This is the DLV 2015 Organizational Mailing List (dlvorg_at_geekbabe.com)
Replies to this message will be forwarded to the DLVORG list and not

Getting closer:

Thanks to those who have volunteered to take on items to fill and round
out our schedule! :)
. . . . .

48 hour warning for "pulling the trigger" on Margaritaville! See item
below.
. . . . .

We've passed the two-month mark. From now until the end of February,
our job is to be sure that everything that requires a sign-up or a
headcount is solid as far as day, time, and price.

Our next big milestone is the roll-out of activity sign-up. This will
occur right around March 1. We would like to have activity sign-up ready
to test by the final Wednesday (the 25th) in February.

We'll do another detailed schedule review this next week.
. . . . .

It is VERY important that all volunteers remain informed and are
responsive regarding the goings-on. One thing that is extremely
important is that if you have reason to believe that something will
not be happening as planned, please let us know without delay!
. . . . .

As of Tuesday evening we have 113 signed up to attend. SO count is now
17. This means that about 18% of the primary attendees are bringing
their SO along, which is right about what we've been seeing the past few
years.
. . . . .

We did get our first cancellation. Something about instead having to go
to the UK to settle the score about ovine husbandry or something. :) :)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Final evening:

All, it's "defecate or abdicate" time (pardon the expression) for
Margaritaville.

If there are no objections raised within the next 48 hours (by Friday
morning) we'll be giving Cami the "go" signal to "pull the trigger" on
the final evening plans for Margaritaville as previously discussed.

Any objections, please speak now or forever ...
. . . . . . . . . . .

Katie writes:

I had previously thought that the German Beer garden / Tavern /
Restaurant on Paradise rd might be a good idea for the closer but on
reflection I think that might be a shade too noisy for this kind of
event. so Margaritaville sounds like a much more sensible venue for the
closer.

A lot of the attendees will be staying at the Flam anyway and finishing
off the week inside their own hotel will be convenient and it requires
no drinking and driving and no need for a cab fare to and from and the
added bonus of leaving when you are ready to leave or to go to your room
and return if need be also.

The ups outweigh the downs of which I cannot think of any. so I suspect
that MV would be the best choice for the closer. Unfortunately I can not
be there Friday evening as I leave for parts North that night but I know
you will drink to my good health..
. . . . .

Robyn writes:

The pictures of Margaritaville represent our own private area?

In order to participate in the closing event do we have to by the buffet
for 32 dollars.

I have been to Brass Lounge 4 times with other girls and I am not sure
what Linda's comment (healthwise) means. If you believe 1/2 yelp your in
big trouble.
. . . . . . . . . .

Beverly writes:

I vote for Margarettaville at Flamingo for the closing venue. It sounds
like it meets all of our criteria. And I have no problem with a buffet
meal that evening. And for those staying at Flamingo it will be very
handy.

If no one else volunteers to host the pre-event cocktails at 5:00 I will
take that on as well or help anyone with hosting it. This would be an
easy activity for someone new to step in.
. . . . .

Vanessa writes:

I do think that Margaritaville will be a great venue both because it is
main stream and connected to our main hotel. The price on the buffet is
not too far out of line, but I hope the buffet does not keep people
away. Lets go for it.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks to all for thoughts and comments on this. Big thanks go out again
to Cami for taking the lead on it, and to Beverly for the assistance.

To answer Robyn's concerns, we'll be sure that Cami lets the M'ville
folks know that not everyone present will be dining. This can be done
with a positive "spin" stating that they will be gaining additional bar
business instead of emphasizing that they will be losing some dining
customers.

Yes, that would be our private area, similar to what we usually have at
Bahama Breeze.

To answer Vanessa's concern, the topic of trying to go for a full menu
has been brought up off line. Cami will be giving it at least one shot,
explaining that they will definitely sell more meals that way. We will
see how things transpire.

Expanding Circles of Friends:

Katie writes:

Last year I sat at B/Breeze opener with Bev and we left 2 chairs open
for whoever wanted to sit with with us. 2 new girls approached at
different times and asked if they could share our table?B We said "Yes
of course you can" and they left a jacket over a chair. They both came
back a while later and left for a better table. *lol*

Not to worry, Hopefully they had a nice night out where they eventually
sat and we ended up having one new dining companion one whom we already
knew from previous years @ DLV. = 1 new friend! I try to socialize where
I can and talk to people who look like they need a friend, Maybe I am
not so good at this I have an accent you know! but I Do try and I know
that others do their best too!.

So here is something we might think of as a group.

Why not (and this is only for those who want to because Some like to
have their own personal friends around them on a once a year vacation
dinner.)

Why not leave 2 spaces open at your table which means that you will have
1 close friend with you and possibly 2 new ones to dine with?.

If everyone did this then no new and possibly shy person would be left
out and you will have the satisfaction knowing that you made someone
very happy too! Dining is not all that much of an intimate occasion
anyway, unless you really intend it to be and we must surely all know
that the social mingling after and before the opening evening meal is
where it is really at!

If we all thing on this even a little bit, I am sure we could have at
least have 50% of the tables being inclusive to newly out girls and to
new DLVers also.

As I said, Not everyone will want to do this and that's ok, I understand
completely why that is. but if only 50% of us did this at the very
beginning of the DLV week at Bahama Breeze then hopefully we will get no
responses in the negative after it is over about someones DLV vacation
experience.

It is only natural to want to spend time with our casual and good
friends when we do a DLV week because it only happens once a year. but
if we remember that we have a whole week to do that then a mere 3/4 hour
of dining is likely not going to harm that a lot. Just a thought. Maybe
it will float?
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Katie.

I like the idea of saving two seats at each table for new friends!

Although it would be very difficult to formalize or enforce this, I do
not think it would be out of line at all to very conspicuously announce
and request this as the masses are entering and selecting seats.

I also think it would be worthwhile to think about re-titling the
evening's activities to better reflect the intent of mixing and
welcoming those not in one's acquaintenceship. (Is that a word?)

"Welcome Celebration" is right in line with what we want, maybe
"Get-Acquainted Dinner" would be an appropriate title for the dining
portion of the program.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity Highlights:

Katie writes:

Hi Gang. Just a thought, Not trying to rush anyone into anything here
but Don't we need some more up front Activity Highlights up there for
the new people to DLV to peruse at their leisure before they commit to
an activity?

It is getting close to the Big event and 2 new attendees whom I invited
along for the ride this year have already asked me for info about
specific events and I would rather let the Hostesses explain their
individual activities under the Activity Highlights in MY DLV than do it
myself without their input and personal slant on the how to's and
suggested attire etc'. Just saying. etc'. *lol* Nudge, Nudge.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the reminder, Katie!

As of this time we have four (IIRC) Activity Highlights on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/mainforum/viewforum.php?f=2

For those who are involved with our activities, we invite you to please
post one as well. If you're unsure on how to do this, just send in the
text you want via e-mail and we will post it under your name.

Ricardo's:

Randi writes:

I'm willing to host Ricardo's mexican again. It seems to be a good
lower priced option. You pick the day and time.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Randi.

The greatest need for a lower-priced dining option is Tuesday, so that
is what we'll count on. Thanks again.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
FISM:

Beverly writes:

.. I will do {the} Friday morning Fabulous Indoor Swap Meet. I am happy
to host or co-host the activity. So don't be afraid to try hosting an
activity for the first time.

There may be a hike or another outdoor activity being added to Thursday
morning. I am kicking around a few ideas and will decide soon.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks, Beverly. It's on the schedule.

Please let us know about your "outdoorsy" plans as well.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Looking Glass:

Dionne writes:

I heard back from Stephanie of N2 the looking glass. Her new salon has
a zoning issue to deal with and it's a major pain. Her Open House for
Thursday afternoon is subject to cancellation. We might need to find
another event to move into its place.
. . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the heads-up.

The previous tenant in that space did have some issues and some backlash
from some of the other businesses in the area. She may be caught up in
some issues related to that.

Please let us know what transpires. Since commercial open house sessions
seldom need a sign-up, we're not in any crunch at this point in time.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dining on Sunday:

Linda writes:

> Whether or not we have a designated "safe" dining option on Sunday,

> option, as the two we have cannot easily handle the number we expect.

I will be glad to arrange for a 3rd dining option. Two possibilities come
to mind immediately:

(1) I have not ruled out the Blue Ox. I can contact Ron and ask if he is
willing to give it another shot. (Last year, I felt really bad when he
brought in extra staff to handle 40 people and only 15 showed up.)

(2) I've noticed that Ricardo's (Flamingo & Decatur) is not on the
schedule this year. Is there a good reason for this? If not, then
perhaps we can add it here.

I can probably check out both of these restaurants later this week, as
both are reasonably close to my home.
. . . . . . . . . .

Annie responds:

Thanks, Linda.

Randi did volunteer for Ricardo's during this list cycle and we put that
on Tuesday as that was our most critical need.

There's nothing that says we can't also have it on Sunday, but your
turnout will most likely be better with a unique venue.

We'll mark it as Linda's Choice on the schedule for now, pending your
decision of venue. Please let us know.

If there is a concern about no-shows, we do have a couple of new options
to help control that. I do think that minor illness definitely played a
role in the less than expected turnout last year.

Last year this was sign-up requested (not required). The rule of thumb,
as shown by attendance patterns over the years, is that sign-up
requested (not required) will typically give a larger turnout, but
sign-up required will give you a more accurate (but smaller) headcount.
Adding the requirement of a valid cell phone number will give you the
ability to verbally confirm if needed.
