:30pm: Evening Options (various)
+ 10:15pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

One off-line suggestion for after-dinner on Tuesday was to encourage the
dining groups to all go off and do something spontaneously on their own,
keeping im mind that everyone in the dining group is to be included in
the plans.

I (Annie) am not too fond of that idea, but realistically, the evening
meal will wrap up at 9:00pm or so and we have the common gathering at
Paris at 10:15.

There are a few off-line goings on which may help to fill in this very
weak spot. First is that the Rock Vault show may be moved into this
timeslot, mainly to avoid being up against the Fantasy Ball which is a
very strong activity.
. . . . . . . . . .

Wednesday morning is wide open. Big hole here. Something touristy or
outdoorsy or shopping or whatever will work nicely here.

+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Club Cappuccino - Flamingo) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (tba) - ms
+ 1:00pm: Meet Dr. Victoria (Erotic Heritage Museum) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
+ 5:00pm: PF Chang Happy Half-hour (PF Chang Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 5:30pm: PF Chang Dinner (PF Chang Planet Hollywood) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Cami's choice high-end dining (tba) - ms
+ 8:00pm: DLV Fantasy Ball (Kings Of Hustler) - sv
+ 9:00pm: Raiding the Rock Vault (Tropicana) - ms
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

The rest of Wednesday looks great, with one strong afternoon activity,
two strong dining options, one very strong "anchor" evening activity
with another strong supporting second-track activity (which may be
moved).
. . . . . . . . . .

Thursday is looking good overall, but there are some decisions to be
made WRT the evening activities. See immediately below.

One afternoon item is still iffy, and there's room for a second
morning item in there, but these are not our most critical needs.

+Thursday, March 26:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Club Cappuccino - Flamingo) - ms
+ 9:00am: Trap and Pistol Shooting (Clark County Shooting Complex) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Flamingo Buffet) - ms
+ 1:30pm: Pinball Museum (Pinball Hall Of Fame) - ms
+ 2:00pm: Looking Glass Open House (Looking Glass) - sv
+ 2:00pm: Art Tour (Bellagio Gallery) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms

Here's the issue. The Big Wheel activity may not be happening as
planned. It may be reincarnated as a smaller-scale item on Tuesday,
however.

There's been off-line discussion on dropping in either the Limo Tour or
Night of the Soiled Doves in here as the Thursday "anchor" activity.

Big Burning Question: Which would you rather have? Night of the Soiled
Doves or the Limo Tour? And, don't worry, we have volunteers to make
both of them happen. You won't get jumped on to do any heavy lifting by
simply commenting. :)

Comments?

+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour options (various)
+ 6:00pm: Big Wheel Happy Hour (tba) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Trevi Happy Hour (Trevi - Caesars) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Dining options (various)
+ 7:00pm: Big Wheel Dining option (tba) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Trevi Dining option (Trevi - Caesars) - ms
+ 9:00pm: High Roller Big Wheel (Linq) - ms
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms
+ 11:00pm: Flamboyance Drag Show (Flex) - sv

Flamboyance will certainly attract a number of our people but it does
not happen until later, so it will not affect the "prime time"
timeslots.
. . . . . . . . . .

Friday looks great!

+Friday, March 27:
+ 8:00am: Katie's Koffee Korner (Club Cappuccino - Flamingo) - ms
+ 10:00am: Fantastic Indoor Swapmeet (FISM) - ms
+ 12:00n: Lunch With Ginger (Fashion Show Mall Food Court) - ms
+ 2:00pm: High Tea (Four Seasons) - ms
+ 3:00pm: Nordstrom Makeovers, session 1 (Nordstrom's FSM) - ms
+ 3:45pm: Nordstrom Makeovers, session 2 (Nordstrom's FSM) - ms
+ 4:30pm: Nordstrom Makeovers, session 3 (Nordstrom's FSM) - ms
+ 5:00pm: Afternoon Social (Chayo at the Linq) - ms
+ 6:00pm: Happy Hour (tba) - ms
+ 7:00pm: Farewell Dinner (tba) - ms
+ 8:00pm: Farewell Celebration (tba) - ms
+ 10:00pm: Dancing at Paris (Paris - Cabaret Lounge) - ms

Very strong morning, afternoon, and evening activities.
. . . . . . . . . .

In summary:

Weak spot overall: Tuesday evening.

Spots that need some rounding out:

Sunday daytime.
Monday morning.
Wednesday morning.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity deadlines:

Bob writes:

Please remind me of the cutoff date for new activities?
. . . . . . . . . .

For activities which need any kind of sign-up, headcount, etc., the
deadline is Tuesday evening, February 24, which is about two weeks away.

We'll be testing out activity sign-up beginning with the ORG mailing
of Wednesday, February 25.

For activities which don't need any kind of sign-up (no sign-up, just
show up), the deadline will be Monday, March 16. The Final Attendee
Information will be rolled out that week.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sunday dining:

Linda writes:

I just had lunch at the Blue Ox and spoke to Ron Aronsohn. He said he
would be glad to have us again but, unfortunately, Sunday march 22 is
already booked. Monday and Tuesday are available, but of course Monday
is out and we already have 4 restaurant choices for Tuesday. Therefore,
I guess we'll just have to wait for next year on this one.

The four downtown restaurants you suggested seem to be all steak or
barbeque or other types of food that I can't eat, so I will do some
research to see if I can find something else.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

If you need some specific suggestions please let us know what type of
food you would enjoy and I'm sure there are options.

If you want something on west Sahara to pair with karaoke, Landry's,
Macaroni Grill, and any of various restaurants at Palace Station come to
mind immediately. I also remember a couple of Asian places and a
Chipotle out a bit farther west on Sahara.

Let us know if you need help finding an appropriate place.
